My email program is not set to automatically open attachments, which keeps me from being infected--I think. I have noticed that virus emails like this usually have an included text message that looks something like this: Content-Type: text/html; Content-Type: audio/x-wav; name=type.exe Content-ID: <T8RruR6c366> Anytime I get a message that has " audio/x-wav " in it I immediately trash it and then empty the trash. I have now received it from a large number of the names on our list, as well as a couple of names that were not on our list. It is my suggestion at this time that if you receive any attachments in any emails from this listserv you do not open them until you have confirmed directly with that person that they did indeed send you an attachment in an email. It appears this list had been targeted in an atttempt to shut it down. Cheryl Bruce, MD Cheryl Bruce, MD President/Founder The Center For Exceptional Children and Families, Inc. Guest guest
Greetings Lois, Better safe than sorry. At one time a mo. or two ago, I got similar emails but didn't open them. I immediately deleted them. We have since updated all our firewall and antivirus systems. I would suggest everyone do the same. We will constantly be harangued with this type of sabotage. It will come from many different sources. Protect your computers with the downloadable virus scans and update them on a regular basis. Run the scans on your total system on a regular basis. Some of these are sleeper viruses that are triggered by a future infection that you may download from someone you know and trust. We pay a high price for this ability to communicate, don't we? We either use snail mail or join the rest of the world in protecting ourselves from this type of practice. It is such a shame that we have to do this. With Much Respect, Marlena Orndorff ) These emails are not coming through the medicaid group. 1. nemeth (window.opener) 2. dfreels Ed Nemeth 3. medicaid Menu Defs 4. tinlizzy12 McGill Study featured a I was wondering if anyone else is getting these? Guest guest
It is clear that this list is 'virus infected'. There is not doubt at all. So the solution is to either have a bulletproof virus protection system or to simply change the way you do things. I do not allow groups to send me emails. When I signed up for this and other groups, I chose the 'no email' option. When I want to see what is being posted, I simply log onto www., put in my username (mlv91745) and my password and then I go down the list of posts. Windows will even change the color of the posts that you have read so you can keep track of what you have seen. If I choose to post then I simply click on post and type away. groups spends a lot of time protecting its servers so as long as I read posts off their servers, I am fine. You have to understand that viruses use windows and outlook features to propagate. When groups blasts out the email posts to your address, it blasts out the originating email address as well. Windows (as smart as it is), picks up that address and adds it to its book. Then when your computer is infected, the virus simply goes to your address book and cookies and blasts out emails with attachments. In fact some virus worms are so advanced that they will collect email addresses from emails you have received that are not even in your address book. So in the case of Ed Nemeth, chances are that his email was found on someone else's book and the worm virus used it as the originating email address - hence it seemed like his computer was sending when he was not even in town. Simply put, turn off email delivery from groups and opt to go and read the posts at the site. This will also reduce the 'email clutter' in your personal email. You can do this by simply going to and logging in with your screen name and password. Then change your profile and it will give you the option of email delivery. Choose no email. You are done. Your email box will not be clutter free. Now if you EVER receive any email from groups, you are sure to know it is a virus. Simply delete it. The other option is to switch to a email service provider that scans for viruses for you. Aol, and MSN do not do this. Email providers that scan for viruses, will reject any email with a virus and simply send you a message stating the someone has tried to send you a virus. This service costs about $20 per month but is worth the money if you depend on your computer and email for a living. Hope that helps. > To and the Group, > Over the last few months, I have been getting emails that looks like > they are coming from people from the list. These emails have > attachments. Guest guest
Teri, Relax, take time just for you . You do so much for other people , you need to have some "me time" . When my e-mail does unexpected things I blame Spyke - it's amazing the amount of trouble one small adolescent cat ( he's not quite a cat ,, not still a kitten.) can cause ! I can't get excited about Christmas these days . My youngest sister will be here with her daughter & stepkids next week, so we'll be having Christmas early . On the actual day , I think I'll sleep late , then go over to my parents place sometime in the afternoon . I like quiet times now . Guess I had enough excitment back in the day. Guest guest
