Hi Lily

Welcome to the group.

I am don in kansas.

- RELAPSE -

'Relapse' is a kind of a misleading word in a way. [To me anyways.]

I guess in reality, 'relapse' is really another way of saying a 'non-responder' to the treatment meds.

The 'non-responce' just comes at a different point in time, meaning 'post treatment', whereas a true non-responder doesnt respond 'during' treatment.

A 'relapser' also can show becomming 'clear' of the HCV during treatment, and then afterwards begin showing a viral load again.

But both words mean basically the same thing - the meds didnt work.

Teri was pretty close in saying being clear or not, one year after treatment.

Different medical professionals and organizations usually say 6 months, but one year is close enough.

True SVR [sustained viral responce] doesnt really start until 6 months [or one year] after treatment ends.

Until this time peroid passes, post treatment, most people are just refered to as 'responders'....or not.

Here is 2 links to click on that gives more info about this topic:

To my knowledge, there are no 'proven' cases of relapsing beyond the one year post treatment SVR mark.

Medical professionals leave the 'relapse' topic open for discussion though, because the study of HCV is still very young [25 years], and there is still a lot not yet known about it.

Basically if you have stayed 'clear' for one year, usually you will usually stay virus free for the rest of your life.....unless you are re-exposed and re-infected by the HCV at some later date.

There are cases of this happening.

- ALTERNATE PROTOCALS -

In the Links Library I have listed several alternate protocals that some people use to try to control the HCV, and improve health.

See all folders 006 and 007.

There is also some info about possible alternate protocals in the 'HCV News Archieves' - folders 000C, that I have posted.

Here are some interesting ones -

- Metformin

- Ghrelin

- Silymarin Milk Thistle

I also encourage people to eat a liver friendly diet, as that will improve ones general health.

I know that this is a lot of info, but please take the time to read through it.

It will help you with ideas on how to proceed, and dispell some of your fears or questions.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them, and we will all try to help with answers.

Hi all. I was diagnosed in 2007 and looking for alternatives to treatment. I just read the last post and wondering if you reach svr and there is no viral load how do people relapse. That is just one reason I am reluctant to treat.ThanksLily
