Steve Meyerowitz book " The Wheatgrass Book " has quite a bit on spouting

and using barley grass. Tells about the Japanese founder of the

barleygreen stuff etc.

I got it from the public library here(Hawaii).

Apparently barley grass can be used by some people who

feel sick from

wheat grass. Also, it is very calming because it

brings calcium into

suspension in the blood stream I read.

Hi ,

And I just bought some hulled barley. I was told that

would sprout as pearled barley will not. Is that what

you use?

I'll try anything once and I am looking to increase my

alkalinity and according to Barefoot, calcium

does the trick.

Hi Marilyn!

Yes, Hulled barley is what I'm sprouting. I just started another

tray. I think I'll alternate it with wheatgrass. The first night I

got my jiucer I drank over 4 ounces of wheatgrass because I had a

tray which was far gone - I get mold on the roots fairly fast here.

I'm experimenting with the dirtless growing and wanting to try some

dirtless media other than nothing. It seems like the sprout want

something to put their little feet into. Have you tried jute or hemp

or any other fiber for a sprouting base?

Personally I don't use barley grass daily but when I feel like I need a hit of

greens and don't have fresh stuff around I use Jade Greenzymes from Nikken.

It's grown in a pristine environment and watered with Piwater and it tastes

good.

So, to look for: where is it grown (cannot be from a known polluted area!)? What

is it watered with? How is it dried? Is it certified organic? Those are a few

things to look at.
