Guest guest
Hi Geri What they are looking for at week 12 is a 2 log drop in viral load, not half.. a 2 log drop would be like if you started with a 2 million vl or 2,000,000,, you would have to have a drop in viral load to at least 20,000.. the stats show that if you are not undetectible at week 12, your chances of reaching SVR drop dramatically but that does not mean that you can not reach it.. so most docs will continue IF You have had that 2 log drop but still have a detectible viral load until week 24.. IF you are still detectible at that point, then they either talk about stopping tx or changing tx to twice a week shots or infergen which is a daily shot. But the stats show that one really needs to do a full 48 weeks of tx AFTER becoming undetectible to give you the best chance for SVR.. some ppl do treatment 72 weeks or MORE..My doc didnt do a viral load test until week 12 even tho we both thought I'd cleared by week 2,, so when I was undetectible at week 12, he wanted me to do another full 48 weeks to make sure it was gone,, but I was only have to do a total of 54 weeks of the 60 we planned as I became too anemic and had to go into the hosp for 2 units of packed red cells.. at that point I decided to stop tx.. I couldnt get out of bed for the entire year but I lost 70 pounds but I needed to lose it so,, that was fine by me... I made sure I ate a protein based diet as I was instructed too and while I didnt diet, I just didnt feel like eating too much,, I was full quicker,, and everything tasted bad... but I was in bed for a year and even today Im only out of bed maybe 6 hours per day .. I did put some of the weight back on after tx , I have since lost it and still do not exercise,, wish I could.. You are doing good hon,, hang in there jaxus4heavenbound@... wrote: wow good job..I couldnt get off the couch for 12 weeks..and gained about 15lbs..which I am finally starting to loose, since I can again move the way I want too...the 12 week thing is usually an indecator weather or not to continue tx..if your viral load has dropped at least by 1/2 I think then it is working..if not then sometimes the doc will stop tx. At 12 weeks was when I knew I was changing..I was feeling better, not as tired, not as sick, and sore, and I think it was then that something changed inside me..I am actually waiting for my 12 week test since it wasnt done until 20 weeks..I quit early because of some scarey sides for me..I got really bad edema and swelling in my belly. My legs and hands, and arms were terrible..I could feel the pressure in my head and my eyes felt like pressure and my vision was very blurry. Since stopping about a month ago..I did my last shot 3 weeks ago..I have felt better that way..he also took me off of the cymbalta which is hard on the liver..also put me on wellbutrin which is helping really well with the smoking..I am down to 2-3 a day..glad you are able to keep working that means you were in good shape before hand..you should do well..geri Jackie
Guest guest
Hi lee those spots will be there throughout tx, haha, I looked like a polka dot something or other,, lol,, they were all over my tummy.. they look like bruises but they didnt hurt like bruise,, at least for me,, and they always looked worse when I got out of the shower,, lolLee <leecuate@...> wrote: I did my fifth dose of Pegasys yesterday and so far everything is going well. Whats weird is that I still have a black and blue mark from my first injection site, since the first one there has only been a little redness the next day or two. Maybe the first injection shocks your body more? This is the first day I have taken off since I started treatment. I own a plant nursery and have to work at least a few hours seven days a week. I have had very few side affects, headaches a little sore after loading 200 plus flats of bedding plants on the delivery truck, and sometimes just feeling wierd. I too, have gotten a strange aversion to red meat. Last week I ate some beef and couldn't get the taste out of my mouth for a day. I am still drinking over two gallons of water a day including pedialyte and gatorade. Sometimes I feel congested and get a productive cough (I still smoke 15 cigarettes a day) but nothing that lasts. Luckily it is cooling off into the 90s here in Tucson, October is one of our busiest months of the year and once I make it through the month I can take it easy the rest of the year.I forced myself to gain weight before treatment because I knew that I would lose some during treatment. I am 6' and got my weight up to 190#, I don't own a scale, but this last week I had to tighten my belt one notch.I had always had trouble going to sleep and used to have a drink to get to sleep. after I quite drinking the insomnia got real bad. I have to get up at 4:30 every morning and was only getting a few hours of sleep a night. My primary care doctor started me on AmbienCR a month before I started treatment and I still take one every night at 8 PM. The stuff is great. I fall to sleep quckly and even though I get up a couple of times a night to pee I fall right back to sleep. I'll worry about quitting the Ambien when I am done with treatment in February. My viral load was at 27 million before treatment and my doctor doesn't have me scheduled for a viral load test until my twelth week. I don't know why she isn't having it tested sooner but from what I have read viral load is not an indicator of disease progression or treatment prognosis. Anyway just thought I would let everyone know that at least so far for me I have been tolorating treatment well.I so rarely get a day off that I am not sure what I will do all day, except that I have been craving pasta and am going to make some speghetti.LEE in TUCSONJackie

Guest guest
That is really good to know because I've hit the muscle a couple of times and really freaked out thinking I screwed it up somehow. I've even hit a vein one time. That is why I started angling the needle. And you are right though, when it goes into the muscle it doesn't hurt at all. Guest guest
