Don't forget Jim Hatton's primer at www.angelfire.com/il/TeenOCD

Also, please printout Chapter 23 from Dr. J's text. [sorry that is the only

Chapter I have seen. Kathy H has it and may be able to suggest other

Chapters as well.]

What Chapter 23 points out is that OCD Hoarders and Clutterers can be moved

to anger and violent response when someone tries to do something with their

'stuff'. This might show that even mild mannered chocolate eaters like me

might become violent.

Good Luck-- Our prayers are with you on this first day of the New Year

Hello all!

Well, it ended up that today was for shoplifting. Tom kept returning to

his group home last winter and often there wasn't any staff to let him

inside. He arrived every day at 2:45. They needed to pick up another

resident at 3, and sometimes the staff was so stupid they would leave early

and forget about him. I still dont know why, but tom went to warm up in

WalMart one time and shoplifted a t-shirt and something else, I cant

remember. He was caught. The security guard reached to take away tom's

knapsack, which is a big NO-NO for tom. The guard grabbed it away from him,

making tom very anxious. Then the guard asked where his parents are, and he

said that he didnt live with them... and received insults for that...

anyway, tom admits that he stole, first time and last, but I dont know WHY

he did it....

Tomorrow the crown attorney is the same one as today so both things will go

to trial. Tomorrow is the assault against staff #1. The lawyer, btw, doesnt

know any details about the shoplifting, said to plead guilty to shoplifting

and not guilty to assault. The staff felt that he was reactive, and tom

should get off... we'll see... The lawyer suggested that she postpone as

much as possible so that tom has the opportunity to demenstrate continued

possitive change...

Sept 30th another assault on staff, same group home. Oct. 4th is the

biggie: the assault against the officer.

I will continue to keep you all posted.... thanks again for all your

encouragement and prayers....

TC,

What a good idea!! Tom comes home Wednesday afternoons and weekends, I'll

pass this post on to him and let him think about it. I like the kids to be

'gently' encouraged - but with a bit of suggestive pushing!!!

Thanks TC - I think that I live on a constant adrenalin rush!!

It's hard to imagine that you have been through so much and yet you still have

enough energy to give the list the needed support. I really admire your spirit

and energy.

Regarding to Tom's trouble and violent tendency, here is my one cent of ideas.

I wonder if you can make some note cards to briefly describe the problem and the

touchy issues with contact names and phone numbers. Have Tom carry these cards

with him. When Tom feels irritated or offended, show the card to the offending

person before he blows up. Hopefully, the other person would get some messages

from the card and avoid the conflict. Of course, this could be too ideal.

First, Tom may not like to show the card when he is upset. Second, there are so

many narrow minded people and would not comprehend things they have not

experienced yet. Therefore, Tom might even get insults from them instead of

cooperations.

, best luck on the coming legal fights. Take care.

TC
