Guest guest
http://aac.asm.org/cgi/content/full/46/11/3591 This article is about how effective is Caspofungin penetrating candida biofilms but there is important information that we should know. First, candida biofilms are present in most candida infections. (mucousal or in contact with devices. The article also speaks about how the azole drugs and Amp B fail to penetrate candida biofilms. The article speaks how Caspofungin is Fungicidal. (that is what we need) Unfortunately, the azoles are Fungistatic in the doses we can tolerate. Another point is how the Echinocandins (Miconazole, Cancidas, and Anidulafungin) target the 1.3 Beta D Glucan which is the main componet of the fugus cell wall (60%) We, humans, don't have Glucan in our cells, So, therapies like this don't affect our cell integrity. This isn't possible using the azoles ( Ketoconazole, Fluconazole, Itraconazole, Voriconazole, and Posoconazole) which attack Ergosterol very similar to Cholesterol the main part of our cells. Going to the point, How can we think that using any Azole, which are fungistatics, (don't kill), have poor Biofilm penetration, we can't take them in high doses because our sell could be also damaged, we can eradicate a candida infection??? Also, they aren't totally broad spectrum against all candida strains. See how many limitations. This is the reason because you find many people telling Rx drugs did nothing for them. See the other part, Echinocandins, are Fungicidal against most candida strains (kill). Less toxic to the humans because they target something we don't have in our cells and they penetrate Biofilms a lot better than other antifungals. I am almost sure if we could have Oral versions available, most of us could be candida free. Do your own conclusions. Still, we can use some substances to disrupt biofilms and allow our limited weapons to do their job better. I will post what we can do according to the available information.
