Guest guest
DonnaI am very grateful that you take such a view!! It truly is away past time that the stigmatization was blown out of the water, once and for all. However, I believe that the number of folks that don't know how they were infected, is actually over 50%.Yes, there are any number of folks that bought what they were told and believe that they either got the virus by a little ill fated foray in their late teens or early twenties. Or, the one about the inoculations that most of us were subjected to back in the 60's. I didn't buy either one for even as long as it took the Dr. to say all that. I called bullshit!! So, this is what I told him - If in fact, I had been infected when I was about 21 and stupidly did IV Drugs about 5 times, then I would not be here talking about it. I became an active alcoholic for 15 yrs. This conversation was taking place when I was 15 yrs sober! It didn't take much for him to actually agree with me about how I believe I contracted the virus.Recently, I was given some copies of letters that went between my Gastro, the Internist and my GP. They all very much agree with me on my facts. I truly believe that I received my gift in 1986 and it was as a result of an ear-piercing that my ex-partner had done on me, seconds after he had pierced his own ear. Of course, we had never heard of HepC; however, he was green with yellow eyes at the time. Then I remember that I got extremely sick not long after that and I mean as sick as I can ever recall. I lost 10 lbs at the time. So, as for the amount of damage that had been done on my liver - well, my prior drinking days must have caused damage, then I was sober all those years; but, unfortunately, I was also addicted to over the counter Tylenol. Therefore, I sure didn't give my liver much chance did I??However, today I just want to be the best advocate I can for anyone out there that is suffering this virus. It matters not how anyone was actually infected. Absolutely no one willing put themselves in harm's way, period.Just me prattling on again.Gloria Amen to what you said. I tell everyone that will listen that I have it. I have one tattoo that I've had for many years and that may or may not be how I got this virus. I don't care about how I got it I am just planning to get rid of it ASAP. I am a banker and have many customers. One is a doctor who specializes in nutrition and according to him 10% of hep patients just got it for no reason. I am thankful that because I donated blood to the Red Cross this was found. I've been married for 30 years, have 3 children and no one has it except me. Take care,
