It is a yogurt-type dairy product which contains certain beneficial bacteria for regulating bowel flora. The claim is that if you use Activia for 14 days, your bowel flora balance will get better...they call it the 14-day Activia challenge. It is widely available in mainstream grocery stores, so I decided to try it. After 8 days, I can report that it seems to be doing something. I have discovered many weird things coming out in my stool - makes me think of the person who wrote in a day or two ago with the pictures of stuff that came out in their stool - it looks very similar to what I am getting. I captured some of it today, and it is whitish, in long and thin strands. My stool has been laced with it for the past two days, I am taking it to my lab today to have a look under magnification. Now, I have been having a bout of liver activity also - bad pains across my back and right shoulder - and I understand this to be gallbladder. So, I have also been taking lots of lemon water, and doing the rebounder, so maybe the stuff coming out may have something to do with that, also. I also had been taking inulin, but stopped when the liver congestion got so bad. I was so bloated up, I could not eat hardly anything for three days. Don't know...but I wonder if this product may also be having a good effect...? So much mystery in the bowel...I wish there was a way to know these things without so much experiementation. In any event, I am thrilled to be getting rid of whatever this is, and wonder if anyone else has tried this product, and what their experience is... Guest guest
I checked the Activa ingredients. In the " light " , there were 8 g of sugar from sucralose. In the regular, there are 16 or 17 g and fructose and sugar are the sweeteners...in the top 3 oveall ingredients. In trying to avoid sweets, this product doesn't seem too helpful. But comments on sucrolose or other benefits would be interesting. shalom, diane Receive Emails On Topics That Interests You And Get Paid For It! $10 Sign Up Bonus! http://hits4pay.com/members/index.cgi?dmj<http://hits4pay.com/members/index.cgi?\ dmj>
Guest guest
The sugar was something of a concern, but when I am expelling this kind of weird stuff on a daily basis now, I can't help but think that it is a good thing, and that the good outweighs the bad. Also, I think some sugar should not be a deal-killer when one has a well-functioning gut. Again today, just a lot of white, mucous-like stuff, with a ton of these white, wormy-looking things, mixed in with the regular-looking fecal matter (Sorry!) I bought more of it for the next round, and found the " light " version with the sucralose added, instead of sugar. So, time will tell on that, as today will be my first dose of it. Incidentally, I have been plagued with candida skin rashes now for almost 2 years, and I can say that the rashes are nearly gone, and the most recent rashes on my fingers and hands are disappearing - fast! Something good is happening with me, and I am thrilled over it. Is it the Activia? I cannot be sure, but it is the most recent thing I have tried, and I have never gotten this level of gut cleansing before...as i said, I am also doing the rebounder daily now, and also have reintroduced zapping, with a ton of lemon water also. I am eating as much organic vegetables and apples as I can, and staying away from everything else while all of this is going on... I have long suspected that the cure for all of this would be found by treating the gut, and if only I could get the right flora in there, I would do better. In the ads for Activia, they ask you to take the " Activia challenge, " for 14 days. And they guarantee success. Now, I am not going to try to get my money back, should this not work, but I thought it was a strong statement to make, and that is what prompted me to try it. Also, it is made by Dannon, which is a name I have always associated with a good product. Just FYI for all... Health and Blessings to all...maryjo --------------------------------- Shape in your own image. Join our Network Research Panel today! Guest guest
Sounds great! However, if the probiotic content is what is helping you, why not just go with a quality probiotic supplement and avoid all of the other excess ingredients? Guest guest
Dear Buddy, Well, I have been taking probiotics for the longest time, and also recently have started plain kefir as well. For all I know, some of that has had a cumulative effect and is all starting to work together now. Maybe the Activia just gave my body a kick-start...I wish I knew. It is interesting to me that I am also having - continuing to have - a lot of gallbladder and liver pains, and I just feel that it is related to what I am seeing coming out, too. I took milk thistle for the longest time, too, and a few weeks ago, I started having what I thought was a muscle pull in my hip, so went to see the chiropractor. Right after that, the liver pains started in earnest, and I now wonder whether his adjustment started something up in there. It is all very mysterious to me, unfortunately. I hate this kind of mysetry, as I