Guest guest
Yes it is supposed to improve thyroid function. Also selenium, zinc helps too. > candidiasis > Date: Tuesday, March 18, 2008, 11:09 PM > Does coconut oil affect your thyroid?????????? > Edy , who is on Thyroid meds and cocnut oil ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Too much thyroid hormone floating around? What would the side effects of that be? Hyperactivity, sweating, nervousness, etc.? If she is feeling that way, then I would definately rule out being overmedicated with thryoid meds. Guest guest
The hypo and hyper feeling can be a sign of hashimotos. Often at the start of hashimotos there is a hyperthyroid feeling of being wired. It can come and go. When it first happened to me my doctor, thought I was just stressed out and recommended some rest. Do try to get tested and get a free tsh t3 t4 test. The wired feeling could also be the result of adrenal fatigue. I'm no authority and for sure some other more knwledgable list members could fill in the blanks for me. Hope this is helpful and I wish you well, > From: Edy Dykstra-Blum <bizzeeboots@...> > Subject: Re: Need help... Guest guest
Edy, IMHO, this could mean a few things. You are over ramping your thyroid. If you checked your tsh, t3, t4 levels you would have a better idea of if you're levels are getting too low. This happened to me in the two months that passed after I left our moldly house for a somewhat better apartment while our home is being remediated. My tsh levels went from 4.13 to .320. My doc immediately lowered my dose. I was having the stressed out symptoms and also low energy. The only change that occured was leaving our home. So, if you had your levels checked you might have a better clue as to what was happening. You could also be having problems if you have adrenal fatigue. If you do, adding coconut oil to the synthroid dose would start increasing your thyroid function and metabolism and by doing too much at a time, you could further stress your adrenals. If you have adrenal fatigue, you need to work at reducing your tsh levels more slowly than you would if you just had thyroid issues. Coconut oil is great stuff, but if you're going to use it, you need to work with your doc on regulating your syntroid dose. The adrenal issues can be addressed by looking at Dr. 's book " Adrenal Fatigue " . You can also google his name or the book title and it will take you to his website. Also, try " www.drrind.com " . He has good info on thyroid and adrenals. Again, I'm no expert and other more experienced list members may be able to clarify or correct any suggestions I have. But I would make a more regualr effort to have my thyroid tested properly if i were you. Otherwise, you have no clue as to what uis going on and if what you're doing is hleping or hurting. Be well, > From: Edy Dykstra-Blum <bizzeeboots@...> > Subject: Re: Need help... Guest guest
Many people here suffer with adrenal and thyroid issues. Other than 's book, what others would all of you recommend? Most of what I'm hearing on other groups is that with Hashimoto's people need to have their TSH suppressed as low as possible without going hyperthyroid, in order to suppress the antibodies. Would you feel this is wrong or unnecessary? Reply off list is ok, if this is too far OT for this list. thanks, sol
Guest guest
Buddy, Safe Uses of Cortisol by McK. Jefferies (cheapest from the publisher C ) (intended for doctors so not a fast read, LOL) The Hormone Solution by Thierry Hertoghe, M.D. Pets at Risk by Alfred J. Plechner, DVM (has a lot of info that is also pertinent to humans) Hypothyroidism: the Unsuspected Illness by Broda Your Thyroid and How to Keep it Healthy by Barry Durrant-Peatfield Feeling Fat, Fuzzy, or Frazzled by Karilee Shames The last two come very highly recommended but I've just ordered them and have not read them yet. And I haven't ordered the Broda book yet, but it also is very highly recommended on thyroid lists. And a favorite: The Metabolic Treatment of Fibromyalgia by C. Lowe. D.C. (he feels nearly all fibro and chronic fatigue are untreated or undertreated hypothyroidism) This is a 1260 pg textbook, not light reading, LOL. Also the online sites Stop the Thyroid Madness (thyroid and adrenal info) and Shomon's thyroid site at about.com Dr. C. Lowe's Thyroid Science http://www.thyroidscience.com/ sol Buddy A. Guest guest
The Metabolic Treatment of Fibro looks pretty good. I was just reading through some of the interviews about the book. I think I might put up the 100 bucks and see what it is about. Anyone here read it and follow the protocols with success. Guest guest
Sol, I'm not techically in the hyperthyproid stage of hashitmotos anymore. I don't want my tsh as high as the 4.13. I wasn't suggesting that. I don't have the test here, but it went to just at the bottom of normal and very close to the hyper level in a mere 7 weeks. To me this was over a 100% change and that is a bit drastic and did overstress my system a bit. I was, if my fuzzy memory serves, pointing out how one needs to keep testing thyroid levels to keep track of your progress which can be affected by a many different circmumstances environmental and otherwise. I was referring to the dose level I was on while in the moldy home I was living in. And how after some weeks of being in a temporary place while we proceeded with work on the house to repair it, that my tsh dramatically dropped and did cause some hyperthyroid type feelings ranging from rapid heart rate, arythmias, lack of sleep, feeling wired, exhausted, wasted etc. I also, I think addressed (if not I should have) that too swift a change in thyroid level can also stress the adrenals. Point again being that periodic testing is vital. Sorry if I wasn't more clear. We are in the midst of giant trials trying to get our home salvaged and keep my medical care up. It's an ordeal that's been going on for almost two years, so I'm no doubt a wee bit foggy and spread out. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I'll definately look it over. On Dr. Lowe's site, there is a link to research showing that up to 80% of subjects with fibro also had signs of hypothyroidism. I have a feeling for some people it possible an HGH issues, for others glutathione issues, adrenal issues, thyroid issues, etc., and probably for most people with fibro, more than one of the above. I've been reading a lot about hormone testing and balancing (Dr. Lee's info). That looks promising as well. Guest guest
This was my experience as Duncan describes. I had a whole bunch of blood panels done (including thyroid) before starting my candida diet, and then had my levels retested after a year on the diet strictly. My thyroid levels normalized and I believe they improved more than 2 or 3 points if I recall correctly. Luv, Debby in San , CA 147 pounds lost! 100% of health issues reversed! Group: curingcandida/ Website: http://www.naturallythriving.com Currently studying for Nutrition license and PhD in Psychology ----- Original Message ---- From: Duncan Crow Thanks for that, Buddy; low thyroid might well be conected to a high- carb diet. Seeing people feel better with diet alone indicated to me that they were probably driving their HGH and thyroid low and cortisol high, much as we see with " adrenal fatigue " which also responds to diet. Nonetheless, no elderly individual has youthful HGH release. Duncan
