Guest guest
Welcome to the group. Hang around the group for a while and you are going to find many answers. I can give you some ideas but it is too late for me now. I don't like Ketoconazol too much, specially if you are planning on using it for long time. I mean, the drug is effective but a high risk of liver damage is present. Not always, but Nizoral is the most offensive drug in this matter. . > > Hello, > I just recently joined the group and wanted to ask about a specific issue that surfaced for me recently. Guest guest
Carolyn, i will try to give quick answers beneath your comments. it is really late even for me, too!! [see below please and thanks] Louise [i will bold whatever i write.] Not always, but Nizoral is the most offensive drug in this matter. . the ND i talked to today for an hour said that with my liver as compromised as it is, that it is unwise and would make me worse, to take ANY medicines without strengthening the liver and kidneys, first!!! [NB: she has overcome systemic candida herself, naturally!!!!!] > > My current treatment process includes: a. Nizoral; b. Renew Life: IntestiNew (Heal Intestinal Lining) and Intestinal Bowel Soother; c. Vegan diet (wondering if lima beans and cabbage are too severe); limas are high carb. i would not. i hear cabbage hard to digest, but steaming it helps me. i will ask my ND re it when i can. > d. Vitamin D with Sea Iodine; e. Armour Thyroid (for borderline hypothyroidism) > >> > 1. Is it common to go from constipation to diarrhea? i hear that it can be common. i fight systemic candida too. my bowels are very regular and NO PROB with constipation or diarrhea. eating fish, natural poultry, eggs, seeds nuts washed first removes molds, steamed and raw veges, multis with minerals, c's hcl with proteins, enzymes with seeds nuts, coconut and olive oils, unsalted butter i use raw salt. plan to start with ND who has a LOT MORE for me to be doing to detox my system. she, again with natural means, overcame systemic candida. she knows how to do this! i mainly do veges and just enough of the proteins to act as " binders. " seeds nuts are laxative. even with systemic candida, i have NO PROB with constipation or the other... > > 2. Is mucus in the stool a common occurrence? it is if your candida is out of control like mine has been, and you will not only find mucous in the stool--literally the mucous lining of the stomach sloughing off--but if you let it go further, you will have blood with it like i did 6.5 years ago. it is the candida boring *through* the stomach to get to other parts of body. > > 3. My tongue has this whitish coat that is not going away even with the Nitrozal. Are there other things I can do to alleviate this problem? the white is yeast/fungus. check library for the encyclopedia of natural medicine. by 2 ND's. has a candida section a bit outdated--they recommend fruit, do NOT do fruit, grains of any kind, or high carb veges or high carb seeds and nuts!!!!!--but i am fairly certain they cover the white on the tongue. > > 4. I was allergy tested, and reacted positive to some items. The physician placed me on a steroid nose spray. Was this a bad idea? He contends that the steroid amount is negligible and doubt it would cause problems. Of course, he doesn't believe in a correlation between candida and allergies. according to my ND, any chemicals we use stay IN THE BODY and can not only toxify us, but they react with each other and form new compounds!! [not good!!!] we want to DETOX the body!!!!! > > 5. Does caffeine irritate the lining of the intestines? > > 6. Can I return to taking my multivitamins, curcumin, etc? Some authorities believe it is a waste to take vitamins during an acute process because they will not likely be absorbed. i take my vitamins and minerals--God knows i need em! oh do not take clay or psyllium while working to build up probiotics in the gut! the clay and psyllium will just undo what the probiotics are trying to accomplish!!! > > I would appreciate any suggestions, recommendations you can provide that would assist me in moving toward a state of recovery. > > Kind Regards, > Carolyn > Kind regards to you too--it's my *favorite* complimentary close!!! Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the warm welcome. I was referred to this site via another internet site as one that explores all of the myths and realities regarding the candida complex. For the last 2 - 3 months, I have been responding to my newly retired status. The stress of that adjustment seems to have ignited a greater craving for those things that seem to impact my body in ways that are not helpful: a. cashews; b. peanut butter; c. cheese; d. lots of chocolate, etc. The contradiction is that, all things said, I eat healthy meals. (lots of fresh salmon, fresh tuna, fresh vegetables, whole grain, fresh fruits - apples, pears). But lately I have been eating cashews by the handful, cheese (sometimes craving ounces of cheese at one sitting, then returning for more), getting up in the middle of the night to sneak chocolate because I can't sleep, returning to high glycemic foods that I know are not helpful. (i.e., bananas) I think you are correct regarding Nizoral (sorry about the previous spelling). I have tried Diflucan, Nystatin, and neither seemed very effective. So, am at a loss in terms of the drug for systemic candida. I did experience a " die off " response (flu-like symptoms, lack of appetite, low-grade fever, just the blahs). I cut it back from 2 to 1 per day. I have difficulty swallowing pills / caps, so I use products that I can open or chew. (capsules, soft-gels). My physician measured my liver panel before prescribing, and has only dispensed 1 month's supply. If you have other suggestions, don't hesitate to let me know. I have a physician who works with me (on what works). I forgot to add that I do take the Flor-Essence Whole Body Detox as well as Massey's Candida products. Guest guest
Carolyn, IF you have candida as has stated, then--i can't remember what I wrote early this am--LOW CARBS are in order. IF it is candida, then it's NO high carb veges, NO grains, NO fruit. and a lot more. Yes is right. what are your symptoms? and if you experienced die-off and have described it accurately as flu-like [precisely what i feel and say!] then it sounds to me that you DO have first-hand experience with it! (oh you had said something about mucous in the stools? i did respond to that. it is a sign of the candida so out of control it is sloughing off the mucous lining of the stomach. NOT a good thing. the sugars feed candida, the high carbs...) so keep asking questions, and welcome to this group! Guest guest
I was diagnosed by my physician, who does practice holistic (as well as traditional medicine). She diagnosed me based on symptoms. Additionally, I used Dr. Crook's checklist to evaluate my symptoms. I can only say that I know my body, even though I am not a physician, and I do believe it is candida. I am in great health, with the exception of this process that seems to appear whenever I am stressed or binge on cheese, peanut butter, and sweets. I am 65-year old, who works out with a trainer twice per week. I have been told I look like a 49-year old. Just had a medical exam, and other systems seem to be intact. As indicated on the past post, I eat very well, but I have not handled retirement very well. I have struggled with the concept of not working, even though I am financially sound. So, the stress pushes me to levels of anxiety that have affected my internal balance. Results: abuse of diet via the things mentioned before. I have always internalized stress, though on the surface I appear very calm. It always seem to seek my solar plexus and the organs in that area. I just recently returned to meditation, and find that it helps to soothe the bowel for me. Key symptoms (over the years): a. chronic sinusitis...particularly during rainy seasons; b. sensitivity to perfumes, smoke; c. constipation with mucus; d. post-nasal drainage; e. bruising easily...usually one of the first symptoms; f. vaginal itching; g. white coat to tongue; h. down in the dumps; i. bloating; j. malabsorption that occurred when I started taking the fish oil; k. lots of rumbling in my stomach/ intestines; l. low blood sugar symptoms; m. craving sugar, cheese, bread; n. sensitivity to certain foods, like milk; o. suddenly started coughing as if something has drained into my throat; p. croupy cough that occurs primarily at night; q. symptoms of GERD. No antibiotics; I practice alternative medicine for the most part. The only time I take medicine is when this flares up. I am using a cortisone spray for my nose since being recently diagnosed with allergies to some substances. (dust mites, specific tree pollen. I do take Armour Thyroid for borderline hypothyroidism. I am feeling a lot better in the last 3 - 4 days. The distention is subsiding, my stools are becoming more regular. I am not craving sugar at all, but did eat some apple sauce last evening. I know that I am just a candy bar away from the symptoms recurring. I continue to take Nizoral, and was planning to add Nystatin to the mix. Hope this helps, and I do appreciate your help as well. Guest guest