--THANK YOU FR.DAVE!!! Finally got a great answer to tell my doc's. My family, my kids, and I have Psorisis. Just maybe Psoriatic Arthitis is in there too. I know I have Reiters, but all of us got our Psorisis under control, unless we eat sweets. Watch out, the holidays are coming. I will have to have a long talk with my Dr. and see what he says. Thank you again so much. And you are in my prayers. I hope you get feeling better soon. And better with us is different than the norm. Hope Hazel is babying you, it is nice when you feel like one legs in the grave and the other on a banana peel if someone treats you sweet. I've been there many times, and had to still take care of my 6 kids. Warn me down to a feather. Take care. D. in Oregon - In , " Fr. Guest guest
You are quite welcome Lizabeth. I have long had the idea that there is only one Spondy Disease and the other diagnoses that we get, AS, ReA, SpA, etc are only names for other symptoms of the one disease. Lizabeth, I have had a full load of caring for someone in the immediate family going through serious diseases, etc. Cerebral Aneurysims causing Organic Brain Syndrome. To bring the fancy words into language we all can understand, it was someone who had two ruptured cerebral aneurysms, 7 brain operations to fix them, and all causing severe brain damage. Part of the damage was the killing of the entire Frontal Lobe of that person's brain. It actually became deadly for anyone to care for her having dodged knife blades and other sharp flying objects one too many times. It wears a person out especially when you have to become sole caregiver, trustee and guardian for that person. Believe me, death, my death, would have been a Godsend near the end of that experience. Being as ill as we are, nobody can really put themselves in our shoes for even a fraction of a second. They do not know the fears and all that are involved. I remember when my doctor at the time, Doctor Baker, sat down at his desk in front of me, now I was not in the examination room, but rather he personal office, when he unloaded the Ankylosing Spondylitis and other loverly Spondy diagnoses on me. I think my jaw fell to the floor. I had heard of AS, I had studied AS for my x-ray and nuclear medicine lectures. I was not prepared for me to be diagnosed with it. It took me about 30 minutes to find my way out of his office, pick up my prescriptions and then make my way, another 30 minutes, to my drug store to get them filled then drive home. When I told my wife at the time the results of all the tests and what they said I had, as a nurse she knew of this disease, and she said, " so what?????? Big, hairy deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! " Needless to say I was crushed. Needless to say I am no longer in that situation. Blessings to all Fr. Dave
Guest guest
Hey , I think I have responded to your e-mails, and posted some of mine. I have been successfully treated with antibiotics. 3 times in 20 years. It is hard to get a doctor to try different meds. The drug that worked for me was Floxin 300 mg 2 x per day for 3 months. The last time my Rheumatologist gave me 300 mg Clyndamycin at the same time, although it may not have been necessary. I once was treated with doxy and septra at the same time for prostate infection / Reiter's. It did not work for me, but I think the doctor that prescribed it was quite in tune and it worked for others. I think, if you have an infection, or something like an infection causing Reiter's then it may take just the perfect antibiotic to clear the problem, or multiple antibiotics. Dr Brown's Protocol, and Marshall Protocol seem to make sense for my treatment. My rheumatologist has said, in my case, it looks like any health issue tends to trigger my Reiter's. I also think fungal infections, even if they are low level infections, can trigger Reiter's. I also think the diet is very important. Simple foods, no spices, no preservatives, no pop, no candy or other sources of high fructose corn syrup may help with symptoms. I think any liquor, even a glass of wine or 1 beer, tends to bring out symptoms that might not show up until you have the liquor. A person I met, told me his mother had arthritis, and she insisted her diet was a huge factor. He said she ate simple food, and remarked it tasted like cardboard, but felt much better with her minimal diet. I know, 50 years ago, my grandmother lived with us and my mom kept her on a simple diet - if she stayed at another place for a while, mom would point out how poorly Grandma felt until she got back on the simple diet. Guest guest
