Hey Tammy I. -

I also have Kaiser and had the exact reply from them (the bariatrics

team) that it appears you received. At 5'3 " and 275 lbs. I WAS TOO

HEALTHY!!! I did not have any " co-morbids " and so, becasue WLS has

gained such " popularity " in the SF Bay Area, they were picking and

choosing the candidates and I wasn't one of them. Of course, they

NEVER told me they only perform RNY and not LapBand so I never would

have gone with them anyway.

When I went to see my primary care Dr. after my surgery he was VERY

interested in hearing all about my experience in Mexico, looking

over my xrays and checking out my incisions, but - would do nothing

to help me convince the bariatrics department to offer fills even

though it turns out they have a qualified Lapband surgeon on staff.

They perform " fee for services " surguries for the RNY patients who

need major skin removal (aka: body lifts) but don't have the

EQUIPMENT to do a fill! Lord knows they couldn't possibly have any

needles or saline in a hospital!

As you can see, this was a real sore spot with me especially after

being bombarded with all the Kaiser Cares Commercials on the radio &

TV.

With all that said and done, I FEEL & LOOK GREAT! My weight loss is

slow but steady. I've lost more inches than I can believe and have

gone from a tight size 24 to a lose size 18! Size 16 is in the near

future!!!

I used to have Kaiser recently my husband took a job with a company

that didn't offer benefits and Kaiser denied me! Our entire family had

insured with them for 4 years and we had only used them for annual

checkups and I used them for antidepressents(Spelling) - (so you figure

they made about $8000 profit a year off us) then they sent me a denial

letter because I was outside the height/weight guidelines. I hate

insurance companies! We really need to do something in this country.

I'll get off the bandwagon now...sorry.

Anyway, yes I am paying my own way and I can't wait to be a loser then

Kaiser can kiss my " skinny behind! " LOL

figured I deserved it!! So now I have a loan with my credit union and I

am not hungry!!! It was so worth it!

Hi Everyone, I was turned down also by my insurance because I wasn"t on a failed diet for a year! In other words Because I lost 20 lbs. in a year I"m not elgible for the operation .I weight 320 pounds and I'm on oxygen 24-7 and I have diabetes sleep aphnea and I have arthritis, my knees need to be replaced because of it. All this is due to my weight. My primary Dr. says I need it and the surgeon says I need it but my insurance just does what they want. I also have CHF and COPD all this is due to my weight. Hello Tammy,

My name is netta and I also have Kaiser Insurance. I did not

even bother trying to contact them about surgery because I knew what

the answer would be. I was banded on Feb. 8, 2006. I went to my

Primary Doctor and she did not even Know about the Lapband surgery.

I was flabergasted. She did not even know what a fill was. I was

wondering what was she learning in her contiuing ed classes. I am a

retired disabled nurse now but you should always know what is going

on in the medical field, if this is what you do for your job.

Anyway, I don't fill that the dr.s at kaiser really care about you.

They are just there to collect a check, well atleast here in

Atlanta, GA.

After I was satisfied with my research I went on and paid for the

surgery with Dr. A. and boy am I really pleased. I am down 24

pounds and I am training for a marathon with the American Stroke

Association. I am in a regular size 16 now, from a women size 18

and stretch jeans, pants and skirts.

You will be happy with your decision. netta

I wonder if these insurance companies think that we have never been on a diet before?? We go on these diets and lose weight and then we have to eventually go off and gain all the weight back and then some. I was on jenny craig ever since they opened the doors but I went on it again in 2001 because I was getting married and I went from 245 pounds down to 167 pounds and yes it was great but I had to eventually start eating "normal food" and there she went! I am again at 240 pounds and have been on jenny craig since 2001 about more times but it just isnt working anymore for me. I finally realized that instead of throwing more money out the window I needed to do something else. I have Kaiser and before they will even consider surgery (i am not a good candidate hhmmm.....5'2" 240 pounds bmi ithink was 43.5) I had to go through a nutrition class, then a seminar to put me on either Optifast (been there done that) or Meridia (been there done that too) The whole thing is ridiculous! I