Hello Carolyn,  The first thing I recommend is that you stop eating chocolate, cashews, and peanut butter, and fruit; you are not going to get rid of candida if you eat those things, no matter how many anti-fungals you take. It is a harsh reality, but nobody gets better until they stop eating candida-feeding foods. It sucks. But you cannot feel better unless you go through the withdrawal period of not eating sugars or things that turn into sugar. We have learned this through hard experience. Some people will say that you can go back to eating these things eventually, and others will say you can't. I would guess it depends on the person.  Beans turn into sugar also.  And speaking of a vegan diet, are there any vegans on this site who have conquered candida and remained true to their veganism? Duncan, the naturopath who answers questions here, thinks veganism is extremely unhealthy. Of course he is not the ultimate authority. But I haven't heard of a vegan who beat candida. So I'm asking if there is one here!  Oh, and take probiotics.  From: carolynmil <carolynmil@...> Subject: Re: Questions - General Symptoms candidiasis Date: Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 6:36 AM  Hi , Thanks for the warm welcome. Guest guest
Hi Louise, Thanks so much for the warm welcome and the information. Yes, low carbs it is. For the last 2-3 months I have been on my personal high carb binge, and it seems every bodily system is paying for that right now. I am currently not doing high carbs, eating only quinoa and buckwheat in the grain class, and salmon (animal protein). I am eating lots of veggies (mostly non-starchy) and no fruit. I described my symptoms in the last post. Quite a lengthy number I might add. I will mention a few of the most acute symptoms: * a. constipation (mucus in stools); * b. bruising easily; * c. chronic sinusitis; * d. post-nasal drainage; * e. allergies (recently diagnosed); * f. GERD-like symptoms; * g. intolerance for fats (i.e. trouble digesting salmon); * g. fatigue; * h. bloating; * i. brain fog; * j. emotional, i.e.,easily coming to tears....very unlike me; * k. feel really bad if I miss meals; * l. vaginitis; * m. dry skin; * n. frequent urination; * o. waking up in the middle of the night hungry; * p. tinnitus (ringing in ears); * q. nasal stuffiness; * r. die off after going on Nizoral and other anti-fungals; The die off does feel like a bad case of flu. In fact, that's what I thought it was. * s. white coating on tongue. This is a very informative and educational group. I hope that I will be able to bring value as well over time. Guest guest
Ok, it is time to give you my ideas. Try to get this test done..Candida immunecomplexes IGG, IGM, and IGA. Eliminate Gluten from your diet for one month and see if this improve your condition. When systemic candidiasis affect mucous membranes like sinuses and other parts, many time isn't an an albicans strain but candida krusei or another resistent to azoles specie. So, Nizoral, Fluconazol, Itraconazol don't have effect on them. You may need Caspofungin, Miconazol or another antifungal. Oral Nystatin isn't a systemic drug. It only act in the gut. Try to get a culture of the first morning sputum. This could show what candida specie is affecting you. I also advice you to take a CDSA from Metametrix, Geneva, Great Plain or other recognized lab. Visit this website..Ask Dr Stoll. com and buy this book (very cheap in Amazon too) The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Handbook, by Martha . If you like to research and read, you are goin g to follow in love with Dr. Stoll. He is a candida pioneer MD. He is already retired but still answer question in his own forum. Another interesting website is Dr. Cranton page. If your MD is a holistic Dr, you are very lucky and you can discuss with her all this. . > > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > I just recently joined the group and wanted to ask about a specific issue that surfaced for me recently. I was being treated for systemic candida (long-term off and on condition), started to load my system with lots of oil-based nutrients. (COQ10, Mega GLA, Tocotrienols, and finally Fish Oil). Suddenly I started having very oily stools, with oil floating on top. I became concerned, visited my physician, who believes that it is probably related to the candida and possibly an irritable bowel syndrome. Guest guest
