Guest guest
Hi Trouble Welcome to the group. Im not aware of anyone getting SSI or SSDI specifically for HCV, but that doesnt mean that it is not happening. I do know that there are programs to help one while going through HCV treatment. Job related and State. Perhaps Federal too. You should call your local SS or SRS office, and ask. Your liver doctor also may be able to help you. I recieve SSI, but it is unrelated to HCV. love don in ks From: trouble <nutron4geo@...>Subject: [ ] SSD DISABILITY Date: Thursday, July 22, 2010, 10:03 PM Has anyone got disability from having hep c ?------------------------------------
Guest guest
Yes some people have, the application process can take a year or 2 and is often denied the first time. It can be very helpful to hire an advocate (a lawyer that specializes in disability - they are paid a flat fee when you receive the SSI or SSDI, the award is backdated to when you first apply - HCV Advocate site has some helpful info - here's a link to a fact sheet: http://www.hcvadvocate.org/hepatitis/factsheets_pdf/getting_db_10.pdf > > Has anyone got disability from having hep c ? >
Guest guest
Trouble, Don and Gloria and whomever else is in this position,I am receiving Social Security Disability for symptoms that lingered after my treatment was over. Even though the Hep C cleared, I was unable to work. At the time, we didn't know the cause of my problems was the Fibromyalgia. I have been receiving SSD for 3 years now consistently and they gave me a back payment to the start of the disability. It did take almost 2 years to get. I was turned down the first two times because Hep C doesn't fit nicely into their little cubby holes for disability. But, if you cannot work because of your symptoms, by all means file a claim. When it comes time for the 3rd appeal, where you go before a judge, have a social security attorney. There are attorneys that specialize in these cases and a good one can get you in front of the judge a lot faster. They all charge the same amount, it's right around 5G and it comes out of your back payment. If you lose, they get nothing so they usually will only take on cases where they think you can win. Your best bet is to call a Social Security attorney first to see if they think you have a case. And don't call the ones that advertise on TV. Get a good one. If you know of an attorney already ask him or her for a referral and they can find you one. It's not a lot, but it sure helps. Oh, and Trouble, welcome to the group. You have landed in a safe place here... ask any questions you may have, one of us should know the answer and if we don't we'll find it for you. Don has built a great library with all sorts of info on Hep C and diets and treatment and so much more. Let us know what we can do for you and we will be more than ready to help.Hugs from Gurnee,Teri From: Gloria <gadamscan@...>To: Sent: Thu, July 22, 2010 11:24:11 PMSubject: [ ] SSD DISABILITY Don and TroubleHere in Canada we could qualify for the Disability Pension if a person was literally unable to work as a result of the treatment. However, the red tape one would have to go through would be as bad as it is in the States. Of all things, I qualified for disability more because of my Fibro than the HepC. Now I'm kinda glad it was that way, because I no longer have HepC; but, I stay on for the Fibro.Gloria Hi Trouble Welcome to the group. Guest guest
My friend Deb got disability for Hep C, however, she is on a liver transplant list and because her company was paying disability to her--they had their attorneys help her with her application and appeal to social security. She was turned down on her first application. SuziQ > > Has anyone got disability from having hep c ? >
