Hello

Wow

You are doing great. I had my surgery on April 24, 2006. I have

had 4 adjustments and ready to schedule another. I have lost 101

pounds and still at a large weight of 290. I can tell through my

clothes I have lost weight. I was in 28 and now a 22/24, When I

look in the mirror and see myself though I do not see a lot of

weight gone. I am 42 and overweight my entire life and still look

at myself as just as big as ever.

I like you vomit alot and my dr. said the same as yours. It is my

eating. I am just eating to much and should only be eating 2 or 3

bites. I stil find myself putting the same amount of food on my

plate but I can not eat it all. Usually I do throw up cause I am

eating to much. I do not ever taste bile, just the food and slimy

stuff. I have also been sick while driving. My son absolutely will

not let me eat in car because I do over eat and get sick. Your Dr.

is a far drive. How many adjustments have you been able to get. I

had my surgery and did not get my first fill for almost 8 weeks due

to the dr. had no appointments available. Oh well. I seen we had a

lot in commomn and wanted to tell you what a terrific job you have

done so far. Good luck.

Take care

Hello

Just wanted to say I have lost 101 pounds and had surgery April 24,

2006. My Dr. told me I am right on target. I did start at a large

weight of 390. That is part of why the weight came off so fast. I

am still losing fast. I have lost 24 pounds since Sept 27, 2006

when I had my last fill. I do throw up a lot and I know it is from

overeating. My brain has to catch up to where my stomach and

banding tool needs are. I am 42 and my thinking will change but it

will not happen overnight. It took me 42 years to get where I am

and it is not going to change in 6 months. I know I should not put

so much food on my plate and I always ate when depressed and used

food as a crutch. Sometimes I find myself still using food and

eating when not hundry and overeating. I have to change these

habits. The band is a tool and it is to help me lose the weight but

I have to change my thinking as well. I am seeing a counselor now

and hope that helps. I have to learn to not use food when sad,

unhappy etc.

Oh well-just wanted to comment that I have lost a large amount of

weight in a short time, but my Dr said I am healthier now than I

have been in years. So I guess I am doing something kind of right.

Losing weight and changing eating habits are hard and it will take

time. I just can not do it as fast as some can. We are all

different and our bodies are all different as well. Some will lose

faster, slower, vomit, not vomit, have band problems etc. Not all

will succeeed, I hope all do though

leigh ann

>

> I have to agree. It isnt normal to throw up every meal. You are

eating too fast..not chewing enough and taking too big bites. Its

also not normal to lose an average of 5 lbs a week without bypass

surgery. I hope that you are taking a lot of vitamins and

supplements for your nutrition because I cant imagine how you can be

getting enough nutrition in if you are throwing up everything.

Think about it..its basically the same as being bulimic and if it

continues for too long you will damage your body the same as an

anorexic or bulimic does. From what you said you are losing weight

through starvation and that is not what the band is designed for.

Hi Dan

I find that I find help in your comments and was curious about

something. This is not a pleasent subject but here goes anyway, I

only have one or sometimes two bowel movements a week. Is this

normal or should I speak with my dr. about it. I do not want to go

to my dr. with it if it is something normal going on. I know if you

do not put as much in as much will not come out and that is what I

figured is going on but I am not sure that is it. I look forward to

your reply as you seem to know alot about the band and what we go

through. I have only been banded since April of this year and have

lost 100 pounds, I still have a long way to go. I started at 390

and am now 290. I would like to get to 160 or 170. Heck I have

been so big my entire life I would be tickled to get to 200 pounds.

Do most people meet there goal within 2 years

Hey, as the bumper stickers say, S..T HAPPENS. To all of us. I don't

find your bowel patterns unusual. You're eating MUCH less food, and

therefore your system doesn't have nearly as much to handle. As long

as you're not becoming real constipated, having pain with the

movements, etc, I don't think it is a problem.

I know there are people who think " if you don't have a bowel movement

every day you must be sick and you must do something to make that

happen " . Nonsense.

You got it. In my experience I've become a bit more frequent (maybe

every other day) over the years, which may be from continuing change

in eating habits, some from more exercise, some perhaps from

everything in there shrinking.

That's great. The larger you are, the faster you lose. I will say

that having started at 355 a few months before banding that I know

I'll never get to a " normal " BMI of 25, even if I had more plastic

surgery, which I don't plan to do. For me that would be 174 (height of

5-10). My goal is 190 instead of the 199 shown below, but I'll be

VERY happy to get into, and stay in, " the ones " .

When you get down even lower you'll find ever more loose flab, and

that will not go away without surgery. It is just like a balloon that

has been stretched and will never go back to the original size. And,

fat cells never go away, they just shrink, so are still there.

And...keep on keeping on...and don't set yourself too low of a goal.

My first goal was 222, a nice 101 below the 323 at which I was banded.

But my goal keeps moving down.

All too many women think they can get " back to what I was at my junior

prom " (assuming they weren't overweight then). Not likely to happen,

at least without a bunch of plastic surgery, etc.

