Something else I found out this weekend..  WEIGHT has absolutely no bearing in Hep C treatment.  It is a MYTH.  You have no better or worse of a chance for results if you are at a target weight, underweight or morbidly obese.  It's something the gastro's use as an excuse to avoid treating patients.  How's that for info?

Hi Ray

I havent done HCV TX yet, nor am I a Medical Professional, but I do a lot of research for everybody.

You say that you have Diabetes Type 1, so I assume that your injecting insulin.

To my understanding, this means that your pancreas is no longer producing insulin, thus you must inject.

Now, here is sort of the delema for me.

Getting Diabetes Type 2 is pretty common with the HCV treatment for some people.

http://hepatitis-central.com/hcv/diabetes/hcv/infection.html

This form of diabetes usually begins with insulin resistance, [not failure to produce], a condition in which fat, muscle, and liver cells do not use insulin properly.

Since you already have Type 1, this may or may not be an issue.

I would assume that your doctor will be keeping a close eye on you during treatment though, and adjusting your meds as needed.

You will also need to be aware of any reactions or changes in how you feel during treatment, and stay in contact with your doctor [which I assume you are already doing.]

As far as the HCV treatment itself goes, everybody reacts to the meds differently.

At this point, no one can predict what side effects you will experiance, or what outcome you may have.

With the Interferon/Ribavirin combo only 50% or less people actually clear the HCV.

Next year though, they should be adding a Protease Viral Inhibitor to the combo, attacking the HCV 3 ways.

This 3-D TX increases responce rates, and could affect TX time [right now it is 24-48 weeks depending on genotype].

If you use the 3-D TX, there is a very good chance of your clearing the HCV.

Now here is where I start getting lost.

Im not real sure what effects the HCV TX meds will have in combo with the Diabetes meds.

This is a subject that you need to talk to your doctor about in-depth, if they will give you the time, for your own understanding.

Since they are allowing you to treat, I am assuming thay will be keeping a very close eye on you, [as I have stated], but it is nice when the doctors take the time to educate us.

Ray, it is known that age, and health do matter when it comes to HCV TX.

[This really is just common sence.]

Younger and healthier is better, but that does not indicate that you will or will not have the same results as anybody else.

Older and less healthy people can and do treat the HCV all the time.

Weight also affects HCV TX outcome.

My suggestions are that if your on a weight loss program, that you continue it.

Continue eating a proper diet, and getting enough exercise and rest.

If aspirin is part of your daily medical protocal for the Diabetes, you may want to discuss this with your Liver-doc, because aspirin is not real good for folks with HCV, or doing HCV TX.

Ray, no one can predict how you will respond to HCV TX, especially in combo with the Diabetes protocal.

But it is worth a try, so please trust your doctors.

Do not hesitate to ask them questions.

Adhere to their advice, because they will be your best resource to better your health.

I hope some of this info helps.

We will be right here to stand beside you all the way, and try to help with questions and support.

Remember, NEVER give up, because there is always hope.
