Guest guest
TrudyThat would be so wonderful to see. Where is the camera when you need it?? Coming into the RV park tonight, I saw a doe with no problem. But then, I saw another movement and sure enough, there was a fawn. I go another couple of feet and there's another fawn! We always know that if you see one deer, there is another very close by. But this time, it was twins. Then, I went up to the Utility Building to pick up my laundry and as I rounded the corner to come back here, there was a buck sauntering along. They are so used to people here, that they are never in a hurry to hide from anyone. All through especially this valley, there are so many deer that they are a traffic hazard. Your eyes have to be quick at night, so that you see those beady little eyes there in the ditch.Hey, here's another one for the city folks!!! Here in the park, there are no street lights of course. I wonder if anyone knows how dark it really gets, when there are no street lights???Gloria Teri, here's a visual for you. I'm sitting out back on the steps, smoking. Guest guest
Racoon's are a whole lot more afraid of you than you are it. They just become a problem if they get cornered. Where I was living for awhile on the mainland, we started to feed a coon that had been used to the garbage the previous tenants left on the deck. Next thing we knew, she was bringing the whole family by for dinner. She would actually come right up to the slider if there was no porridge put down. Then, my neighbours little dog, when I lived in town, was on a real barking binge one evening. Of course, the neighbour was well in her 80's and sure couldn't catch up with the little guy. So, I went through the gate and down to their gate. Just about then, I heard what she was barking at. Sure enough, out came a coon from our shed!! I was just glad that my cats didn't spy the movement and neither did my little dog. But, the neighbours dog didn't see it leave and it took awhile to get her calmed down.Gloria I had that happen with a racoon over the summer! Thought it was a cute little sucker... Guest guest
We have some pretty big raccoons and skunks here too! HUGE suckers... and there is a protected wooded area behind us so we have coyotes and deer as well. The coyotes freaked me out at first cause I was worried about my dog... until I realized the size difference between them and her. One came out of the woods into our yard and Sheba took on this crazy attack position... then the little guy went back in the woods and came back out with 3 of his friends... I wasn't letting her stick around for that confrontation but I'm sure she'd have handled it. She is 3 times the size of those things.... but I got her inside pretty quickly anyways... I know they attack in numbers and can take a deer down.. but a deer doesn't fight back like my dog would. I just don't want her to get hurt. Guest guest
It gets total black out dark in rural Oklahome. The nearest light or even a porch light can be many many miles away. We have two large does and a yearling that come right up to house to eat the acorns. But it's always after dark every night. We have a six point buck that came down along the pond to graze. Hubby was standing on the dock fly fishing, maybe 30 yards from buck. Hubby just continued fishing and the buck kept grazing! Hubby got a big 9 point on opening day.there is a lot, alot, lot of deer meat, burgers and steaks from him. And I don't know how to cook it( I don't wanna eat it). Dunno if y'all saw the pic on FaceBook of my six yr old grandson. He went duck hunting with Granpa. In the pic he is holding two ducks as big as him.( grandpa got the ducks).http://facebook.com/people/andTrudy-Kinsey/1340460877 " "A well- behaved woman never made history"...Mae Westhttp://oktravels.wordpress.com http://allrecipes.com/cook/TrudyK/profile.aspx On Dec 2, 2010, at 11:47 PM, Gloria <gadamscan@...> wrote: TrudyThat would be so wonderful to see. Guest guest
Even my mini standard poodle would try to take on a coyote!! Fortunately, I don't think we have coyotes on the island. Guest guest
TrudyDeer meat is very good!! I can't say that I would even care to try a whole lot of wild game; but, deer is particularly good. One time, an aunt of mine canned a whole bunch and I was given one of them. Best stew I ever did make, if you don't mind my saying so. It gets total black out dark in rural Oklahome. The nearest light or even a porch light can be many many miles away.
