Guest guest
Have you tried putting something on her tummy when she sleeps like big stuff toy or pillows. Or back support belt. I use it to try to prevent air build up in my tummy if i use the in-ex or bi pap. Just might want to try till you get the g tube...

Hi Margaret, The lawyer did get the independant ed consultant to monitor the entire situation but she is around very little and always by appt. Her final report was due long ago but she became ill. She did call me and apologize but it wasn't her fault getting sick. I am having a team meeting with her on 1-15 and she will be giving them her report and suggestions. I have a PPT meeting scheduled on 1-22 that I will ask the attorney to attend. I have to honestly say he didn't do much but his presence was certainly a help. He is able to stop the game playing at the meetings. The ed consultant did say that Zeb was at a very difficult school and how I got him to fourth grade alone in a inclusive setting was a feat in itself. She is very pro inclusive and teaches classes for educators for the state in inclusive practices. I like her very much but she is very careful in her words. I am not exactly sure I trust her either. As far as school, I know that they are not following the behavioral plan. Zeb bit the OT last week. Zeb has never bitten before. The central office called the next day but had very few details to give me. I was told by the teachers the day I picked Zeb up from school that he had bit the OT but he was in art at the time and the teachers were not there. The aide had left to get somehing out of the classroom so she didn't know exactly what had happened. I was told that Zeb was put in a timeout room and isolated from his classroom for the rest of the day by the teachers. The school at that point had violated the behavioral plan. I did tell central office that I was aware that the plan was not followed and I was told that they could alter it at their discretion. A few of the kids did tell me exactly what had happened and the events did match. The parents are upset that the kids have to watch Zeb treated like a dog. The kids are upset watching what goes on. I have no choice but to use surveillance. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions? I am not sure what the attorney can do about the school not following the behavioral plan. I feel like the only mom that is in constant battle with the school. Sorry this is so long. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 10 DS/OCD ?

Guest guest
Hi Margaret, I remember you telling me about your battle. I didn't actually know it was about placement too. I think the fight is tough as IDEA has many gray areas on LRE. It is much easier to have a child with DS that is very compliant and goes with the flow. Zeb has quite a personality and can speak his mind, sounds like his mom, LOL. Zeb's classmates are getting older, bolder and wiser. They are used to Zeb's ways, knowing how and what upsets him. The staff has to deal with the other students, not only Zeb, when they create problems. The other students have actually become better people having Zeb with them. It is the highlight of my day to watch these kids interact with Zeb so wonderfully. They are setting the tone for their parents. It is the one positive outcome that the district has observed and cannot deny. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 10 DS/OCD ?

The school didn't file anything that's what annoyed the parent so much. I think we may do battle with her real soon. I know she doesn't understand but she also doesn't want to understand either. I am not surprised that the police came to your house. I actually think they would have come here too if we didn't store the police race car. They race in this town with proceeds going to the Jimmy Fund. We let them keep the car in our yard. Most of the police know Zeb and our family. They happened to be here when we got the call LOL. Hi Margaret, Zeb was given the meds by the neurologist. They upped the topomax not the luvox. I am going to call on monday but if I ask for a specific med she may think I am nuts myself,(almost). I am not going to make any impulsive decisions about school now. If we continue to have problems the attorney may go to due process and request a change of district. He has mentioned this to me before. I am afraid to have the same problems elsewhere and having to start all over in another town. I just have so much going on right now I have no idea what to do. I see a child psychologist now but I really think we need to see a psychiatrist. I will have to wait the 7 mos. for the first appt. I will continue to see the psychologist until the appt. I don't have much experience with these people. He sees only me and never asks to see Zeb. I have brought him with me a few times but I'm not sure if this is normal. Zeb can talk but he would never answer a w question. I barely get anything out of him if there is a problem. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 10 DS/OCD ?
