Guest guest
Cocoa powder should be fine as long as it is sugar free and low carb. Guest guest
I don't know of a general guide. I try to stay below 8 to 10 and the lower the better. For example I get low-carb ketchup which only has 1 gram of carbs and no sugar. I think regular ketchup has 4 grams but also contains some sugar. One tbsp cocoa powder has 3-4 grams but a cup has abt 48. Cooking will often increase the number of carbs in a food. A cup of raw broccoli has about 5 grams and a cup cooked about 8 grams. One cup of raw spinach has about 1 gram, but cooked has about 7. I don't calculate all my foods because I pretty much know what veggies are low carb and I just stay away from the high-carb ones. If I'm thinking of trying something new I just check that it's low in carbs and either sugar-free or very low sugar. For example I just started using some cream cheese occasionally which has 2 grams carbs and 2 grams sugar. I try to stay away totally from any amount of sugar, but this little bit in the cream cheese seems to be ok - and it tastes yummy along with butter mashed in with cauliflower HTH Gail > > Hi Gail, > > Thank you for that. (Dog poop and cyanide are "natural) I use NOW brand Raw, organic cocoa and am happy with it. I also grind raw cocoa nibs into my own cocoa powder in the Vitamix, when I can get my hands on true raw ones that haven't been "bathed" in some swill that I don't want. Guest guest
I've never used Scharffen Berger cocoa but I know it's not Dutched and it's supposed to be good: http://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=3176203 & prrfnbr=3237557 . You don't want to go to insane with price, though, if you're just using it for smoothies. If you plan to bake, make cocoa, etc., check out my favorite if you can squeeze it into your budget: http://www.ultimatesuperfoods.com/ItemDetail.aspx?comcode=FD & plinid=CACPOA & item=CPWHF16O & type=sc & plnmain=CACAO . A pound could last a long time. Cocoa Powder I want to make the Chocolate Smoothie does anyone know where I could buy natural cocoa powder? and has anyone tried this recipe? thanks. Guest guest
I got two bags for $21.73 and no shipping or tax at http://amzn.to/eQ05tL It's too much caffeine for me though so I got some carob. I haven't used much of either but have some recipes in mind. I will use half of each. I do the same thing with honey and agave in a few recipes. > > I want to make the Chocolate Smoothie does anyone know where I could buy natural cocoa powder? and has anyone tried this recipe? thanks. > > Chocolate Smoothie > > Serves: 2 — Prep Time: 5 minutes > > Ingredients > > 5 ounces organic baby spinach > 2 cups frozen blueberries > 1/2 cup soy milk > 1 medium banana > 2 medjool dates or 4 deglet noor dates > 2 tablespoons of natural cocoa powder > 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds > > Directions > > Blend all ingredients together in a high powered blender until smooth and creamy. > > One Serving Contains: > CALORIES: 276.2 > PROTEIN: 8.1g > CARBOHYDRATE: 58.8g > FAT: 4.8g > SODIUM: 93.4mg >
