Making Money Off The HCV Community

Show Me The Money

One Huge Warning

Colloidal silver

..

Marketing Claims for Colloidal SilverColloidal silver products are often marketed as dietary supplements with various unproven health-related claims. For example, advertisements may claim that the products benefit the immune system; kill disease-causing agents such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi; serve as an alternative to prescription antibiotics; or treat diseases such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, tuberculosis, syphilis, scarlet fever, shingles, herpes, pneumonia, and prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate). And HCV.

..

Colloidal silver can cause serious side effects. One is argyria, a bluish-gray discoloration of the body. Argyria is not treatable or reversible.

,

..

, Thymus extract and colloidal silver are sometimes marketed for the treatment of hepatitis C, but there is currently no research to support their use for this purpose. Colloidal silver products can cause serious side effects (for more information, see the NCCAM fact sheet Colloidal Silver Products).

These companies will use different avenues to sell and promote their products .

..One Testimonial or paid endorsement ?By the way, I also have Lupus - well, at least I HAD lupus. I don’t know if I even still have it. In fact, I doubt it. I think the Mesosilver probably took care of it as well because I haven’t been sick a single day since I started on the Mesosilver.Mesosilver is just fantastic. It saved my life and I recommend it to everybody!†M, 55

Those great enticing ads/endorsements are written just for us folks. The supplement industry prey on individuals suffering with a chronic illness, in our case that illness is Hepatitis C.Is It Real , Or Is It Snake Oil ??

I have to tell you that guy Duncan is not here for the love of helping others.

Its more like helping himself to your money. These scams are all over the

find yourself laughing at his claims.

The sad fact is not everyone recognizes it as

a scam. They try to sell us cures , herbs and blurbs

The Good Bad And The Ugly

A company can't sell their product unless they find an audience, but how can they do that, other then advertising ?

How about hiding behind a reputable website or blog.

,

What if you were in a habit of visiting a particular HCV website and later you realized that site was really a commercial site and in the business to make a profit.

Who Knew, Not You

A good example of this is Hepatitis Central. This site was originally created and once ran by an inspirational lady (Vicki) who was living with HCV. At its conception it was one of the few websites with information about our illness. If I remember right the site began around 1998? Hepatitis Central was an accurate informational site , filled with studies and liver/treatment information we all craved back then. I felt it was the best website on Hepatitis C and remained so for years. It still is a HCV site, but now it might have a different agenda.

..Its now in the business of selling Milk Thistle and has been for many years .

Milk Thistle certainly isn't comparable to a snake oil. Don't misunderstand my intent here

..

First a little history

Back in the day the rumor went like this.......

...

The site was purchased by a never to be named by me, Milk Thistle company for I think $10,000.00 ?.

,In truth the popular URL was purchased in order to promote and sell their product (Milk Thistle) Under the assumption the site was still : Hepatitis Central.

The previous owner announced the sale and made sure they would continue on with what she started, and in a way they have. They still keep updated with News Feeds, etc.

..The people back then involved with giving online HCV support knew Vicki to be a life saving humanitarian, we all valued and respected her.

,

Hep Central is owned and operated by a herbal company , as is their affiliate site; "Liver Support". To me its a little deceiving when the site once had the reputation of a grassroots Nonprofit HCV informational and support site. In other words it had US in mind and its sole purpose was to educate and support.

..However, with all of this said Milk Thistle is not the culprit here. Even if you lean towards FDA approved therapies, we still need to keep an open mind and read all the published information on the herb.

Milk Thistle merits more attention from the medical community. Most of us read each published study with enthusiasm

...Here is some informationHepatitis C / Milk Thistle /2010 Feb ,

..NUTRITION & HCVHowever, with so many devoted HCV websites available I find it discouraging that people who suffer with chronic HCV are being directed by search engines to commercial and profitable websites. ..

How HCV Advocates Website Began,

Establishing an Online Presence - The HCV Advocate Web Site

In 1998, HCSP determined that another unmet need for people with HCV was a Web site that focused on quality education, advocacy, and support for the HCV community. The HCV Advocate Web site began operation in January 1999. It began with a minimum of information, but grew quickly in size and content to become a valuable resource for patients and health care providers. The success of the Web site stems from the fact that HCSP constantly adds and expands the site with new educational content and tools, such as our recent addition of a Spanish section. Our HCV Advocate Medical Writers' Circle section features articles by nationally respected leaders in HCV care and research. Thanks to our ongoing growth and the valuable services we provide, Web site traffic has quickly grown to average more than 350,000 hits per week.

This site has been with me since I was first diagnosed with HCV, as was Hep Central.

When I found out I had HCV I was scared, alone and only had these two guys to turn too. They had no idea how they shaped the outcome of my disease. I went on treatment because of the information I found on HCV Advocate .

HCV Advocate is a safe and trusted website.

Before I started treatment I found this wonderful FAQ list. One of the two men who saved my life worked on this list, that was C.D. Mazoff, PhD

I would like to thank both of these two gentlemen for all the work they have done for everyone who suffers with HCV, and HBV.

Also...

There is a wonderful staff writer that has educated all of us over the years.

We have read her articles at J & F , she has done so much for the HCV community.

Thank you

Thank you also to

Liz Highleyman

She has put HCV and HIV into layman's terms which has

helped us to understand the advantages and outcome of

treatment. With all these new drugs emerging what would

we do without her extraordinary articles

Janis And Friends Website

Nonprofit -

We are committed to providing the best, up-to-date information regarding all aspects of Hepatitis C. Our goal is to help you and your loved ones become better equipped to handle this disease through support, knowledge and understanding

..

How It Began

Back in 1999 the information on Hepatitis c was scarce. I met Janis in a HCV chat room and we became fast friends. Soon she opened up J & F forum so she could visit with friends. Later , Patty, , Sue and myself among other people over the years helped to keep the forum going.

Now our friend Mike has picked up the torch. He is watching over this wonderful site.

One day back in 2000 I mentioned starting a website to Janis and she was very enthusiastic about it . She passed away before we had it up and running, the site is named in her memory.

The blog is new and came about because of the limited time I have to work on the website.