Carolin, After reading your symptoms again, I encourage you to be gluten free for a couple of months. Candida usually overgrowth in the intestinal tract, specially in the small bowel, and then, move to other parts of the body if it has the chance to scape from the intestines. Gluten sensitivity is linked to candidiasis and at the same time to thyroid malfunction. I don't know if you have tried to be gluten free yet, if not, it is a must for you. I can be wrong but I want to give you the best of my ideas. Since I have been in this battle for long, I am aware of what can be done to get the things under control. . > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > I just recently joined the group and wanted to ask about a specific issue that surfaced for me recently. Guest guest
What make me to believe you are affected by a non albicans specie is Nizoral is a little bit more broad spectrum than Fluconazol against other candida species. Also, your sinus problem. If you are responding well with it, it could be another candida. Again, Ketoconazol is hard for the liver. Be aware of it seriously. My best, . > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > I just recently joined the group and wanted to ask about a specific issue that surfaced for me recently. Guest guest
Carolyn,I have bolded my comments, and obviously only responded to the items with which i was most familiar and certain about...   b. sensitivity to perfumes… ND’s of encyclopedia of nat’l medicine say candida causes sensitivity to chemicals. I also suffer tremendous allergy to molds.  c. constipation with mucus; mucus again a bad sign—candida boring through stomach, causing mucous lining of stomach to slough off d. post-nasal drainage candida can cause this, as well as the sinusitus mentioned earlier g. white coat to tongue fungus; k. lots of rumbling in my stomach/ intestines; the candida sure does this to me!!!  m. craving sugar, cheese, bread; this is literally the candida screaming for its food! Feed me sugar it is saying!!! If we deny it—starving it out, the cravings DO GO AWAY!!! I don’t even MISS the sugar!!!!! n. sensitivity to certain foods, like milk; if it’s candida, then milk is out due to the lactose which is sugar. Even cultured milk is not recommended as it produces trace amts of alcohol which turn to sugar in the body nystatin/nizoral the problem with chemicals is that, as per the ND i spoke with the other day--for an hour--[the chemicals] stay in our bodies, and combine with the other chemicals, producing new substances. we need detoxification from these substances! and the toxicity itself can cause illness of course.  hope this helps. Louise   From: carolynmil <carolynmil@...> Subject: Re: Questions - General Symptoms candidiasis Date: Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 7:43 AM I was diagnosed by my physician, who does practice holistic (as well as traditional medicine). Guest guest
i agree with sarah's comments. also taboo on this diet are high carb veges and grains. *all* grains even quinoa, amaranth, millet and buckwheat. ..what makes this diet do-able for me is making the foods i CAN eat both plentiful and tasty. lots of healthy spices like curry. olive and coconut oils, unsalted butter. and feeling better is reward in itself. when i think of it, really, considering how i *used* to eat, i do DESERVE this diet. penance. whatever. it is what it is, and i can be humbly grateful i get to eat at ALL OR i can be grumbly hateful that i can't put any old thing in my mouth and get away with it anymore, like the " olden days. " i still have more to be grateful for, than i have to complain about!! :-) Louise From: carolynmil <carolynmil@...> Subject: Re: Questions - General Symptoms candidiasis Date: Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 6:36 AM Hi , Thanks for the warm welcome. Again, thanks for the welcome, and I am excited regarding the wealth of information and sharing that I know is available on this forum. Guest guest