am not totallty sure that I am doing well. I feel pain from whatever is blocking my gallbladder, but on the other hand, I am shedding all these parasitic-looking things from my gut, and experiencing a lessening of skin rash problems. But I feel cold, and not altogether well since this issue from my gut. But another thing that is improving is my tongue, which used to be chronically whitish, and quite deeply fissured. Those fissures appear to be closing, and I have a much healthier pinkish-red color to my tongue. Like I said, I have been doctoring myself for almost two years now. The thing that attracted me to the Activia was that they say - " if it doesn't work, your money back " - that says to me that there has been some research done on this product, and this " bifidus regularus " which is in the activia, has produced some beneficial results somewhere...but I have been doing lots of things for a long time - and it has been slow going. Maybe it is a matter of a cumulative effect. I know that eventually, whatever is causing the pain will leave. I also know that the liver is regenerative, and so I have great optimism for a healthy outcome there. I am going to continue with the 14 days, and see what else happens...in the meantime, I am also starting to really concentrate on reflexology points on my hands and feet as well, to send energy to the liver and the bowel. The beat goes on!!! maryjo --------------------------------- Boardwalk for $500? In 2007? Ha! Play Monopoly Here and Now (it's updated for today's economy) at Games. Guest guest
Good luck and let us know how it all turns out. By the way, were you avoiding dairy prior to starting the Activia? Guest guest
No, I have never given up on dairy, I use milk in coffee, and take plain yogurt and plain kefir as well - occasionally butter. I have never felt that I needed to stop using these things, although I know that other candida sufferers claim this is the thing to do. I also did whey and inulin for quite awhile, but it made me feel so full and bloated that I gradually stopped it...I am so tired of feeling that way. I first stopped the whey, then later on, the inulin, just before I started the Activia. I did a little research on " bifidus regularus " yesterday - a little late, but it suddenly occurred to me to do that. Turns out that this organism is something of a " designer organism, " patented by Dannon. It is supposedly totally benign, suitable even for children and the elderly. It's main feature is that it is impervious to stomach acids, and is delivered to the gut intact to do its work, but it does not attach to the gut, and does not live there once introduced. One has to keep taking it for it to work...hence, the 14-day idea. And they also say that one has to keep taking it afterwards for one to see continuing benefit. The other claim is that it reduces the transit time for food to pass through the gut. It supposedly populates the gut so quickly that it effectively ovepowers any bad bugs, and this may explain the sudden purge... I tried to find a link with Activia/parasites, but could find none. However, the stuff coming out in my stool is definitely something that looks parasitic to me, and I can think of nothing else that would explain this sudden purging. Today, I am re-thinking whether I should continue the 14-days, as I had a great deal of bloating last night, and cramping in my gut. Again this morning, more of the nasty white stuff. Less than the past few days, but nonetheless, still coming out. I think I may need a rest for my innards. Or, maybe I should just power through and get it done asap... My digestion continues to be good - like clockwork - and I have a reasonable appetite now. Trying to stay only with fibrous vegetables, and apples, plus lots of lemon water. The liver pain is just about gone, and that is a blessing for me today. But interestingly enough, right after I got through telling you how my skin rash was better, yesterday I had a flare-up in the old familiar spots - armpits and fingers. Die-off? Could be... I have a suspicion that I have had these parasites for a long time - maybe decades. Some were quite large - over an inch - oh, YUK!!! Thanks for listening to this long story...I only hope it might be helpful to someone else out there. I am at a loss to explain any of it, really. I am glad to be rid of whatever the wormy-looking things are, but feeling a bit under-par and headachy. Onward...maryjo --------------------------------- Got a little couch potato? Guest guest
Hi Jo I have had good experiences with Activia. I have lyme disease and suffer from frequent colds and viruses. I have found that when I take activia regularly it really helps my immune system fight these virus. I also have candida and when I first took activia I herxed for a few days. Luckily in the UK we can get plain activia without sugar in it. Activia does seem to pack a punch for some reason. Wether it has a high bacterial count or is just a useful strain I don't know Activia Dear Listmates, I just wanted to share an experience I am having with a product called Activia.
