Guest guest
Overdoing Potassium could be lethal. Guest guest
Sure, Bonnie, but I just use " no-salt " . How many caps equals 2 grams of potassium? Guest guest
Duncan: I just wasn't sure if GLUCONATE was the correct form to use. Is it? The capsule is 1,000 mg providing 167 mg. Elemental Potassium. So there is a limit to the amount of Potassium we use and would that be 2,000 mg? Guest guest
So could water kill ya, MM, or toast and tea When people look up the LD50 for potassium in humans they'd see that in grams per kilo of bodyweight. We're not even in the ballpark using No-Salt. Guest guest
Bonnie, when you gooogle the subject you'll see that a lot of high-end health people suggest a 5-10 gram shortfall of potassium is about average in North America. By now most of us are already on a somewhat better diet, but you'll have to figure it out for yourself, and a couple of grams might be a good and safe start, that's all. Your pills are low but I note pharmaceutical sodium supplements are pathetically small too. Gluconate is bioavailable. all good, Duncan > > Duncan: > > I just wasn't sure if GLUCONATE was the correct form to use. Is it? > > The capsule is 1,000 mg providing 167 mg. Guest guest
Okay, thanks, so you're saying that Gluconate is okay and that maybe 2 grams would be safe for an old lady. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, if the label on your potassium gluconate, 1000 mg elemental potassium, says two pills a day is good, take two. I would take three but my biology and diet is quite different. 90% of the potassium is in your tissues so a couple of grams will not upset the balance and may not even address the shortfall adequately, but it's better than you had The LD50 means a 50:50 chance of dying from eating 180 grams, about 6 1/2 OUNCES of potassium (chloride in that case). A whole shaker or two bottles!! Not that anyone could gag down all that chemical but if it really concerns MM as much as her objections indicate, it probably concerns at least one other person on the list and maybe we can alleviate all their fears about potassium supplements at the same time. Again, many health pros suggest 5-10 grams daily if you look it up, about 1/20 of the " danger zone " . all good, Duncan > > Okay, thanks, so you're saying that Gluconate is okay and that maybe 2 grams > would be safe for an old lady.