My comments in bold beneath yours, again... Hi Louise, Thanks so much for the warm welcome and the information. Yes, low carbs it is. For the last 2-3 months I have been on my personal high carb binge, and it seems every bodily system is paying for that right now. I am currently not doing high carbs, eating only quinoa and buckwheat in the grain class, even quinoa and buckwheat are grains and have high carbs which turn to sugar and feed the candida. NO grains of ANY kind, even those 2!!! and salmon (animal protein). if you are having trouble digesting salmon as it is " fatty " then eat other fishes; also i take hcl's with my proteins to aide digestion and enzymes with the low carb seeds and nuts--rinsing them first to remove any molds from storage I am eating lots of veggies (mostly non-starchy) they need to ALL be LOW CARB. i went to dr atkins' website and checked out the carb counter list and found the lowest carbs for veges and the seeds and nuts. you can also read the labels on nut packs for instance, they will tell you. and no fruit. I described my symptoms in the last post. Quite a lengthy number I might add. I will mention a few of the most acute symptoms: i responded to this list in am email tonight, the items i was sure of. you should see it posted soon! Kind regards, Louise ------------------------- * a. constipation (mucus in stools); * b. bruising easily; * c. chronic sinusitis; * d. post-nasal drainage; * e. allergies (recently diagnosed); * f. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks again for the wonderful insights. For the last 2 weeks, I have been on the following kind of diet. (adopting a lot of principles from the Body Ecology Diet book) A sample breakfast: * non-starchy vegetables (ex. yellow squash, swiss chard, spinach) * scramble eggs (soft scramble with olive oil); * Egg swap: wild salmon with veggies OR plain cream of buckwheat (no gluten) Sample Lunch: * Quinoa with non starchy vegetables (sometimes swap the protein from breakfast to lunch) Snacks: * Soft boiled egg Dinner: * 3 - 4 non-starchy vegetables (all organic from Whole Foods) * Occasionally - wild salmon or sardines The following have been removed from my diet: * Bread * Sweets * Dairy * Caffeine I have added probiotics (young coconut kefir) as well as other probiotics. I am drinking coconut kefir in the mornings. I continue to take the products that facilitate healing of the gut and reducing permeability. Also, continuing to take RenewLife fibersmart product. I have reduced the Nizoral from 2 to 1 per day. I continue to take the Massey Candida Freedom and Candida Digest. I have noticed the results, particular in the last few days: * Bloating significantly reduced * Most days have Bowel movements without a laxative (no mucus noted) * Less fatigue; worked out with my trainer today and it was very intense. I survived. * Appetite is returning. I get hungry after working out. At one point, I was not hungry. During the die-off period. Still have the moments when I am not emotionally " UP " (but not depressed...just blah). I assume that is part of the process. Getting long winded.....hope my experiences help others as well. Guest guest
Hi Louise, All I can say is WOW! I have learned more from you guys than I learned from my holistic doctor in years. I know this is trite, but it is truly evident that 'experience is the best teacher'. You and are a bounty of knowledge, and I am sure there are other folks here that reflect the learning gained through their own processes. All I can say is: thank you over and over again. I will be mindful of the Nizoral. I am not one that believes in chronic consumption of drugs. In my previous life I was a Registered Nurse, and got out of the profession because I no longer believed in the medical model. I taught Nursing, and tried to get my students to see that the body has self-healing capabilities as long as we support the systems and processes. They couldn't get that, so I finally got tired of the fight and left. Many thanks for the information shared, and I will apply every principle that you provided. Guest guest
Hi , I missed your email. Not sure how that happened, but thank you so very much for your wisdom and sharing. So, let's see. I have complied with everything you stated in the first paragraph: no cashews, chocolate, nut butters. I have pretty much reverted to a lot of the principles in the Body Ecology diet. I applied some of the principles in 2008, and really felt good. Guess what!? I felt so good that I started to re-enter the candida-feeding foods back into my diet. My thought was: " I can try a little of this and a little of that " . I had far too many rationalizations for bad choices. I am not a vegan. I do eat lots of fresh salmon, turkey, chicken (free -range). I have not eaten beef or pork since 1980 only because I stopped enjoying the taste. My preference is to consume fish (cold water fish rather than turkey or chicken). I am taking probiotics. I trust your knowledge and words. You are living it, and this forum is the most powerful entity I have found on the subject of Candida. I am just sorry it has taken me so long. You are yet another very informed and wise person who has your journey as a testimony to your knowledge. Thank you so very much for sharing these learnings with me. Guest guest
