Why can't I do a cleanse?

A year ago, My Dermatologist suggested I try the Atkins diet to help with

psorasis, metabolic syndrome, possible candida. I tried it but I had to stop

within 2 weeks due to severe kidney pain. (In a panic I ate bananas, bread,

crackers, chocolate and a handful of potassium/magnesium/calcium pills and the

pain went away after about an hour.)

There was some bashing about Atkins online saying that high protein diets

depleted potassium which caused this kind of issue.

However, I then tried the HCG diet which appeared to be a little more balanced

as it was protein, veges, fruit and Melba crackers. A high protein diet but

limited to 500 calories/day with 3 1/2 oz of protein x2/day. My kidneys were

fine. I did great. I did have some head rushes which went away with

potassium/magnesium supplementation but otherwise no issues.

Recently, I went to a new alternative medicine and he put me on a 1 week cleanse

(Ultra Cleanse). I thought it might be o.k. since it was basically fruit, veges

and rice plus a protein/vitamin powder.

I'm on day 2 and I can feel the kidney pain coming on. I took

potassium/magnesium/calcium and drank more water but it still won't go away.

Has anyone had this issue before? Maybe I'm not taking the right amount of

supplements? Do you think the Melba crackers might have made the difference

between diet experiences? If so why?

Thanks, Jen
