Gastroenterologist or a Hepologist? -

Hi

A Gastroenterologist deals with the whole digestive system.

A Hepatologist deals with the liver primarily.

So a Hep-doc is more likely somewhat better educated about HCV than a Gastro-doc.

A Hep-doc would also possibly be more aware of things like liver cancer [HCC].

BUT

There are more Gastro-docs, especially in smaller citys.

And Gastro-docs are pretty well educated too.

I use a Gastro-doc, as the nearest Hep-doc to me is 100+ miles away.

She handles a lot of HCV cases, and seems to know her stuff about HCV.

[ I imagine so do most Gastro-docs.]

Im pretty satisfied with my Gastro-doc.

She answers my questions fully, and works with me.

If I lived in a place where I had a choice tho, I would be tempted to try the Hep-doc over the Gastro-docs first.

Possibly, most Heppers see a Gastro-doc....but Im guessing.

Just wonder what most people think would be the better one to rely on for care of this disease. Thanks for sharing.------------------------------------
