Guest guest
I'm so happy to hear how well things are going for you ! I'm doing awesome! Really trying to get into the bulking thing. Tweaking my diet and exercise for my different goals. I want to gain 10 pounds of muscle and a little fat by the end of the summer. I'm really going to stop drinking diet pop! I've cut WAY back (I was drinking around 12 8oz servings before! That's 96 ounces of pop!) Instead of the figure competition (it would make me more psycho), I'm going to concentrate on staying active and having fun this summer! Going to enjoy my wedding and my honeymoon and play with my dog! I'm going to lift heavy, start my karate, take a cooking class, and start my personal training certification. I'm going to run a few 5Ks this summer, so that way I have a goal still, but I just think competing would be too much of a strain on me, physically and mentally. How is everyone else doing? So far, I have not truly committed to the bulking, I admit. I was 113.4 this morning. I want to be honest b/c I still found myself cutting back. I am serious now, though, and I really want to be healthy! I CAN do this! Sorry for the babbling. I had a bad experience today and my mom made me feel horrible about myself and we fought and I cried. I always thought planning a wedding would be such a happy time. Ha! E wrote: Hey all! I was just wondering today how everyone is doing... I know some of us are really good at letting everyone else know, and I know that some of us are really good about helping others when they need it... BUT, I'm just curious as to how everyone is doing, either how the progress is coming along during a challenge, how maintainence is going, or just how life is going in general... As for me... I got promoted yesterday at work!!! Better hours, better job, AND a 12% pay increase... this poor broke college girl needs it big time! AND I only have 54 days left of school! Hooray!! After week 8 in my challenge I evaluated my progress in every area and set new goals for myself, based on that... Well, it's week 10 and I've achieved half of them! I'm only .2 pounds away from the goal weight I set for myself (the scale is staying under 160, YES!!!!!), but still 2.1% away from the BF I wanted to be at, so I'll need to work really hard to get that down... I've already met/beat my goals for my chest, hips, thighs, and calves, and just need to work on the biceps, forearms, and waist. I'm no where near the original weight goal I set for myself (145) and I don't think I'll be back in my skinny jeans QUITE yet, but reevaluating things totally put my mindset where it needed to be. And plus, I can set more realistic goals for my next challenge, which I'm already thinking about! Hope everyone else is doing well! It's been raining for 10 days here, ick... But should be nice again by Wednesday, here's hoping!
Guest guest
Haha, it seems like sometimes planning weddings bring out the worst in people. I'm sorry you are having a rough time with that Good job on working hard on bulking up! If you are trying to gain muscle, just of course make sure your calories are high enough to actually GAIN... I would need to eat over 2400 calories to bulk up, eek! That's like a 1000 more than I eat now to lose... Karate will be really good for you I think... I think it will really help you find that balance between mind and body. You'll have to telll us how it goes! Forgive me for not remembering, but what was your starting weight when you wanted to start bulking up? How is your BF % looking these days? Guest guest
My weight has flucuated. I started around 117, then when I started back on birth control to try to get my period (which hasn't come anyway, even with it), I went up to 128 almost over night and I freaked out. This morning, it was 112. I'm thinking that's b/c it's my week off of birth control and I start back up tomorrow. Today begins project bulk though. I WILL do it this time! My luck, next month will be the first time I actually get my cycle and it falls right on the week of my honeymoon! Guest guest
Oh good! I do have questions, but I'm on the run now, so I'll get back to you guys! My mom made me feel bad again today, saying how awful I was going to look at my wedding with my veins sticking out. She told me to stop weight training and gain 15 pounds before the wedding (3 weeks!) Yeah, that wouldn't mess with my head or anything! Guest guest
Tara - I was not at all trying to be sarcastic. I know the wedding is approaching. I know you had expressed concern over your libido. I know you recently said you had an argument with your mom. I was only trying to let you remind you that you have a wide range of women here, if you need/want a sounding board. PS to Felicity - thanks! PPS to anyone - yes, it's ok for Felicity to speak on my behalf! n At 02:44 PM 5/28/2006, you wrote: >i can speak for n -- i hope -- i think -- and say she is NOT >being sarcastic >felicity > > > > Are you being sarcastic n? Guest guest
Thanks, I just wanted to be sure! I hate offending people! My libido seems to have shown a small improvement. I'm hoping the higher calories and more fat has helped. It's also nice b/c my fiancee and I have been getting along better and connecting better and trying to spend more time together. Yes, my mom is truly getting to me. She thinks she's helping me to gain weight by screaming at me, telling me to completely stop exercising and to not eat healthy. She doesn't understand that you can gain weight and eat healthy foods and exercise all at the same time! I still have not gotten a period, but I'm really wanting to gain weight now, when in the past, I just knew that I SHOULD want to gain weight, if that makes any sense! n wrote: Tara - I was not at all trying to be sarcastic. Guest guest
Tara,it makes perfect sense. My advise to you, once your mother starts up tell her calmly that you are not wanting to fight with her, so you think it best to change the subject. If she continues, tell her you love her and you will talk to her later and leave, or hang up if she is on the phone. Set limits and make her stick to them. I know, easier said than done, but do it a few times and she will get the idea. Barbara > > >> My weight has flucuated. Guest guest
