Guest guest
Hi Joyce, Welcome back! You are not alone is this revision thing, I too am interested in one. I had my surgery 5/26/00 and have lost 80 lbs, which I am happy about, but I still need to lose about 40ish. I have a 12-month follow-up scheduled with Dr. R on July 24th, so that is one of the first things I want to talk to him about! I will keep you posted on what he has to say! Well everything is going fine with me. The weight loss isn't what I wanted at almost a year later but I guess I will have to be happy with it. I have lost only 65 pounds in a year. I would like to have a revision done.I have missed the group and hearing how everyone is doing so I am glad to be back on. My old name used to be RobandJoyplus4. Have a great day. Guest guest
Hi Joyce! Long time no hear/see! I'm down 112 or so, but have not lost for about 4 months. The funny thing is people are still remarking that I'm still losing so much!!! Ha. I'm in a 14, but with a tummy tuck I think I could do a 12. I'm really looking forward to having that done! I don't know when it will be, though. Too many other things going on. I do remember you, and just wanted to say hi! What's up with the move to NY? Guest guest
Hello Amy, We are moving to NY because my husband got a new job at State University Oneonta in NY. I will be alot closer to home about 7 hours away instead of this 14 hours now. We are moving Aug. 4th. I will have to see about the new insurance to see if it will pay for me to have a revision so I can get the rest of this weight off. I don't know if I can go thru Dr.R since he requires $5,000 down(that is what I heard) but guess we will have to see. Take care of yourself and your weight loss is great. Love, Joyce

Guest guest
Hi , I am also a single mom. I have 2 daughters, ages 4 & 6. I have a hard time with my illnesses keeping up with them but I do the best I can. My girls understand that I cannot do all those outside "physical" things with them but we do find plenty of other things to do together. My daughters are one of the biggest reasons that I can keep going even when the world seems like it is caving in. I visited your website and I left a message in your guest book. I am so touched by the stories that I read. I bookmarked the site and will visit again in the near future. Hugs, in Finland well I am 21 single mom from california. Guest guest
Welcome back, ! I've been thinking of you and looking forward to hearing this good news. It must be pretty nice to stand tall again. Take care of yourself and heal well. Sharon I am back Hello - I just got back from NYC yesterday and am recovering here in Alabama now. My surgery was 1-20 with dr farcy. He performed a pedicle subtraction at L3 and refused L2 - apparently that had never fused from the earlier surgery. I did not do the artificial disc. While I am still in pain, I can tell that he accomplished the realignment - i stand straight with my head above my hips and as much lordosis as anyone! My attention span is short b/c of the meds but I will check in and try to answer Q's if anyone is having surgery soon. in general I will say that the book by Kathleen McCue and the lists of things to take to hospital were very valuable and the only thing I would add is that you want button up nightshirts made of slick material, not flanel or rough material, because sometimes being able to slide and extra 2 inches on the sheets into a new position makes all the difference in the world, and flannel does not slide like satiny matieral does! Can someone refresh me on what I do to get the emails delivered to my email? I have searched the site and annot figure out how to get that feature on again. Guest guest
Hi ... Did you actually wear your nightshirts while in the hospital? If so, what did you do when someone wanted to examine your back? Regards,
Guest guest
No - I stayed in hospital gown that was open everywhere it seems like while in hosp. The nightshirts I needed after I was discharged and no longer had nurses to logroll me. I did not need ospital bed but did raise my bed using cinderblocks. Did need potty extender (still do). Alsoshower chair with back and grabber. Sarna helped the itching and baby powder was good also. If brace (surprise - I got one) need elastic waist pants and larger shirts to fit over, t shirts for under (i just used hanes) A > > From: " Racine " <lindasjunk2002@...> > Date: 2004/02/08 Sun PM 09:57:14 EST > > Subject: Re: I am back > > Love

Guest guest
Gosh, Beth, I believe you just wrote one of the most supporting letters I have seen in a long time! I actually choked while reading it. Now, THAT is what we're about here, right? I don't mean to say that we can't " vocalize " our own hurts, etc., but we are all looking for support, and you just gave it in a major way! Sincerely, Carole M. Guest guest
, WELCOME BACK GIRL!!! SO glad you're back home and recovering well. Isn't it wonderful to feel and look " normal " again, with the new lumbar lordosis and all??!! I think I've said before that, while I'm not a particularly vain person, I did find myself " posing " in front of my full length mirror at home more often than usual after my revision!! It sounds silly, I know...but it was just so amazing to me to be standing up stright again after staring at my feet for so many years prior to my revision surgery (June 2000)!!! Even though you may feel a bit " whacked-out " (as my teenaged son used to say to me!) from your recovery meds, I'm sure you feel better just being back in your own home, in your own bed, with your family!! I know I did! And speaking of beds...you are absolutly right about wearing silky night clothes. I still only wear nighties or P.J.'s that are slippery. I think that log rolling is permenantly etched into our brains from all of our surgeries!! And it makes it SO much easler to change positions in bed when you can slide a bit as compared to getting stuck on your sheets when you're wearing flannel. My hubby and I hate silk sheets...someone gave us a set when we got married 21 yrs ago and we tried them once...they're still folded in the linen closet, un-used!! We live in land now, but we're originally from Erie,Pa.; we're more used to lake effects storms and bitterly cold winters then these rather mild Md. winters. We don't consider wearing long-johns to bed under our jammies that unusual at all!! So on cold nights, I'll wear my thermals under my silky night clothes so as not to stick to the sheets but still stay warm and toasty!. My hubby also does not care for flannel sheets...he's a 100% cotton kinda'guy! It's been a pretty cold winter this year in land so my thermals have gotten a lot of use. Ever since I went through menopause, I seem to be cold all the time, even when it's warm outside. God, it's hell getting old, isn't it?! Congratulations for surviving yet anaother spinal procedure!! Stay patient while you're going through this recovery time...you're going to have good and bad days, but in time, the good ones will outshine the bad ones!! The difficult stuff is in your past now....relax, don't push yourself and try to do too much too soon. Each day will be different and slowly but surely, you'll be back to your old self again...the person you were BEFORE Flatback Syndrome changed your life! All the best, Beth
Guest guest
So what's wrong with 100% cotton flannel sheets? (Most are 100% cotton.) Soft, absorbant, warm in winter, cool in summer. We use them year-round, but as for night clothes, well, it's just the two of us and I've been trained for 13 years now to dress as Hubby prefers! (You know, the suit God gave me!) Guest guest
> More power to you! I was simply saying that being kind of slippery helps you move around in bed better in thosefirst post op weeks, which I am still in. Guest guest
Oh, boy. I do not even know what we are talking about. I just want to chime in and say that I never noticed the slightest problem with any kind of sheets after any of my surgeries. Maybe I am just not very observant. I will say, speaking of husbands, that some things are kind of awkward to do when you are required to wear your post-op TLSO throughout. Guest guest
For 's sake, I hope you're right, Beth. Let's also hope my second revision is my last. I want to add that no one should be discouraged for many months after a revision. I had marked improvement around month #11, after thinking I had done all the recuperating I was going to do.