Hi Carol; no, caffeine doesn't irritate intestine lining. I note that you work out a lot but do not take glutathione precursors so you will have above normal oxidative stress especially for your age; further, you are not supporting immune system adequately for an elder. The glutathione references, linked on my lutahtione references page, measures increased age-related oxidative stress, and its increase in illness and in exercise, and how that's reduced by whey and selenium. Two of my over-40 athletes did their best racing times ever just by taking the whey and selenium. The anti-aging and nutritional components soothe bowel lining and discourages adhesion by several pathogens. The pertinent article has also been featured on my site: http://tinyurl.com/glutathione-references.html My clients use supplements whether they react or not. The reactions go away as you cure yuorself, and you can add more foods in. Inulin is the foremost supplement to correct the cause of leaky gut syndrome (dysbiosis). It has even been used in acute dysbiosis cases in rest homes to reduce clostridia infection. You can't have a normal resilient bowel culture without inulin in any case; I'm treating another case of enteritis right now with inulin and I'm sending the client to the health shop to make sure she buys some and keeps taking it. At your age you're probably low, as the majority of elders are, in HCl production in the stomach and in enzyme/bile production. Both are augmented as necesssary to improve digestion, particularly oils digestion. Some of my clients are using BlockBuster AllClear to reduce existing plaque and clots, coagulating blood and fibrosis; It contains three fibrinolytics, a proteolytic, and it also contains lipase, a fat reducing enzyme. It would help with age-related microcirculatory issues, fibroids, adhesions, and the main cause of death in the elderly, renal failure due to fibrosis. Notice how the anti-candida cpproach is so similar to a simple anti-aging approach? That's because of the low carbing. If low-carbing was compulsory, we'd probably have a third of the illness we do and would only need a quarter the medical system all good, Duncan all good, Duncan > > Hello, > I just recently joined the group and wanted to ask about a specific issue that surfaced for me recently. Guest guest
Agree with on going gluten-free. A person with candida should be gluten- and CARB-free or close to it or she'll still probably get gluten reaction. Candida markedly aggravates celiac and there's a lot of reason and data to support that candida CAUSES permanent celiac disease. Low-carbing it is -- even for me, and I'm not celiac. A loaf of bread lasts 2-3 months in our house; we thaw two slices at a time for a binge. all good, Duncan > > Carolin, > After reading your symptoms again, I encourage you to be gluten free for a couple of months. Since I have been in this battle for long, I am aware of what can be done to get the things under control. > . > >
Guest guest
Hi Duncan, Thanks for the information. For sure, if you met me on the street you would not think me 65. I think we all age differently. I am a scholar of metaphysics and have come to understand more of the limits we impose via the our belief in concepts of aging and degeneration. Now, that's another subject altogether. :-) Until this recent flare up of candida, I was taking the following nutrients. I am now giving my body a rest, and will resume my protocol: * Reservatrol * Super Absorbable COQ10 * Mega GLA * Life Extension Mix (state of the art multi-nutrient formula) * L-Glutamine * Theanine * Epicor (powerful Immune Stimulant) * Gamma Tocotrienols/ Tocopherols * Super Curcumin * Vitamin D3 with Sea Iodine * Cognitex (Neuro protection complex) * Acetyl L-Carnitine * Advanced Lipid Control * Extra Magenesium * Super Omega 3 * Mushrooms (Immune Support) * Cinsulin (Glucose Mgmt) * Bone Restore (Joint Function) * Optimized L-Tryptophan Most of these products are distributed by Life Extension. I was taking Growth Hormone Nighttime formula, but stopped because I don't do well with some of the proteins. I seem to be parasympathetic dominant, and develop low blood sugar, etc. I was also subsidizing my diet with Whey protein shakes after working out. Glad to get your feedback. If you should visit the Life Extension website, and review the Life Extension Mix formula, you will see that I am getting an abundance of minerals and other nutrients. Thanks for the thoughtful response. Kind Regards, Carolyn > > > > Hello, > > I just recently joined the group and wanted to ask about a specific issue that surfaced for me recently. Guest guest
