Guest guest
: Thanks for your post. For myself, I am _always_ suspicious when someone graciously offers to make me (additional)(!!!) hundreds of thousands of dollars just by giving them a place to put their equipment and they'll "take care of the scheduling" etc...... Jack Pedersen, DC Sweet Home Heads up Doctors: Just a brief note to raise a potential concern for field docs. When I opened my mail this morning I noticed that I had been put on a mailing list for lawyers defending hospitals, likely as a result of my participation in the health care law division of one of the legal associations I belong to. (I would like to point out at this point that I don’t defend hospitals incidentally.) A particular newsletter I received today was a reasonably in depth discussion of various types of activities hospitals might engage in which could get them in trouble for fraud. Despite the fact that none of us are in the hospital business, the topic does apply to the chiropractic profession which is why I am posting this here. This newsletter suggests that the FBI has made health care fraud in America a “tier one crime,” and states that “65% of FBI offices cite health care fraud as its No.1 priority.” It goes on to state that the FBI and a number of other federal and state law enforcement agencies including the National Insurance Crime Bureau, police departments, the IRS, the Department of Health and Human Services, the FDA, and the US Postal Inspectors are all working on this issue. The FBI alone is reported to have approximately 200 agents working full time on this issue with a budget of $114 million per year. I bring this issue up because I have had a number of doctors recently talk to me about offers they have received from a particular company to come into their office and provide services which are quite expensive. Doctors generally have not known what to think about this offer, and as of yet I do not know of anyone who has participated. I have talked to leaders from both organizations about this matter, and I think it is time that we raise this and other questionable issues in this forum so that we can prevent anyone from doing the wrong thing and getting in trouble. This is in the profession’s best interest. I think that this board in part should be used to notify doctors of potential practice problems such as this so that we can stay sparkling clean. By doing so we can better ensure that the FBI can spend its entire budget on investigating hospitals instead of our profession. My best wishes, DeShaw, D.C., J.D. Guest guest
Children, I will be on and off forum all day today.. My Fibro is making me crazy because the weather here has turned from nice and sunny and a little warm to damp and cool and raining. I was hurting at a pretty good clip yesterday but this morning... I feel like somebody has beat me with a crowbar from my neck to my ankles! UGH. I am trying to avoid those nasty Norco's cause the ones I just got are a different brand and these tend to make me nauseous. Yeah... let's add nausea to the pain.. that will make things so much more fun, NOT. So I am here but if I don't respond right away don't think I abandoned you... Hear is hoping that everyone is feeling okay and able to eat a bit today... Hugs, Teri
