Hi Lynne,Please find a doctor who knows more about liver disease than the one you have--either a gastroenterolist or a hepatologist !!! Any doctor who knows anything about liver disease or Hep C would NOT say alcohol is ok--especially during treatment !!!! Both ephadra and alcohol are absolute no-no's. Treatment can be difficult and you need a doctor who is knowledgable about the disease and about the side effects of treatment. Learn ALL you can before you start treatment. Find a doctor who has SUCCESSFULLY treated a number of patients. Read the online book Choices at hepcchallenges. org. If you wiil tell us where you live, maybe someone can steer you to a doctor in that area. I am sorry, but NO DOCTOR who knows anything about Hep C (or other liver diseases) would say alcohol is ok. You need to have someone who is very, very knowledgable to see that you are safe during treatment.SuziQ >> Hi, so glad I stumble across this group! Seems a very supportive place to be esp. with all the stigma attached to hep c. I am a 43 yr. female and was diagnosed in March geno type 3. Completely out of the blue! I was going through a battery of medical tests for a contractor job in the Middle East and one of my labs came back with an “abnormal†result. Had to get more tests to show that I am ok…well, turns out I am not ok. So, I really want to get this started and over and try to move on with my life. I plan to start my peg\ribo treatment mid May. (I think) I have just been trying to research as much as I can before I start and mentally gear up for it. Oh I do already take the max dose of Wellbutrin for depression…so really

concerned about the mental\emotional side effects. However, my current mind set is: Expect (and prepare) for the worst and pray for the best! Once again, feel blessed to have found your group! Getting to the supplement question: I was wondering if anyone has used any Ephedra products while on the meds? In the mornings I currently take half of a 25 mg true Ephedra w\200 mg of caffeine in it. It helps give me energy to get to the gym and get a work out. However I am concerned if there are indications for the liver and it if may have an adverse affect with the meds. I was thinking it may actually help me though some of the side effects…? I asked my Dr. and she said it was fine…but she also told me I could drink alcohol on occasion too while on the meds. Also, are there many of you that have combined alternative medicines with the Western? Such as Milk Thistle, vitamin D and such? Is there any one place (or link…Don?) for dosage amounts and potency?

Thanks!! Lynne>

Lynne,I am going to piggy-back here on what Suzi just said... Even after treatment drinking is not a wise decision. During treatment it is disastrous. Those high caliber high intensity drugs CAN NOT be mixed with alcohol at any time. And the drugs stay in your body for months and months after treatment so having a drink the day it's over doesn't work either. When you have liver disease of any kind, drinking is like pouring gasoline on a flame... the damage is huge. I agree with Suzi, FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR. Find a Hepatologist or at the very least a Gastro that specializes in liver disease. I'd also stop the ephedra. Caffeine is a huge no no during treatment. I had to switch to

de-caf coffee and herbal teas and I had to stop my much beloved Coca Colas as well. Besides, if you are just using to to work out... chances are, working out is going to be the last thing on your mind during treatment. Just my 2 cents, but it's 2 cents from somebody who's been there and done that. I was just responding to the person who thinks it is okay to take treatment and drink and do adrephia.

I think its crazy to do so. I think it was the pegasys site where I learned that taking treatment and drinking could cause liver failure and even death. Here is the site http://www.pegasys.com/. PS never did drink that beer been off treatment for 6 mths and to chicken. lol