Few questions, Duncan: 1. I know low carbing has been shown to put people into ketosis, as does starvation. I also know that caloric restriction is one of the surest shots at life extension. Do you know of any study that links low carbing to having similar life extension benefits? 2. Since starting low carb, I have had a relatively high meat intake averaging at least a half lb a day (may not sound like alot, but I do not cook it very long). How much meat do you consume/do you think should be consumed optimally? 3. I know it has been discussed before, so don't answer if you feel it's wasting your time, but what is wrong with taking n-acetyl-cysteine to boost glutathione? greg h. > > Agree with on going gluten-free. Guest guest
Carolyn, Quinoa and ALL grains contradict the anti-candida diet. The kefir the jury's still out on because nobody knows what probiotics you are using there. Try yogurt as well; maybe the Activia Challenge. all good, Duncan > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > > > I just recently joined the group and wanted to ask about a > specific issue that surfaced for me recently. Guest guest
Hi Greg; low carbing is the removal of carb-heavy foods, which in my mind is not the same as caloric restriction, which as you said puts the body into ketosis. Outlawing starches, sugar and grains does not produce ketosis. Consider it a Prehistoric diet. So, we're not on the same topic with that. I've been following caloric restriction science but I don't want to be gaunt like a long-distance runner, and without reserves, so I won't do it, but I will do low-carbing. One study comes to mind is the mouse study in which mice lived some 50% longer. I would be absolutely sure to supplement and use high nutrient density foods with that. Even prehistoric man had nothing like an optimal diet. If you want to know details about putting oneself into ketosis, the body builders are the ones to watch. I recall a detailed approach that reliably puts one into ketosis in days and holds one there until he's satisfied with the " ripped " look before an event. I would use the material to form my own plan. I eat about 6-8 oz meat (wet weight) plus an ounce or more of whey powder(dry weight). I put the NAC info up as a separate tread. All good, Duncan > > Few questions, Duncan: > > 1. I know low carbing has been shown to put people into ketosis, as does starvation. Guest guest
Thanks for the informative replies, Duncan. I know caloric restriction is different from carb restriction, but ketosis seems to be a normal part, and an issue of high debate, of the initial stages of the atkins diet, which is essentially extremely low carb. From what I have read, it sounds like by the time your body gets to using fat as it's main energy source due to a complete lack of carbs, you are in ketosis. I was just curious about how the state of ketosis relates to life extension. If that is the case, maybe insulin levels have some significant impact on life span? greg h. > > > > Few questions, Duncan: > > > > 1. Guest guest
Duncan, I didn't know that all grains were contraindicated in the anti-candida diet. I thought grains such as quinoa and cream of buckwheat were OK. It is interesting that the Body Ecology diet stresses lots of grains. Can you share the principles of how this work? Is it that the body's ability to digest the grain layers is compromised? I just need to understand the underlying principles. Dr. Crook indicates grains can be eaten, but cautiously. I have not had any problems processing quinoa, which is the one that I tend to eat occasionally. For the most part, I consume fresh veggies and eggs for breakfast. Regarding yogurt, I thought that was not good during the acute stages of candida because it is still derived from milk (and milk by products). What about the principle of lactose sugar feeding yeast? Duncan, I appreciate your feedback. But, at the end of the day, aren't we all unique in terms of how our bodies interact with certain foods? That's sort of my perspective. This forum presents many options for healing, and we have to process all of the principles in ways that work for us. Take care, and keep the feedback coming. I am disciplined enough to give up anything that is unhealthy. The one thing I really miss is my morning coffee. That has been a real struggle, but I have endured.