have spent thousands and thousands of dollars on diets, shakes, and diet pills by the way I was getting any kind of diet pill I wanted off the internet. I no longer had to go to a dr for a prescription just ordered online! Nothing worked anymore. Anyways, I am feeling a little talkative right now so I will shut up!! I am Thankful for finding this site and all you wonderful people. I cant wait to meet Dr A and Nina and the rest of the staff!! I didnt know that Virginia. Well wait a minute now that I think about it I remember hearing that the employees have share in Kaiser. Of course, they NEVER told me they only perform RNY and not LapBand so I never would have gone with them anyway. When I went to see my primary care Dr. after my surgery he was VERY interested in hearing all about my experience in Mexico, looking over my xrays and checking out my incisions, but - would do nothing to help me convince the bariatrics department to offer fills even though it turns out they have a qualified Lapband surgeon on staff. They perform "fee for services" surguries for the RNY patients who need major skin removal (aka: body lifts) but don't have the EQUIPMENT to do a fill! Lord

knows they couldn't possibly have any needles or saline in a hospital! As you can see, this was a real sore spot with me especially after being bombarded with all the Kaiser Cares Commercials on the radio & TV.With all that said and done, I FEEL & LOOK GREAT! My weight loss is slow but steady. I've lost more inches than I can believe and have gone from a tight size 24 to a lose size 18! Size 16 is in the near future!!!Liz > >> > Well everything went exactly like you all said it would!!! I am going > > go adopt Yolanda, what a lady! Bright, outgoing and so loving and > > kind!! Hey etta,

My name is Vivian and I live in the Atlanta area. Do you think you

could give me a call (678-838-0202) sometime to talk about your

experience. My husband and my mother are very concerned (especially

since I will be going alone). I would really appreciate any insight you

could pass along.

Thanks!

Vivian

Re: I'm back!!!

You will be happy with your decision. netta

Hi All, Another horror story about Kaiser! I took my daughter to TJ to have breast augmentation and a chin implant. When it came time to take the stitches out (seemingly easy procedure right?) well first we had to see her primary doctor who attempted to remove the stitches. She then decided we should see a plastics dr . The plastic surgery doc first yelled about going to Mexico and then about the attempted stitch removal.............which we then informed her was the Kaiser Doc who did it!!!! She then removed the stitches with no problem! However she was amazed by the chin implant, which she had never seen!!!!!!!! • 4 years later...

Hi GangJust want to let you all know - I'm back!!I had to do some meditation about letting go of my marriage once and for all. Also, to get to a spot that I was not sooo resentful about him, his kids and one of his sisters. Well, I got there!! So now, hopefully, that is the last you will hear from me on that subject. However, I went in for an Ultra Sound a week ago Friday. I am supposed to have them every six months now, in order to see if any more tumours start up in my liver. Well, I received the call from my Dr's office on Wednesday, that she wanted to see me. No matter how much I didn't want to think what I was thinking - I knew! Turns out that, yes indeed, I have another tumour that is just appearing. Of course, the next step is a CT Scan. Now, this one is still very small and could be in a place that an ablation can be performed. Not like the two that I had major surgery for in April. At any rate, I didn't give in doing two HepC treatments, nor did I give in when I went through a liver resection, nor did I give in when my husband of over 20 yrs wanted out, so I'm not giving in for this little baby thing either! My Higher Power is just seeing fit, that I don't become complacent about my health issues perhaps. So, here goes a stronger need to see, touch and smell all the really important things in life!!! My glass is definitely not half empty, it's half full.Today, a woman that I hadn't met yet, came by to talk to me about living in an RV. During our in introductory phase, I learned that she also has HepC. It honestly felt like that Higher Power definitely had a purpose for us to meet and it was more than me introducing her to a great way to live. So, now it's just on with a happy and joyous future for me again.Gloria

strength but i can give it to my higher power & he will carry me through if it

is his will...I go back to doc on monday to review some tests & possible

sonogram myself.

Oh marieYou have no idea how much I admire your courage, in the face of such awful odds. Just keep doing what you are doing and don't give in to any of the negative thoughts. Remember, you are battling a dragon that breaths fire and is positive that he's going to win the battle. Just don't let him!!I'll definitely be talking to the Higher Power and asking him if it might be his will, to go a little softer on you now. But, I have absolutely no doubt that you have what it takes to get through this big fight.Luv Gloria
