As far as what type of engineering field he could go into, there are many. Like mechanical engineering for one, but there are a lot of electrical applications that don't require working with equipment that emits high levels of RF power as well. Heck, he is just a little guy and is more interested in fitting in with his friends than thinking too much about his future career, I would imagine. To answer your question, he could go into most any engineering discipline that interests him. He will just have to learn, like me, what equipment to stay away from. Sounds like you have your hands full. He may have to learn some of his limitations the hard way like we all have to unfortunately. Its real hard for me to see young kids with the weight of the world on there shoulders. It is not fair. But he will work things out over time and make the best of it like the rest of us. My grandson who lives with us has an ICD due to long qt syndrome therefore is limited in activities etc. He has also been impressed with all the knowledge my husband has and was wondering which engineering field he might be able to work in. He is a very smart boy (very seldom off the honor roll) but is struggling due to his ICD and feeling so different and inadequate in many ways. Learning how to play guitar is helping a little but he refuses to acknowledge his limitations (safety rules) and puts his health at risk many times. Has to be Mr. Macho I guess!! Until Gramma gets hold of him that is (smilin) Anyway..... Any suggestions on which field or a 13 yr old guy that feels so different that he is keeping icd secret from friends so he can fit in (even to the point of playing body which is slugging each other in the chest till someone passes out or says I quit) His Dr andd EP were shocked by that one especially since his leads aren the typical and has array of wires across his chest instead of the one going down. oh well this gramma is gonna go grey quick!!! My son 12 with AS, also has Kallmann’s Syndrome. Due to the combo of the AS and KS her was referred to the national Birth Defects Center for extensive genetics testing. He had virtually all the markers for Fragile X but did not have it. They also tested for PW and just about everything else you can think of. He has the almond shaped eyes, the prominent ears, small hands and feet. After all the testing he still only had AS & KS. Being 4 years old, she DOES have her opinions, and she does not like the shots, so we are hoping that the pump will go well with her. We are just optimistic that the pump will work and that she will adjust to it easily. She did get sick of it for a spell last year and went back to shots.then after a while got sick of all the shots and is back happily on the pump. Guest guest Posted November 29, 2008 Report Share Posted November 29, 2008 what type of photography do u photograph. my son is a teacher a a local h.s. phys. ed and health, coaches varsity baseball there actually was baseball coach of the year in our county his wife is a neo natal r.n. kids are 21 and 19 now he also teachers driver's ed. coaches freshmen basketball too. very busy family. well anyway he and his wife (who really loved photography for years) started a company called SPORTSHOTS and they have contacts now with diff. sports teams and do ind. and team shots they have an internet site and the parents go there to order pics. they do wrestling, baseball basketball etc.. i never thought i would see the day when my son was a photographer. it is something they do together and really enjoy spending the time together. We have gone to the mountains and taken photos there, and also to the ocean. I have considered doing the sports, but I don't know if I am really into that. Guest guest Posted December 5, 2008 Report Share Posted December 5, 2008 Debbie, I don't know about Lyrica and knee pain, but according to my surgeon, the back pain-and I had a fusion from L5-S1, is separate from my knee pain. I had knee pain, and eventually both replaced, long before my back problems, due to my job, and I was overweight, and had arthritis. I'm no longer overweight, but still have severe knee pain in my last knee that was replaced, am waiting till after the holidays to go to an ortho again, the one I had no longer takes anything to do with Medicare. My husband is on Lyrica and has been, he's very overweight, but has no knee pain, just back. Don't know if any of this helps, but have you been to an orthopaedic dr. yet to check out the pain? I eventually had bone rubbing against bone, they started out with injections, then did something a series of using Synvisc to kind of add cushioning in between, then he did an arthroscopy to clean it out, then came the replacement. Obviously this took place over a bit of time, but one of my knees has lasted over 10 years with no problems. The same dr. did both, just don't know why the second one didn't do as well. And I had to quit work shortly after it was done because I had my back problems, so I didn't really put any pressure on the second knee from my job. They say knee replacements last 10-15 years depending on life style, job, etc. I just plain hurt with this knee, and it's affecting the way I walk, and my hips. And my sleep! This is probably more information than you asked for, I apologise, but thanks for letting me vent.