I haven't been online since I got the first couple of responses to my injection issue, but now that I have I feel better. This is going to sound stupid but I started thinking that maybe the reason that I am my side affects are not too bad was that I was doing my injections wrong. I stopped taking Tylenol to see if they would come back. I felt fine all of yesterday afternoon and evening, but sure enough in the middle of the night woke up with a pounding headache. I wanted to make sure that the Pegasys was working so I didn't take anything. By this morning I was convinced and toke the Tylenol, then I read the rest of the posts. I know that it went in me so I guess that I am doing it right. LEE > > I did my fifth dose of Pegasys yesterday and so far > everything is > > going well. Guest guest
I have also been told that if you accidentally get it into the vein that is ok too . I have a friend that has MS and she goes into the hospital once every 30 days for a three day IV interferon treatment . So I know getting it into the veins isnt going to hurt you .lol But it should be avoided .... Guest guest
Yup you are doing it right , as long as the meds make it into your body you are ok Lee . I would take tylenol about 30 minutes before I took my shots so that the headaches wouldn't be too bad . But just make sure you don't take more tylenol than you need and do not exceed the daily dose and you will be ok . Play games with the kids, and look at there smiles. That will cheer you up. I've never had children too, and it wasn't for lack of trying. Just never happened. Guest guest
marie, More than anything, right now, I am so glad to know you are in a safe place.  I understand the kids thing and that's not easy, and right now, nothing seems easy does it?  You are so strong, you are going to get thru this.  You are so much stronger than I am.  The depression...  ah, that's a by product of the treatment sweetie.  Things that normally wouldn't bother you can break you down to tears right now.  Just know that we are here for you to help you get thru this.  That shot is hard not to think about isn't it?  I used to cuss mine out every Friday afternoon.  As soon as I took it out of the fridge I started calling it names.  You have a great diversion tonight.. children and Halloween.  They love that holiday.  Try to be a kid with them..  it's amazing what it will do for your mood.  Kids are innocent little creatures and sometimes they can say things that really make you think.  If you feel up to it, spend some time playing with them...  be a kid again for a little bit!  We don't get those chances often enough. You are doing such a good job.  Please remember to drink a lot of fluids..  eat when you can.  Hugs, TeriOn Fri, Oct 29, 2010 at 8:46 PM, Rain Beau <annamariestitt@...> wrote:  Hello everyone, i am particularly depressed this week see the domestic violence shelter i am at has 15 children tonight is family night & we are decorating the house with halloween decorations & i am trying not to think of the injection i must go do while the kids are occupied. i never had kids ovarian cancer @ 24 took away Blessed be marie--------- Sent from AT & T's Wireless network using Mobile Email
Guest guest
marieI am sorry to hear that it was ovarian cancer that took out your baby making equipment. I had cervical cancer at 24; but, it was caught soon enough that I had my one and only child almost 5 years later.I stuck to just one child because I was single having him. To this day, he is the most important person in my life. However, when no prince arrived on the scene by the time he was four, I knew that I did not want another and have such a huge difference in age. Now, I have my doubts that he will ever make me a grandmother, so - I'm a surrogate grandmother now to my nieces kids. Three girls and a new boy. That's two nieces. Also, I'm close with my almost 19 year old great-niece. Again, more because her grandmother is a twit and has not been there for them, even though their mother died 8 yrs ago.BUT, I actually hate Halloween and have never got in any kind of spirit for it. Then the thought of 15 kids all in one place, is more than my nerves could take. Yesterday, I had 3 ten-yr old girls and the 3 yr old. That just about broke me. Unbelievably, the 3 yr old was not being the devil child for a change. But, 10 yr olds sure do giggle a lot and what they find funny is more than I can understand. However, just to see all four girls having a treat at Tim Horton's was really nice.Gloria Hello everyone, i am particularly depressed this week see the domestic violence shelter i am at has 15 children tonight is family night & we are decorating the house with halloween decorations & i am trying not to think of the injection i must go do while the kids are occupied. i never had kids ovarian cancer @ 24 took away Blessed be marie--------- Sent from AT & T's Wireless network using Mobile Email
Guest guest
That was a lovely sentiment!! My son doesn't even have a girlfriend, that's why I know that I won't be a grandma any day soon. However, I do watch him with kids and he makes a good uncle too.Gloria I am happy to know you are in a safe place. Please try no not be depressed. Play games with the kids, and look at there smiles. Guest guest
Just my 2 cents here... i LOATHE Halloween.  Always have, even as a kid.  Long story as to why and I won't get into it on forum.  But I don't even like answering my door on Halloween.  My kid never had the interest to go begging for candy.. he asked me when he was pretty young if it was okay for me to just buy him candy instead of him putting on a stupid costume.  I readily agreed.  Now, however, he does the Halloween thing at a local bar every year.  He's won the costume contest a few times.  For me, I'm glad the hubs is off on Sunday.  He can deal with the door.  Hugs, TeriOn Fri, Oct 29, 2010 at 10:09 PM, Gloria <gadamscan@...> wrote:  marieI am sorry to hear that it was ovarian cancer that took out your baby making equipment. I had cervical cancer at 24; but, it was caught soon enough that I had my one and only child almost 5 years later.