For those people who are too " dainty " to say barf, puke, vomit, heave,

have a technicolor yawn, worship the porcelain god, etc, etc, they

invented " productive burp " . Well, mine have never been " burps " .

They've been barfing. Yes, from above the stoma, but still barfing.

By definition, vomit is the " forceful expulsion of the contents of

one's stomach through the mouth " . And if you're doing it, it is all

coming from your stomach. Nothing coming up from below the stoma as

there isn't anything there.

So, for the dainty, you can say " pb " all you want....but why not use

the right word for things?

PB means productive burp as you will know the vomiting we experience is

differnt from the vomiting that we have say when we was ill. Its more of a

rebound rather than vomit the food does not go down and you can feel it and

like its been said the body tries to dislodge it and the salivia builds up

and just add's to the weight allready in your throat when it becomes too

much and refluxes out. I think the terminoligy will be differnt in the UK

than it is in the US.

See what i mean about terminoligy and national meanings because here

in the UK " dainty " means small like demure. We do

say " belch " " burp " " puke " " throw ya guts up " . and a whole load of

other stuff and we have some right faul terms also i was how ever

under the impression this was a none swearing sight.

Let's get this streght on the whole the experience is universally

known as a PB no matter how ya wanna dress it up. throwing ya ring

up or PB. Its not so much a vomit more and its not really a burp is

it!!!.

Its not nice and like you say some experience it more than others

and no matter how much you chew sometimes it gets stuck. Fiberus

food can be dodgy and stodgy food can also be well dodgy and you may

experience more PBing with fiberus and stodgy foods than you will

with other texture food.

lol dainty crist iv never been referred to as dainty in my intire

life.

AMEN DAN!!!

I never could understand why people came up with the darn PB anyway. It makes

it seem okay to some people. We all should strive not to throw up.

Well, " demure " doesn't mean small:

coy: affectedly modest or shy especially in a playful or provocative way

Yeah, no swearing if at all possible. Don't want to offend anyone's

dainty or tender or demure or shy or whatever else.

Oh, nonsense. It is vomit by definition, no matter how you want to

dress it up. It sure isn't a burp, as note definition of burping:

Burping, also known as belching, ructus or eructation, is the release

of gas from the digestive tract (mainly esophagus and stomach) through

the mouth. It is often audible.

Note that burp means bringing up GAS, not anything else.

Right. What some can eat, others can't, and vice versa.

And for me there are foods I don't think of trying, like clams and

oysters, both of which I love.

I've gotten in trouble with big bites, which I still struggle with.

One of the things that is problematic for me, especially with big

bites, is jerky. I regularly eat turkey jerky. But I'm also careful

to spit out any piece that doesn't chew up to nothing, as it'll get

stuck. You know, gristle, tough stuff. But if I have a big bite I may

forget to feel every teeny bit of it in my mouth, or think that I'm

only swallowing only the " ok stuff " and let a piece that isn't ok go

down.

Yes, that slows down. Glad it helped, and keep letting us know how it

Well, universal means everywhere, and it isn't universal. Tell me a

doctor who uses the term. They may know it, but they don't say it.

They know lots of words for " stool " (meaning what comes out of your

anus), but they won't use them, at least with patients.

No one is telling you what you can and can't say. We're simply

striving for using the correct terms.

As the owner of this group I read ALL of the posts.

And for one who is into using proper terms and not being nasty, you

need to clean it up in the above sentence.

There are two meanings of " twat " , both listed below.

fathead: a man who is a stupid incompetent fool

May be what " twat " means to you, but over here it means:

cunt: obscene terms for female genitals

In fact, to most women I know, even if they will say " the F word " ,

they won't even think of using " the C word " , so clean it up.

And chill out.

Yeah means that here also call it a vagina, fanny, penny, mary,

front bum, lady gargen, minge, toot,

Who are you to tell me what words i can and cant use, see i told ya

i wasn't " demure " didn't and lady like well who's messuring what

makes one woman a lady and another not. So if you dont say cunt that

makes you a Lady when cunt is actually a very english word! Like

Bastard in fact now i come to think of every English word is well

mmmmm English i mean its iron that you say im too dainty to say burp

or beltch so i said PB telling me i am using the wrong word and i

should just say it how it is when the very word you used to discribe

some one who turns to plesantarys is completely out of context while

the PB i was using did mean what we all knew it to mean you how ever

said dainty in a sence to mean polite when it actually means small.

Do you get irony! i find that so funny your having ago at me for not

using the right words while your soooooo guilty of it your self

<<I had my banding on June 22, 2006. I have lost 92 lbs. I'm very

happy, but I am still throwing up very often. One day I'm fine and

the next I will throw up the same thing that I ate yesterday. Another

day, may throw up every meal that I eat. Sometimes, i just spit up

slimey stuff, but there are times when I throw it all up.>>

Wow, great weight loss but that's a lot of weight off in a short period

of time for a bandster but you must really be feeling full of _iss and

vinegar now huh? Please take it easy with what and how you're eating

though, you shouldn't be slimming or throwing up. I've been lucky not

to have very many " toss ups " .

