Guest guest
I feel exhausted most of the time. Every once in a rare while I'll have a day that I feel almost " normal " and it reminds me of how much I missing feeling " good " . I've tried to figure out what makes the difference when I have a " good " day but I haven't been able to coordinate it with anything in specific. a From: jrrtt88fan <jrrtt88fan@...> Subject: tired hyperaldosteronism Date: Monday, August 25, 2008, 2:12 PM I was just wondering if anyone else who has this hyperaldosteronism has the problem of being exausted? Guest guest
Hi a What kind of treatment are you taking for the hyperaldosteronism? Did you have your adrenal gland out? Are you taking Spiro? I'm just trying to figure out if I will ever feel good again. I keep hoping I will after surgery (the 10th) and my 4 doctors say I will but I guess I'm a bit skeptical. Guest guest
I have bilateral adenomas, both of which are functional, so I'm not a candidate for surgery. I take spiro 200 mg per day which controls my BP and K+ well. I feel better than before my diagnosis when my K+ was low but still don't feel " good " , I'm tired most of the time. I assume you had AVS done? I guess you're aware that several members of our group have had one adrenal out only to have it the PA return after surgery. a From: Peggy s <jrrtt88fan@...> Subject: Re: tired hyperaldosteronism Date: Monday, August 25, 2008, 4:17 PM Hi a What kind of treatment are you taking for the hyperaldosteronism? Guest guest
Hello Peggy, Yes, I have the same experience. I can't predict how I might be from one day to the next. I have to make tentative arrangements to drive to see my mother 45minutes away, as I don't know whether on that day I will be so tired I have to lie down/sleep for most of the day. My legs get to feel so weak it's difficult to even get around the home and the yard. Guest guest
Carol, are you taking any meds or anything? How old are you? I just wish it would get better. It makes it hard to go to work. I have a desk job and find myself nodding off at times and my concentration is off... even after taking my potassium supplements. I'm taking 10 supplements a day and my blood potassium is barely 3.0. I'm also taking the maximum dosages of 4 b/p meds and my b/p is still high. I do have a tumor on my left adrenal gland...approximately an inch big. For several years I have had unexplained tiredness, weakness, memory " fuzzies " , my balance will be off, etc. I thought I was going crazy and my former dr kept telling me it was depression and drugging me for that and that it was age. Anyway, I am having it removed in 2 weeks. The tests show the right one is working. I'm a little nervous about the surgery but I have to try something. I really hate taking all the meds. I feel like a walking medicine cabinet. I'm only 41 years old and I can't imagine living like this for the rest of my life. I have been on the DASH diet for a few months and keeping my sodium intake under 2000 mg a day. Thank you for listening and letting me know that I'm not the only one feeling this way. Guest guest
Peggy, I'm 62, and have been plagued by these symptoms you describe " tiredness, weakness, memory 'fuzzies' etc " since 2004. I had an AVS in 2004 following a confirmed diagnosis of PA. As the results were inconclusive, I have been on medication since. The specialist I was seeing prescribed 12.5 mg spironolactone per day and amiloride (5 or 10 mgs). In 2006 I increased the spiro to 25mg. The only other medication has been Isoptin (240mg). In May this year I increased spiro to 50mg and then to 100mg. As potassium went up to 5.1, I reduced to 75mg. spiro for now. Recently diagnosed Vitamin D deficiency is being treated with supplements (2000IU per day). The specialist (cardiologist) has told me I have a " stiff heart " . He told me not to take more than 50mg spiro per day. My GP, whom I have been seeing since late last year has been wonderful - monitoring my increase in spiro, checking K levels and regularly checking heart (ECG ). She is trying to get me in to see Dr Stowasser, a leading researcher in PA. It's so good to have a GP who takes me seriously, and doesn't attribute everything to neurosis or lifestyle complications. (I am overweight, for one!) I keep sodium intake to a minimum, eat mostly vegetables, fruit and grains. I do hope surgery is successful for you, and gives you blessed relief. It's nice to know we're not alone in this, isn't it. Carol Peggy s wrote: > > Carol, are you taking any meds or anything? How old are you? I just > wish it would get better. Guest guest
