Guest guest
ny,The ER is a temporary fix until you can see your regular doc.. he's the one that should be following you up here and finding out what the real issues are. Each time you go to the ER you see a different doc who has a different opinion and we've already discovered that ER in your area is not the best. You should be funneling most of this thru your Urologist and your GP. One doctor or two looking at all the pieces can solve the puzzle.. multiple trips to the ER won't. The 5 issues that you are dealing with are ongoing issues and really not an Emergency Room case. You feel like crap, this hasn't changed. The ER hasn't been able to help you in the past and that won't change either. What winds up happening when you are consistently showing up in the ER is they mark your file with two things... one is a narcotics seeker.. meaning they've decided you're just there for pain meds and the other is something they call a G.O.M.E.R. It's a phrase usually only known by the ER Staff. It means Get Out of My Emergency Room. When they start using that label (which happens after the 3rd or 4th visit in a fairly short time) you wind up getting next to no treatment from them. ER should ONLY be used when the illness seems life threatening or you can't possibly wait til your doctor's office opens up. The ER team is trained in Emergency Medicine as our the docs that are in there. They know how to solve critical issues that are presenting themselves. ER's specialize in trauma cases. Things like gunshots and stab wounds and heart attacks and strokes. They don't deal well with ongoing disease processes that are being treated from a private physician. I can promise you that you won't get the type of treatment you need from multiple trips to ER. If you don't already have a GP that you are working with, you need to find one for the interim while you are still there. Maybe your Urologist can recommend someone that he works with. I'm sure by now you are dealing with the Upper GI since that was scheduled for today. Hang in there and get some rest when you get home. That takes a lot out of you.Hugs, TeriOn Wed, Dec 29, 2010 at 6:14 AM, Barrett <barrjohnm@...> wrote: just back from the ER, told them about 5 conditions(stomach, migraines, body aches, liver pain, extreme fatigue), they only tested the stomach they did not tell me anything. Guest guest
Just shows you how much times have changed. It used to be that the people who worked in the ER were very sympathetic and caring.. Nurses in general USED to all have that quality. Somewhere it changed from people going into a profession because they wanted to help people to a money profession. Attitudes really changed with that. Nurses make big bucks.. they should have to earn their pay. Rudeness was never a quality deemed normal for a nurse. Now, not so much. Guest guest
You are not getting the best treatment by having different doctors see you every time. Many E.R.'s are now Shock/Trauma Units. That's what they specialize in... not normal disease processes. For that, you need a GP. There is your project for next week... find a temp GP that you can go to until you move back to NJ. Guest guest
Hi Teri,Yep times have changed for sure, when I broke up back in San Diego(well really Mexico)the people in the ER, and every doctor I saw was wonderful, they were really concerned about me. Now it is about the money, as far as I see. The nurses and receptionists are the worst, never seen such rude people.Yeah I need to find a GP, even at the free clinic, they usually send me to the ER so I end up there a lot. Also at the free clinic I NEVER see the same doctor!I think they got tired of me going to the ER, as I got a letter from HMSA Quest saying that I now have the medicare insurance again.I have a phone appointment on Tuesday. Also, on Wednesday I have a phone appointment with SSI.Hugs,ny You are not getting the best treatment by having different doctors see you every time. Many E.R.'s are now Shock/Trauma Units. Guest guest
yeah I could not agree more, it is always the first question, I need your insurance card! I feel doctors in general do not care, I mean if you get 10 minutes with them you are lucky, but then you get a bill for thousands! My Dad who worked for the government, the best insurance(so he says) you can have he still had to pay so much money for Dee's colon cancer treatment, I think he said it was a couple hundred thousand. Guest guest
To AllI am really blessed to have a very caring and capable GP; however, I know that a lot of people are not so fortunate. Around me here, we have several clinics for folks that either can't wait to see their Dr. or don't have one. It sure beats the ER. I swear, even in a small city like I live in - a person could die in the ER and not be noticed for hours.Gloria Hi Teri, thanks!Yeah maybe you are right the ER might be good for trauma issues like gun shots, etc. there are always cops binging in people there.I think that that I do need a general doctor myself too, I am getting tired of explaining everything over and over.thankshugs,nyOn Dec 29, 2010, at 10:27 AM, Theresa Gottlieb wrote: ny,The ER is a temporary fix until you can see your regular doc.. he's the one that should be following you up here and finding out what the real issues are. Guest guest
I am so happy to know that you are blessed with having a good medical staff, I did have this while getting my back fixed in San Diego, this is my first experience in 10 years, I feel a big change in general.Same here you could die in the ER if you needed help right away, my wait is usually about 6 hours or so.nyOn Dec 31, 2010, at 8:13 PM, Gloria wrote: To AllI am really blessed to have a very caring and capable GP; however, I know that a lot of people are not so fortunate.
