Guest guest
<PRE>From my observation, Oprah beleives that over weight people, across the board, are using wieght and food to cover up or " fill " their deeper problems. Show Oprah an obese person, she'll see someone who needs to peel back the layers and get ot the core, and then be able to deal with the weight. But my question to Oprah would be, what about the skinny, neurotic folks? What about the skinny kids who are in abusive homes and deal with it year after year? It is much too simple to join wieght and psychological need. Seems to me everyone has had a less-than-perfect childhood, to one degree or another, and everyone needs a little more of the right kind of love and attention. " Dysfunctional " families abound. They're on every corner. So, if Oprah's theory is correct, then all of those children would grow up to become obese. And they of course do not. I think she is a light in this world, and a wonderful human. And I believe her concern is only to help. But in this case, I think she's fixated on the psychology-causes-weight-gain-theory, and I think she's wrong. When medicine begins to see obesity as an illness, genetically linked, and not as a character flaw, then the prevailing " wisdom " will teach that maybe, just maybe, being overweight is NOT a psych problem! Maybe it's physical. Then there will be progress. That's my 2 cents. PhillyJude 11-3-00 263/170 and happy!
Guest guest
Ginny, In my opinion....Oprah is all about " inner healing " . She believes you have to heal your " soul " to deal with weight issues. I love her show....but..... lisa/Michigan From: stargazer333@... I would hope she puts her 2 cents in! And I want to see this BFLer!!! ON tv! Great, thanks so much!! Guest guest
-I saw the show already and they don't even mention body for life. The lady on there just says she did a strength training and nutrition program. Oprah was still very impressed with her results and maybe that will turn into another show. It was a good Oprah show though...very motivating to stay on track. -- In , " lilstepper <LILSTEPPER@Y...> " <LILSTEPPER@Y...> wrote: > -- > Ahhhhhh thank you thank you thank you!!! I wanted her to say how wonderful and smart a choice of a program it is. Ughhhhh, I will still watch it though.... Body for life never gets the recognition it deserves on TV! Guest guest
That's weird, I wonder why she couldn't say it? Guest guest
My understanding is that they would not let Rae say " Body-for-Life " or any other names while they were filming. Maybe people will make the connection anyways. Guest guest
Probably because of her affilation with Bob Greene's program. Re: Oprah That's weird, I wonder why she couldn't say it? Guest guest
the ones that get me, and I haven't seen one lately, are the telethons. You'd think we all get everything paid for by these things. And how the parents couldn't manage without such and such. Many people think that if they just give a few dollars to this or that organization everyone is taken care of. I've heard people say, " You don't have to pay for that yourself do you? I guess maybe a few people are helped but most people DO get along with out that school or that org. And we get along fine, don't need their pity or pittance. Guest guest
you said: > " I did see the piece and was actually very dissapointed. It lasted a total of 3 minutes. It was more about the people around than of himself. " > I know this was discussed a week or two ago, I'm a little behind in reading my posts but I have to put in my .02. This piece on Oprah lasted more than 3 minutes. She showed a pre-taped piece from the HBO special, came back from commercial and they talked to the producer of the show, then and both his parents. Her segment with lasted about the length of time as alot of the other people that particular day. Of course it showed alot about the people around ...it was about inclusion. His peers accepted him, included him on the soccer team and they even " asked " for him to be included in their graduation ceremony even thought he was not ready to graduate yet. I wasn't disappointed, I bawled like a baby. mommy to Caty

Guest guest
That's the promo (about Brad Pitt and Oprah's book club) I saw earlier this afternoon. Oprah doesn't come on until 4 o'clock here but I'm pretty sure Whitestone won't be on... Someone from another list said the show has been rescheduled. As for what day and time, I don't know. How disappointing!! I was really looking forward to this... Oprah Did I miss something? Brad Pitt etc...is on my Oprah right now. I'm not complaining but I thought this show was about CI's etc..