One thing I've learned is that you've got to pick good cuts of meat and

add sauce if it's dry, especially poultry. I temporarily forgot the

thing about eating only good cuts of meat last week when my hubby

brought home Chinese food. I rarely eat Chinese since being banded but

that beef chow mien smelled SO good! Within the first bite I knew I

could not properly grind the meat to safely pass through the stoma so I

spit it into my napkin and decided to pick my battle elsewhere;-) I

only had a small amount on my plate so I picked through the meat and

gave it to my dogs, took 2 bites of the noodles and was happy to just

satisfy the craving;-) Some folks can't eat pasta, rice or potatoes so

if you feel that you just have to satisfy that craving, take 1 or 2

small bites and wait several minutes to see how it's going to land;-)

First sign of distress..bail out and don't eat anymore of it.

There are so many good things we can eat without slimming but you might

also be a bit too tight. If in doubt, go to Dallas and see your doc or

find one that takes care of band fills around Tulsa area. FYI - if

you feel a piece of food is stuck or you're getting that ick feeling,

try making a hot cup of sweetened mint tea and slowly sip it. Once

that ick feeling passes (usually quickly with the tea) then just cover

your meal up and put it in the refrigerator for another time. I've

ticked off my stoma a couple of times by insisting I keep eating...not

a good idea because then it swelled up and I quickly found out who the

boss was;-)

Boy Dan I sure hope you are sending us this post to show us the reasons why you

aren't going to allow her to be member any longer.

She has gone off the deep end and really isn't helping anyone on this board do

you think?

Just my opinion... :-)

makes one woman a lady and another not.

Yes, I'm sure we all know many terms for female genitalia. However, it isn't

appropriate to list them all here.

Who am I? I'm the group owner/moderator.

And your gratuitious and inappropriate use of language that almost everybody on

here would consider vulgar has earned you moderated status.

At the moment you're the only person on here who is moderated, other than people

who've not posted yet.

Sorry if you don't like it, but we try to have some standards of civility, since

that is what the majority desires.

That post with all the vulgar terms for female body parts, etc, was sent BEFORE

I changed her status to MODERATED. When you join, you're moderated

automatically. As long as your first is relevant, clean, decent, etc, then I

change you to unmoderated at that point. And that's what was done.

But now that the line of decency and appropriateness has been crossed, I changed

the status to moderated. No reason to kick her off at present, as maybe she'll

settle down and also learn from the posts of others. And of course if posts

become more appropriate in content and language, they'll get approved.

Otherwise they'll get rejected or edited (if I can simply do some VERY simple

editing). It is VERY rare for me to edit anything, and as all the rest know,

your posts go straight through.

This is the first time in several years, and of managing over twenty groups,

that I've changed anyone to moderated status.

There is absolutely nothing that anyone can say, any language they can use, that

will offend me. I've heard it all, and have said much of it, though not in

public venues like this. But, as your grandma probalby taught you, " there's a

time and place for everything " , and this isn't the place for the kind of

behavior we've had.

I think you have spent way too much time on the puke issue! I was told that pb

stood for productive burp.

I think of vomitting as more a projectile upchuck of liquid/food. The main

object is not to do either.no matter what you call it!!!

Thank you for bringing up something that hasn't even been discussed in weeks and

weeks.

Of course now that you've given us another opportunity to discuss the stupid

term PB in stead of the proper term of vomit, then that's ok with me.

Go back to the old messages and see the definitions from assorted medical

websites.

Pat, both a vomit and a pb put a lot of pressure at the exact spot

where the band is sutured - the junction of the stomach and

esophagus. Both have casued slips, and both must be avoided. i can

name 30 people who have had slips, some requiring band removal when

they had not had ONE SINGLE vomit - only pb's.

But you're sure right that we really have to avoid both - and FIX the

problem causing them!! all this just encourages the esophagus

problems with motility that i just addressed in another post.

Get your fill DECREASED OR REMOVED. If it looks like coffee grounds it is

blood....and that obviously is NOT good.

YOU ARE TOO TIGHT. How do I know? Been there, done that.

Get to your doctor NOW before you do more damage.

And alcohol, coffee, and all sorts of other things add irritation to your

system. To say nothing of the calories in alcohol....

CALL THE DOC RIGHT NOW. Please.

Throwing Up

> I haven't been active on this site, but now have a question for the group as

this condition seems to be getting worse. I'm almost at my goal weight, but

very restricted (which is good). The problem is that I have a lot of mucus and

saliva build-up in the pouch, and many times it burns and I throw up. Sometimes

this lasts for an entire day, and it look like coffee grounds when it comes up.

Unfortunately, the only thing I've found that dissolves this substance is

alcohol which I drink at night. I've tried hot liquids, but that usually

doesn't help.

>

> Does anyone have a suggestion other than having my fill removed? I don't

want to start over with trying to find a " sweet spot, " and I know Dr. Spiegel's

office will insist on removing all the fill rather than just a couple of points.

Any help?
