Hi Sue

Anyway, quick update. After, what seemed like a

very long time, I managed to get referred to an NHS endo who agreed to trial me

with T3/T4 therapy. I had a bit of a spaced out start (probably tired

adrenals?), but with some sagely advice from Sheila (thank you so much,

Sheila!), a bit of fiddling with the dosage and a lot of patience, I found a

happy medium. After 4 weeks, I'm now on split doses of 10mcg T3 and 75mcg T4. I

don't feel quite right yet, but I feel tons better than I did.

There must be a reason why you are not quite right yet and you

need to find out why. Have you had the recommended blood tests to see if any of

the following are low. Ferritin, B12, Vitamin D3 (most important), zinc,

magnesium and copper? You say it might be your adrenals. Have you done the 24

hour salivary adrenal profile - or have you done the ADRENAL questionnaire that

is in our FILES and the CANDIDA questionnaire too?

The amazing news is that the T3 has improved lots

of things, such as my eyesight (it no longer feels like I'm watching a 1980's

video, with fuzzy edges, all the time), my periods are as they used to be (i.e.

much lighter than they've been for several years), my reflexes are back to

normal, my phantom limb pains have significantly reduced (for me, that is the

most amazing thing!), my hair has more colour (my hairdresser commented on it

two weeks ago - I never dye my hair btw) and the excessive hair loss has

stopped. The increased energy goes without saying.

This is wonderful news Sue. How did your endocrinologist

recommend increasing your dose? Did he recommend that when you increase your T3

you lower your T4 by 25 mcgs? Do you feel you would be best off taking T3 only

- which would be the sensible way to go if you cannot convert the T4 to T3? Do

you feel you need to increase your T3 now as you have been on your present dose

for 4 weeks?

So far, it's been such a success that I've come

off two sets of tablets. Once I'm stabilised, and have been told it's not a

trial, I'm coming off my pain meds too.

Keep up the good work Sue - it is so wonderful to

hear such a story. Perhaps you should write to the RCP and tell them this.

Are they really wanting to keep us all suffering with the awful symptoms of

hypothyroidism because they don't know about the properties of T3 and how

essential it is to make our body and brain function. I sincerely hope they

answer our questions.

Today is the last day for comments and questions to the RCP

guideline.

luv - Sheila

Hi Dawn and Sheila & thank you both! :-)

Sheila ~ my endo suggested reducing my T4 from 100mcg to 75mcg and to take 10

mcg of T3 rising to 20 mcg. As you know, in the early days, I did drop T4 to 50

mcg (but I felt exhausted again so upped it to 75mcg). As for the T3 ... well, I

tried taking it in 10mcg doses and felt spaced out & as though I was on speed.

My gut feeling is I probably need 15mcg T3 and 50 to 75mcg T4. I'm thinking of

doing a saliva test for T3 & T4 sometime next week to see if I'm right.

No, I haven't done an adrenal profile test recently, Sheila. I don't feel

exhausted, as I did when I last did one (about 3 years ago?). It's just that

it's taking me a while to adjust to the meds. I'm thinking that perhaps this has

been going on for much longer than anyone suspected (e.g. I first started

getting heavy periods & periods of hair loss, after the birth of my son, who's

17 yrs) and that I probably need to go slow with any medication change AND that

I should start taking some NutriAdrenal stuff. I'm trying to go to bed early,

and I'm taking things easy and eating well.

I have an appt today, but if I have time I promise I will write to the RCP.

Things have been very hectic here. And, you don't realise what an impact a

change of meds has until you try it, do you?

By the way, when I went to see my endo he asked me if a light had been switched

on when I'd started the T4. I kept saying that it made me feel better, but that

I wouldn't describe it as a light, exactly. However, when I started the T3 a

light did switch on ~ it felt like I'd woken up from a trance (one I'd been in

for years)!

I'm running late now - must go!

Sue :-)

Hi Sue,

How good to hear that you are feeling better- take it gently and

I'm sure you will continue to improve- it takes a long time to heal

fully.

Lynn what is the oreganol? Is it internl or external? I got my memory foam mattress from costco for about $500. I love it but it's a little on the firmer side than some memory foam. I want to deep clean the box spring and mattress with Echo Orange. Straight with no water outside. Let it sun dry. Spray on the Orangal mixture, but on a papered hospital mattress cover. Cheaper, but cooler to lay on. See what happens from there. If that fails I am talking the husband into cheap blow up mattresses. But the pricer ones at Walmart. If that cripples me up to badly than I have no clue what to do next. The bed I have now only gives me 4 to six hours before I hurt so bad I am driven out of it from the pain. The sleep number bed which is my goal bed. Well a few times at the mall over the years I layed on it on my bad hip and could lay there for 20 minutes with no discomfort. All other beds and couchs I can not lay down on my left hip. It hurts bad right away. So that tells me that

the sleep number bed will probably give me better and longer sleep time.