D. ~ I have the " all-the-time/anytime sweats " and the thinning hair that you describe. I've been to a number of doctors regarding both issues and have been told everything from post-menopause (I had a hysterical-ectomy & oompherectomy in 1998 so, of course, I'm post-menopausal ~ even though I'll *only* be 44 on Thursday. By the way, Happy Birthday to you on Wednesday!) to thyroid to mineral deficiency. Nothing has actually panned out. The Synthroid has helped slow down the hair loss, but it's still happening a bit. Last week, an endocrinologist wanted to try to wean me off Premarin. Get this, he wants to put me on an anti-depressant (even though I'm not depressed) because it has " been shown " to help with hot flashes. I tried to tell him, I have the all-the-time/anytime sweats, not just hot flashes related to estrogen, but he wouldn't listen. (I had " regular " hot flashes immediately following my hysterectomy, so I do know the difference.) Sorry, I have no answers for you, but I do have the symptoms and I'm seeking treatment. If you find anything that works to help either, please post and I shall do the same. Blessed be! Guest guest
Fr. Dave, It sounds like we have a parallel type of life. My 4 husbands we alcoholic/drug addicts, that I didn't know before getting married. While dating them, I guess I was their drug of choice. I got beat up by two of them, but emotionally beat up by all. My poor kids had to go thru some stuff watching me in these messes. Finally when I got in Alanon, I learned to release the person with love, and now I stay single. I have been sick on and off thru my life, but after the last divorce, I guess the stress of all those years caught up with me, and I am worse off than ever. I can't even move to another apartment, it gets me sicker. So, I'm going to stay here until I die. I have dealt with Spondy diseases since I was 19, I am 58 now. And yes, I think it is one of the diseases that flip the switch and turn on all the others. I do know I had Ulcerative Colitis first, and with that bacteria going thru my body for so long, it has just gone everywhere and contaminated my whole body. But it does take a lot of strength to keep going, let alone taking care of others with problems. With my problems, I have gotten very close to the Lord, He is my best friend. I died three times having to do with my surgeries, and he comes and tells me I can go with Him, but I haven't finished my mission yet. So I choose to stay. If He came today, I would go. I think I have done most of the work I can do with this body. I do enjoy teaching the gospels to children, did it for 20 years, and now with my own grandchildren when my kids bring them over to visit. I want them to have a strong foundation Knowing the Lord. It is a beautiful thing to really Know Him, not just know about Him. That is what keeps me going. Drs. really don't know what to do to help me, and one time I took my shoes off and told the doc to walk in my shoes for a day. He understands a little better now how I am feeling. All the surgeries and all the Spondy activity going on, it is really hard to keep going, but the doc says they will try to keep me comfortable. But the thing is, somedays I feel like doing my own surgery on my belly pain. But don't worry, I can upon the Lord and He sees me thru it. One day we will be gone, but for those in the future, medicine will find something that will repair the immune system before it can do much damage. I pray for all of us suffering with these diseases in this day and age, because the docs really are guessing at what they are doing to treat us. But each of us are insterments to finding the cure. My grandfather had polio as a young man, they found a way to prevent polio after he had it, but they learned on him and those who had it back then. God's hand is on all of us, we just have to remember that. Bless you Fr. Dave for going thru what you have, and are going thru. Bless all the people with these diseases, and be thankful someone like Rick put up this web site for us to reach out to each other with love and understanding. Thank you all for listening, I am beginning to preach,so I will leave that to Fr. Dave, and close now. D. in Oregon Re: Re: emails You are quite welcome Lizabeth. Guest guest
, I had a complete historectomy in '93, so I am not in mental pause either. I was allergic to premarin, so I took soy for any of the symptome of menopause. And my hair just started falling out withing the last maybe 3 or4 years. I will talk to my doc about the Synthroid so I won't go bald. I hope the insurance will pay for it. But these sweats are terrible. I wear loose cotton dresses summer and winter, and I still drip all the time. I blow dry my hair and before I leave the bathroom the hair on the back of my neck is all wet. And I keep myhair cut short. They check my thyroid every year, and that is fine. Now I'll ask him about the minerals. Well, I wish God would have put in a trade package with these bodies He gave us. Thanks for the birthday wish, and I wish you one also. What area do you live in? Is it more tropical there? I would die if I had to be in Florida or one of those humid places. Let me know also if you find out anything. I am just about ready to jump in the cold shower with my nightgown on, and it is midnight, and I am still sweating. I'll see what he says, and let you know. That's to all us all the time sweaters. D. in Oregon > > D. ~ > > I have the " all-the-time/anytime sweats " and the thinning hair that you > describe.