No that totally makes sense... it's like, the difference between knowing you should want to quit smoking, and actually wanting to quit and taking the steps to achieve that. good job! Guest guest
Well, I'm trying, but it's not going so well. I am still eating relatively the same things, and I find that by dinnertime (like now), I'll have to eat a HUGE meal 6 to get my calories in, and I hate eating a ton right before bed. Right now, it's 7:30 and I've only had around 1450 calories. I don't know what to have to get it up there. I have been eating around 1800-1900 calories though, which is MUCH better than I was! I need to eat more earlier in the day. Also, I have been getting some suggestions and many of said that I should eliminate or severely reduce cardio to around 2 times per week and that I shouldn't do HIIT. What are your suggestions ? I saw that you told someone that it's better to up food then to reduce exercise. I just need to get out of the mindset of filling up on as little calories as possible. I'm like a dieting machine! I have cut back to 1-2 diet pops a day though! E wrote: Alright, it's Tuesday of project bulk, how is it going? Guest guest
I thought you were doing too much cardio for successful weight gain, too many classes and whatnot. You're already having trouble getting your calories high enough to even maintain. If you throw in lots of extra exercise, you're going to have to increase your calories by hundreds a day more in order actually gain something. Brief HIIT sessions are probably a lot better for preserving/gaining muscle mass than long runs or extended aerobics classes. I just wouldn't do the HIIT fasted, and I'd keep it to only 2-3 twenty-minute sessions a week. That will keep your heart and lungs in shape and keep your metabolism awake but it won't burn up your muscle mass. > Well, I'm trying, but it's not going so well. Guest guest
That's what I was planning on. Tomorrow morning is cardio, and I wake up around 4:45 AM and do cardio at 5:30. Any ideas on what I could eat to sustain me, but not make me sluggish? I usually have a shake of whey and fruit after working out and then some cottage cheese w/ an apple a few hours later. Would some yogurt be enough before cardio? Skwigg wrote: I thought you were doing too much cardio for successful weight gain, too many classes and whatnot. Guest guest
Yes, anything small with protein and carbs. It only needs to be maybe 100-200 calories and easy to digest. Some suggestions I posted a while back: a Myoplex Lite a bar (or half a bar) a small RTD shake a big spoonful of cottage cheese and 3-4 dried apricots a tablespoon of peanut butter a cup of milk a yogurt a piece of cheese and a few grapes a cold protein pancake half a peanut butter sandwich on wheat > That's what I was planning on. Guest guest
Do you drink any protien shakes or MSP shakes? If you do, using milk instead of water is a really easy way to add calories... good ones too Re: How is everyone doing? >> >> >>> I'm so happy to hear how well things are going for you ! Guest guest
Tara, Would you try a protein that has more nutrition/calories in one wallup?LOL! Its summer and its hot- so I am fanatical about the ProShakes. Ive just recieved Met-rx Extreme Chocolate in the mail--AWESOME. 38 grms Prot, and 12 carbs if you add some carbs you'll get your FULL meal. And this thing tastes like chocolate icecream. I simply cant beleive that one human being like you has expereinced SO much transformation with her body. 200pds to 109?? wow, you can do ANYTHING you put your mind to! Besides being an athlete, I was wondering if you had another hobby? -- > >>> Hey all! > >>> > >>> I was just wondering today how everyone is doing... Guest guest
I do actually, have hobbies..lol...I am a music teacher, so I'm in a choir and a band outside of teaching. I love to read and write. I'm in a book club, I'm taking a cooking class, I love going to movies and I'm hooked on Days of Our Lives and 24 :-) I also love watching the Indians, even though they are not looking so good this year! Oh, and I like to play with my dog! Yes, I am trying to have a life outside of working out and counting calories! beijobear wrote: Tara, Would you try a protein that has more nutrition/calories in one wallup?LOL! Guest guest
ahh! I too love the singing (I have a masters in opera performance) Musicians are funny in that its been said they use a different part of the brain (much like mathmaticians). I'm assuming you are technically proficient in music theory, since you teach? Do you ever feel inspired to write your own music? your own lyrics? THAT can channel a lot of your energies! I actually find it hard to be passionate about athleticism and singing at the same time (doing both on the same day, even) This is where I need help. I feel expelled...like I only have enough focus to do one or the other...so singing has been hanging in the closet since February...yikes! > > >>> Hey all! > > >>> > > >>> I was just wondering today how everyone is doing... Guest guest
Wow..a master's in opera. I love to sing, but I'm a band director and I teach general music. I do write my own music sometimes, but I do more arrangements of things than anything for marching band and whatnot. It helps a lot to take my mind off of being obsessive about exercise. This summer, I will be pretty busy writing marching band drills, not to mention getting married and getting my house in order! beijobear wrote: ahh! Guest guest
> ...I actually find it hard to be passionate about athleticism and > singing at the same time (doing both on the same day, even) This is > where I need help. I feel expelled...like I only have enough focus > to do one or the other...so singing has been hanging in the closet > since February...yikes! I can really relate to this! I'm a writer, working on a novel, and last year when I did my first BFL challenge I barely wrote at all. This spring I've tried to make both writing and BFL a priority and it's been tough. I'm hoping at some point the exercise and BFL-way of eating will be so automatic it won't require so much focus, but I'm not there yet!.
