Guest guest
Hi Duncan Is there any alcohol that is better than the others to have? I know my father (as a diabetic) was told to drink whiskey as it is lowest in sugar levels. Keen Re: Candida myth busted: alcohol-using candida The potential for alcohol to materially increase bacterial count before it absorbs into your system is fairly low; I don't see a reason not to have those two glasses of red wine. There might be no negative effect at all in SIBO of the lower 1/2 to 3/4 of the small intestine, where it's most likely to be, or the bowel where the leaky gut is most likely to be, because the alcohol won't get that far down the tract. How much it irritates if any depends on how badly the lining is already irritated. QUOTE: " The amount of alcohol in the blood reaches its highest level about 60 minutes after drinking. However, food in the stomach may increase the amount of time it takes for the blood alcohol to reach its highest level. Guest guest
Sure low sugar is better, but a dry red wine is better for him than whiskey. Guest guest
Why would that be - because it is less corrosive? Thanks Keen Re: Candida myth busted: alcohol-using candida Sure low sugar is better, but a dry red wine is better for him than whiskey. Guest guest
Tena, many people respond to toxin load by retaining fat and water, and the good, or at least improved, diet associated with your candida die-off should eventually get you to an ideal body mass index. That being said, if you want to continue losing weight or do it more quickly or in a more healthy way, use undenatured whey and selenium, which stimulates metabolism to put lean tissue on and burn more fat. The glutathione produced will also help you detoxify and thus lose more water weight. Using inulin helps reduce toxin production in the bowel and because it also helps normalize glucose levels it is a metabolic enhancer too. The low-carb diet and ample water and minerals with that should be pretty obvious. Guest guest
Tena, I forgot to mention specifically two big factors in weight loss besides exercise; potassium supplements reduce water weight (edema) and cod-liver oil's EPA and DHA normalizes cell membranes so is a metabolic increaser. Further the omega-3's reduce inflammation, which could easily amount to a few pounds in a lot of people. Here's a great omega-3 to add to the cod-liver-oil that reduces inflammation even better: http://www.aor.ca/related_research/lyprinol.php Duncan > > > > > > > > > > Hi Duncan > > > > > > > > > > So can any of the other bacteria in the body use alcohol as > food? > > > > > > > > > > Keen > > > > > A few organisms that produce the necessary enzyme ethanol > oxidase > > > > > may convert alcohol to acetic acid, which is actually > > > beneficial; > > > > > most others use another enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase, and > > > produce > > > > > acetaldehyde, an irritant and bowel/rectal carcinogen. I get extremely bloated then, double the amount of bloating that I get on a regular basis due to Candida. Guest guest
Now I am concerned. I've lost 25 lbs on the Candida diet and am down to practically skin & bones. I didn't need to lose any weight though 5 or 10 lbs would have been ok. I'm expecting my undenatured way & inulin to come tomorrow. Is this going to make me lose more weight? I cannot afford to lose anymore. I'd like to know what I can do to gain at least 8-10 lbs back! Guest guest
Thank you so very much for all your amazing info, Duncan!!!! I was on the candida low carb diet for 3 months without losing any weight and being very constipated and since starting the undenatured whey at the beginning of Nov. and the selenium a week ago I've lost 10 lbs. Since starting the selenium last week, I haven't been constipated at all!!!! and my diet hasn't been perfect this past week, either. WOW! I wish I had started this from the beginning!!!! I feel wonderful, too!!!! Thanks again!!! > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Duncan > > > > > > > > > > > > So can any of the other bacteria in the body use alcohol as > > food? > > > > > > > > > > > > Keen > > > > > > A few organisms that produce the necessary enzyme ethanol > > oxidase > > > > > > may convert alcohol to acetic acid, which is actually > > > > beneficial; > > > > > > most others use another enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase, and > > > > produce > > > > > > acetaldehyde, an irritant and bowel/rectal carcinogen. Guest guest
Gail, as you have seen, when you are emaciated under the fat, i.e. small muscled, when the body loses the fat, you look pretty thin. An attribute of undenatured whey, which is listed the Physicians Desk Reference for the purpose, is that it increases mainly lean tissue, not fat. This means it increases not only muscle mass and tone but also organ mass and function. Body builders use up to about 160 grams of undenatured whey daily in staggered doses to bulk up; they do not get fat on it. Duncan > > Now I am concerned. Guest guest
I recommend a look at potassium intake with the view that most people are deficient. Balance is important whether one menstruates or not. On the face of it I think yes you would probably benefit from potassium supps, bearing in mind that a LITTLE PMS bloating is appropriate and extreme bloating is not. Guest guest
You're welcome for the info . You're fortunate to have found this candida group; unlike this or nearly every other health group you could have joined, a certain myth- oriented candida group discourages selenium supplementation, undenatured whey, potassium, inulin, all of which can be profoundly helpful and a health regimen can be much less effective without them. The nip of alcohol we've found we can have is just a bonus. That being said I wouldn't have expected the undenatured whey would be instrumental in bowel regularity. Guest guest
I think it's important to make the distinction of 200-400 MCG of selenium, not mg, which of course is a fatal dose The undenatured whey choice is important; the glutathione-precursor components of whey are discussed on my site here so you can do the math and compare them: http://tinyurl.com/cuzcc Some people make the distinction of using a non-hydrolyzed undenatured whey like Jarrow because it will contain no MSG.
