, while probiotics taken orally are not a requirement for probiotic flourish

in the gut, prebiotics that keep them viable in decent numbers are.

If you take a probiotic in an attempt to make the process faster, make sure it

has several strains of bifidobacteria in it because that's the most powerful

probiotic and lactobacilli have a hard time maintaining a favourable ecology

compared to bifidobacteria. Prebiotics are described in terms of being

bifidogenic for this reason.

Inulin is the best prebiotic IMO because it also feeds the fewest pathogens.

Inulins from several common sources are functionally equivalent and natural,

" native " inulins contain some sugar that can be removed to yield a more

long-chain product. Most people do OK with " native " inulin though and the

highest inulin-containing foods are usually well tolerated too.

My inulin page contains a purchase point and many inulin references including a

table of inulin content of a few foods, about a week of reading and learning

curve altogether :)

The thing to watch for online is mal-information, or less of an issue, simple

uninformed opinion, on this subject. Give more weight to the data than to myths,

give your prebiotic program a fair trial, even 2 years, and meanwhile compare

your personal experiences with those of many others on this particular list and

you'll be fine.

all good,