Peggy, if your right adrenal is the over-producing one, I am assuming you've had AVS? Guest guest
Yes very difficult to say which problem is causing which symptoms but it seems pretty obvious to me that 22 days off thyroxine will eventaully have an effect, I will figure it out on my own, I havent felt too much of an difference not taking it, but wont go on about it here anymore. Guest guest
Hi I wholeheartedly agree that 22 days off thyroxine would have some affect, I cannot leave it off for 1 day, which was why Chuck in the first instance said we were two people that could not be compared. I dont have adrenal problems so I cannot comment on that at all. You dont have to figure it out on your own, there are plenty of people here that can maybe reassure you, all I was saying was that no-one can realistically tell you how you should feel or will feel and are not seeing Dr P this week? Guest guest
It was necessary that I stopped the thyroxine to treat my adrenals, I didnt stop when I took NAE and had no effect from taking that really, I wanted to do it right this time with the HC and I think I have, but any improvements, and there are some, are just so slow! I obviously needed the HC because the initial small starting dose had no effect on me whatsoever! Sorry If I sounded off with you, wasnt anything personal, just me getting frustrated. I am going to start my thyroxine again tomorrow night, at 50mcg, it will be 2 weeks since I started the HC on thursday and am going to give taking the thyroxine at night a try. I guess 2 yrs on thyroxine with adrenals like mine will have taken its toll, but I knew nothing of the adrenal connection back then--- On Tue, 2/9/08, chrischids <no_reply > Hi I wholeheartedly agree that 22 days off thyroxine would have some affect, I cannot leave it off for 1 day, which was why Chuck in the first instance said we were two people that could not be comparedChris> >> > Hello> > Feeling tired today, not a great a deal of energy and having to push > > myself, must be the 22 days lack of thyroxine i am feeling now. Guest guest
Tis a case of waiting and seeing . Poor love - you should be starting back on your thyroxine now, there is really no reason to wait any longer now that you are beginning to get back the symptoms of being hypothyroid. Nobody has to wait 6 weeks - it takes 6 weeks for the whole of the thyroxine to be absorbed, you should feel some effect fairly quickly. Guest guest
Was there any chat regarding taking Armour at night - with the additional T3/ T2/T1 etc? luv - Sheila -Hi From memory on the about.com forum instigated this experimentabout 4 years ago and amongst the research she did I am sure she foundthat thyroid hormone 'puts out' during the sleeping hours, so that bytaking our meds at night we are more in line with natural supply. (Iwelcome correction by our wonderful scientific minds)I take my meds at night, it takes about 2 weeks to settle in and Iwouldnt take my meds any other way. I got some great dreams at thestart and continue to have deep refreshing sleep. Nightime meds arethe only way to go for this little brown duck.I was nervous that it would keep me awake - but it doesn't at all.Freeman> .. Guest guest
Oh Wow - then I will give it a go. I often forget my afternoon dose until around 6.00p.m. so tomorrow, I will go without and take it at night. Do you take it when you go to bed or in the evening. I am almost always awake around 5.30a.m. and rather than lying in bed looking at the ceiling, I get up and work, but then I do get quite tired at night when I want to enjoy myself. I will definitely be giving this one a trial from tomorrow - and will get to do the same and see how we get on. I will report back. Is anybody else who takes Armour up to try this? Guest guest
I started bicarb about 10 days ago, the first week, yes, I was running to the loo - almost getting 'taken short' but this week, I seem to have got used to it because I am now having normal bowel action. However, I will stop it for a couple of weeks after four weeks. I don't have Candida Albicans either, at least, I am almost sure I don't, but I want to keep my inside clear of the possibility.
