Guest guest
Have you see a gastro and ruled out celiac disease? A simple blood test will show if you have the antibodies typical to the disease. It is an inability to digest gluten in wheat, rye, sometimes oats, but not corn. If so, there are celiac lists on the net that can help you with information. Helen
Guest guest
Hi Ruth Ann, You sound similar to me. I do better with eating fruits, veggies, grass fed meats, eggs, coconut and olive oil. Accidentally (we know there are no accidents with God!) the lab tested me for celiac on my last endoscopy and it tested negative for celiac yet when I eat wheat or oat, my digestive system has a problem with it. My gastro's theory (this is why he makes the big bucks!) if you eat it and it doesn't agree with you, don't eat it (he gave the example of being able to drink whiskey when you are young but can't when you get older!)! I got a good chuckle over that one. He is the same man that said, if you know you are going to a party, take the purple pill! I digress, sorry. What helped me before was going on a 6 month no gluten diet and see how you do. You might also try to take some milk thistle or a good liver cleanse system. Some schools of thought are that eczema is a symptom of your liver being overloaded. I believe that to be the case because when I have used a good liver program, my eczema went away! It may also be leaky gut. I am trying to figure out if I have that. Where over the years, I have developed sensitivites to certain foods and what I read about leaky gut sounds like what I have but yours may be different. If you do a google on that, you would be able to compare your symptoms to see if you agree. But a low carbohydrate diet will most likely help you in either case. Sounds like you are eating great already so keep up the good work! Don't know if that helps any but there are realllly smart people here so you should get some good answers to your post. Guest guest
Tina, Thanks for your support and all the great info. I am trying to find a doctor who can test me. I live in Livingston, NJ, so if anyone knows of a good doc in my area I would appreciate the name. I feel very limited with the foods I currently eat. In the cold weather I tend to make vegetable soups and have been experimenting with adding either Lentils, brown rice, quinoa or potatos. But now it sounds like potatos are a definite no-no. I am still not sure about the lentils, brown rice or quinoa. Are these high in yeast, carbs or sugars? I typically have a salad for dinner with Romaine lettuce and spinich. I add things like hearts of palm, olives, dried cranberries, tomatos and goat cheese. I use only apple cider vinegar, as I heard that was beneficial. Everything seems controversial. I will occasionally (2-3 times a month) have brown rice pasta which seems to be a better alternative to any type of wheat pasta, but I am still not sure if that is okay. I digressed over X-mas and ate real pasta on x-mas eve and stuffing and cake on x-mas and I am still suffering. My lips swelled up and are still dry and peeling and very sensitive and I developed a small eczema like rash on my hands. I have been trying to limit all carbs since then, but my body is responding very slowly. A short relapse of judgement and I am paying for it now. I am still confused about what foods have gluten...most packages don't seem to include gluten on the label. I am glad I joined this board and will begin reading as much as I can. Until then, I will continue to limp by. Thanks again.
