Guest guest
Hi Sherry Im glad you posted because I might have some good info for you. First - and this is VERY exciting - you mentioned that you have been prescribed Metformin. Hey, try to take it if you can. Metformin not only helps with Diabetes, but they are saying that it shuts down the HCV replication process too, thus 'curing' HCV.!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.hepatitis-central.com/mt/archives/2010/08/anti-diabetic_d.html As we all know by now, a person with HCV is 4+ times more likely to develope Diabetes than non-infected people. It is also known that as one gets rid of the HCV, you may also get rid of the Diabetes. - AND - It is well known that as a person diets, and loses weight, the Diabetes also goes away. So all this is very exciting stuff to know. Talk with your doctor about this stuff. I am so sorry for those of you going thru depression and "the crazies" with treatment. I have Hepc, genotype 1...sorry can't remember but it's supposed to be the one most resistent to treatment?, viral load of 9 million. I was seeing a hepatologist but had to postpone more visits as I discovered the liver ultrasound she rxed had cost me $1000+ out of pocket. The hep doc told me as near as she could tell I am somewhere between fibrosis and cirrhosis. I have a severly handicapped dtr who is having medical issues right now as well. Meanwhile I was dxed with diabetes (we knew it was coming) 6 weeks ago and I would really like to get my blood sugars under control. I know that the low carb diet works wonders for blood sugars and I have been following it faithfully. I began a diabetes med that I don't seem able to tolerate. I don't know what is affecting what anymore; am I correct in thinking a higher protein diet is not healthy for HCV? I've been putting all this work into switching over from high carb foods to high protein and lowcarb. I need a rocket scientist to help me figure this out lol. I've developed some real pain in the liver area which I never experienced before within the last couple of weeks and I'm wondering if it's from the diabetes meds (metformin) and/or the extra protein. If anyone has any suggestions on where I might be able to find some folks with the same double diagnoses who knows about diet for the combo I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for always being here and for sharing your experiences so faithfully. Sherry (in FLorida)
