Guest guest
Hey Duncan and everybody else, Three days ago on Thursday night when laying in bed to sleep, some heart palpitations started. I had one. and then after a couple of minutes another, finally I had between 5 to 10 palpitations in a time frame of an hour or two. Also, my heart rate was between 90-100 beats per minute when I was in bed. I was a runner in high school and my resting heart rate is below 60. Anyways, I thought of 2 things that might contribute to this problem. The first one is that maybe I am taking too much thyroid medication. On dec. 2009 (4 1/2 months ago) I was put on 50 mcg synthroid because my thryroid was low. Then a couple of weeks later I was put on 10 mcg of T3-liothyronine because I was not converting enough of T4 to T3. The second thing I thought is maybe I am taking too much prednisone or my adrenals are weak. I have been on and off prednisone for the past 2 years because of my diagnosis of Ulcerative colitis-IBD. Last month I had a flare and started taking high doses again. I am now at 15 mg and tapering down 5 mg every week. Well, these heart palpitations (feels like your heart kinda stops for a second or skips a beat) started a month ago. I had 3 one night and it went away. Then a couple of weeks later I had one during a meeting like at 9 pm. So, this past Thursday night/Friday morning I decided to go to the ER because I had between 5-10 palpitations more than I had ever. they checked my heart, it was good and I am still waiting for TSH results. It would not matter so much because they also have to check RT4 and RT3 which they did not. Well, that friday morning I decide to stop taking my 10 mcg of t3-liothyronine medication, but still took the 50 mcg of synthroid. I think is better to be a little hypo for a while than your thyroid going to hyper for too much medication. Anyways, today my throat kinda feels a tiny bit sore for not being on the medication for 3 days now. How do I know if these kinda fast heart beats and heart palpitations are due to my thyroid or adrenals? What should I do? I have been eating 4 tbs -6 tbs-of coconut oil everyday. Thanks. -JJD