Hi Lynn,

There is a mattress disinfectant treatment that I read about that is also effective for bedbugs etc. It is very simple, and perhaps worth a try before you start moving your mattress outside etc. Basically you just sprinkle an entire box of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) on top of your bed and work it into the seams and fabric, then turn the mattress and do the same to all sides and the box spring. Leave it on for 24 hours and vaccuum up the excess. You can even leave some on there if you are covering your mattress, but vaccuuming will get rid of any eggs, bugs etc. left on the surface.

If you want more protection than that, you could make a mixture of "de-Mite" laundry additive (contains benzyl benzoate and tea tree oil- sold on-line for relief of dust mite allergies) and witch hazel and spray the mattress and box spring with that first, let dry, then start the baking soda treatment.

If you suspect mold spore or fungus involvement you could make a mixture of water and household bleach and spray that all over the mattress and boxspring first, let dry, then start the baking soda treatment.

best of luck with it,

Noreen

We bought the same memory foam mattress from Costco and it is way too firm for my back. Put a softer topper on it and it is still too firm. Those memory foam mattresses are very firm. We had one of those expensive ones before the mites and it was too firm too; that went to the dump because it was infested. Re: Quick Update

Hi Lynn

air matress rule , pull the cork, let it deflate , roll up , fold twice,

placin 5 gal bucket , 1/2 cup of arm & hammer powdered laundry soap & hot water

in the tub , let sit 5mins to 5 hours , tip over bucket , pull out air matress ,

fluff open in tub , run shower w/ cool water on it for 5 mins , pick up the five

final mini rinse , presto ....bugless- ness ..ahhhhh

I place the matres on the hard floor on a misted area ,1/4 cup borax, 1/4 cup

epsom & 2 tbls coconut oil & 48 oz of water , then I mist the air matress w/ 2

tbls coconut oil & 48 oz of water . I never get bit at night.

I used to have a terrible back ach, it was so bed I could only crawl , on nite

the air matress sprung a small leak & I awoke in the morning flat . But my

back ache was 100 % gone & has been since , 7 months now.. Praise God

Bye Lynn,

Watch for those lemons turning in to lemonade : )

Can you really lose your hearing from these microscopic bugs? That's

really scary. I feel them a lot in my eyebrows and eyelashes, or in

the inner corner of my eyes. Could that leave me blind as well? How

can you tell when they're inflicting such damage?

Sorry about your ordeal, Lynn. I feel for you. I'm also infested and

I'm running out of resources to fight these bastards. I have to be

cold every night because any blanket will harbor these bastards in

huge amounts, so I don't even try. I warm up with hot teas, no

blankets for me.

Hi Lynn

I lived the whole matress ordeal , mine was soaked , it was the best thing I

ever did was throw it out , all the plastic covers kept ripping & letting the

sprays in , I used dawn dish soap in those days, (messy but stops a bug in 3

seconds, great for the shower biters) ,But. 1 cup of arm & hammer powdered

laundry soap & 1 cup borax & 1/2 cup epsom & 1 gallon of hot water is way

better , it kills them dead , even borax powder dry spread all over kill them .

But I had to get rid of the hive: the matress . It was a disaster bed , it was

new but infested , the air matress is sterile , I let the arm & hammer powdered

laundry soap water mix go in the 'air fill nipple' while it soaks & hang it up

over the shower cutain rod & all the soapy water drains out. It is the best!

& $9.00 at walmat . Maybe a hammock would also be good , that's what william the

great said he uses , this is war , I have never seen such a nasty bug , kill it

with borax & a & h it

will die .

Lynn if you want I will pay a Man form craigslist to haul off your matress & I

will buy you a new air matress up to $100.00 , they all get holes in them though

, maybe a foam bed ? I heard they stay bugless from a customer of mine , Rush

had good results with bamboo sheets form bed bath & beyond possibly.

I sleep in the car if my house is on bug alert.

My old cars are covered in borax powder dust & it keeps them dead.

I re powder every 3 weeks

God bless you Lynn,

Bill

the hole is bigger and more bugs eating any mold inside will leave me alone and

if there is mold that it does not reinfect me. I am worried quite a bit and feel

I need to sterilize the mattress to kill mold and bugs at the same time.

Mattresses are so deep though I would not have a clue how deep I would need to

clean and if it is possable to dry it enough in one day to keep moisture from

starting anything back up again. If I could afford it I would take it to the

dump and start again. But no sense doing that yet until I do not have to spray

anymore. I could just see a new mattress getting the same problem from my

spraying twice a day all the bedding that is.

my mom is done with her teeth she will probably get me the mattress you speak

Really praying to be well by than. I really do not want grandkids for a whole

I second the opinion that you should get an air mattress. You could put a cover

on the box springs, where it will probably be protected from wear and tear, and

use the air mattress for the top mattress. You can adjust the firmness of a good

air mattress by how much air you put in it. I originally bought one because I

moved into a studio, and when it pooped out (my fault, I threw it onto a basket

that had exposed nails in the handle) I got another one. No bugs coming out of

the bed at night, and it's quite comfortable!

They're cheap at Overstock.com - and shipping is never more than $2.95 so it's

an especially good deal!

Lynn,

Just another note: I found that having the air mattress pumped up so that it is quite hard is less harmful to my hips and back.
