Guest guest
SuziQ & DebbieNow that does sound very much like our system. One of our disabilities is a federal amount. I'm not even sure how they come up with a $$ figure. All I know is that I believe that I am getting more than I would if I just applied early to get my pension. The other one is a provincial plan. For those that qualify, it would bring one up to a certain ceiling that everyone is at. It's around $950/mo. Don't know how anyone can live on so little; but, it's better than nothing.I did not qualify for the provincial, because I was married. A lot of people that I know are on that system, including a couple of my brothers. I hadn't realized that they did not really understand that I definitely didn't qualify. Now that I am single again, I still don't qualify because my husband has to pay me a portion of his pension and that brings me right up to that ceiling anyway.Gloria Debbie, Couldn't find exact info on the web. You start by applying for SSDI and they will check work history and tell you if you qualify. It is more than a few $100 now and then and uses relatively recent rather than overall work history. If you are not eligible for SSDI, then there is a back-up program called SSI, which is also a disability program. SSI has restrictions on assets, like how much money in the bank, what you own (including car), etc. I have no clue what is available if the disabled person is not eligible for SSDI and is married. You can own a mansion, have a spouse and be eligible for SSDI because it is based on work history. SSI is based on need because you are disabled and have few or no resourses. Just apply and see what happens. SuziQ > > Suzi, I got to looking thru my first try at getting it..my copies. I found that social security statement you get in the mail periodically and it showed I earned $300.00 in 2002, so I just might be able to apply for the ssdi. Would be nice if I could and get it. > > Debbie
