Guest guest
GMO's are not currently allowed in foods labelled Organic. Lobbyists tried to change that, but so far, I believe they have not been successful. I have read that organic fields and GMO fields can and often are be side by side. I have read some opinions that GMO genes are now found in nearly all crops, organic or not. This is something that simply cannot be contained in the real world? sol

Guest guest
Hi Jen, Here's some articles from the Organic Consumers Association that should answer some of your questions. Rodale Institute is always a plethora of knowledge on Organics and GMOs, I was first alerted to GMO's way back in the 90's when I subscribed to their Organic Gardening magazine(excellent resource for gardeners BTW). If you are truly concerned about consuming GMOs , I would recommend that you need to be really specific about where your food is coming from. I would also suggest farmers markets whenever possible, or a reliable local Co-Op ,(not Whole Foods type markets which are usually overpriced and less local anyway). It's just not enough to buy ORGANIC any more, especially since Big Agro is jumping on the bandwagon to make more profits. Know your farmer, or better yet, grow it yourself! beyond that there is always Political Action which I've included as well. Obama has promised to make GMO labeling mandatory in the US, follow the third link and sign the petition to make sure he keeps his promise. Thanks for the interesting topic. Guest guest
yes, you're absolutely right, non-GMO crops are contaminated by nearby fields. i don't think you can contain them. so, yeah, you never know what you're eating. but as jen said, farmer's markets, and also, homegrown, with organic seeds, would be the safest bets. it's a crazy world.-- On Thu, 1/8/09, sol <solbun@...> wrote: From: sol <solbun@...> Subject: Re: GMO's negative effects on humans & animals candidiasis Date: Thursday, January 8, 2009, 11:01 PM Myslis wrote: > GMO's are not currently allowed in foods labelled Organic.
