Hi Alobar,

Reduce the dose if you must but remember that we're trying to make up

a difference of about 12 grams of inulin. It is a soluble fiber.

Perhaps you don't need your fiber blend but you do need the inulin ;)

By the way there is another inulin source. I'm told Fruitafit long-

chain sugar-free inulin is twice the price as mine.

Duncan:

I have NOW Probiotic Defense which contains Chicory Root Inulin/Fos, is that

okay?

I guess that won't be enough Inulin, so if I take some extra Inulin, do I do it

at the same meal, where I'm taking the Defense or does it matter?

There is also another product by NOW GR8-Dophilus with FOS.

Are they both good?

Thanks,

Bonnie

Both Now products are fine, but bear in mind that you're growing

probiotics with the inulin, and the transient bacteria and yeast will

be relatively ineffective when the bifidobacteria population rises.

For that reason I prefer GR-8 to Probiotic Defense.

Duncan:

You didn't reply to wether I take the Inulin at the same meal? So 1/2 before a

meal, I'll take the GR-8, then do I take the Inulin (small amount of start with)

at the end of the meal or when?

Thanks,

Bonnie

Sorry, Bonnie; the inulin can be taken any time; with the probiotic

puts the food in proximity. By the way, high-dosing on the probiotic

by using perhaps 20 capsules will provide a faster start to the

recolonization, but you don't really need probiotics for this.

Come again? 20 pills will provide faster colonization but I don't need

Probiotics for this? I'm a bit slow this morning.

20 probiotic pills is enough to colonize about 40 grams of dry fecal

matter if the probiotic bacterial count is 50% out. While the

probiotic can be seen as boosting a proposed starter culture, the

main work will be done by feeding the starter culture of

bifidobacteria and to a lesser extent, lactobacilli that you already

posess in your bowel.

The focus on probiotics as a cure is only marketing for a non-

essential but occasionally useful product.

On the other hand the inulin can be seen to be an essential food;

inulin is much lower in the modern diet than historically, before the

bowel disorders epidemic.

yes, Alobar, depending on concentration of course, you can get up to

about 3 grams of inulin in a strong chicory coffee.

Chicory coffee contains inulin but Bonnie's right, it is one of the

strongest sources of carcinogenic acrylamide; instant is worse, and

instant chicory coffee with caramelized grain is the worst on the list.

Thanks Duncan. I can say Chicory Coffee can cause Cancer, but unless YOU say it,

no one listens.

Looks like New Orleans' reputation for incredibly unhealthy food

remains intact.
