this is my first post. I have been seeing my endo for about 7 months

and make me permently hypo for the rest of my life.

Please do not destroy your thyroid. Are you taking Tapezole or PTU, and are

you having good results? These meds can be taken long-term, usually w/no ill

effects. Also, please go to iThyroid.com to find ways to use nutrition and

supplements to address the underlying causes of thyroid disease.

Endos in the U.S. push for RAI, but it is not widely used in Europe, where

there is a more conservative approach. Please research this thoroughly, and

explore all options. Once you destroy your thyroid there is no going back. Why

not try to actually heal yourself, rather than trading one illness for another

(hypothyroidism)?

Please stay in contact.

Hi Jane, yes, I read in a book that the typical tests might not cue in on some thyroid problems, but I thought I'd try a test and see. I have some of the same symptoms as you. Except the weight gain, I've lost weight, only because I'm allergic to so many foods. I would have gained weight if I could eat what I usually do! That is a lot of hair loss... though... and there is a book about tests that doctors can run or specialist to go to even if your thyriod test come back normal and you still suspect thyriod problems. I just returned the book to the library... but will get the name if you want and send it on to you. Its my understanding that the typical thyroid test that docs generally give does not usually give the best results and that there is a more specific test that you should ask for. Thanks Michele! If its not too much trouble, I would be very interested in the name of the book. I've also wondered if I've been losing my hair and having dry skin from the high dosage of aspirin I take daily for the desensitization. I defintely didn't experience any of these issues until I started the desens. this past July. We are an interesting bunch of humans aren't we???? Thanks again. Hi Jane, This is Mark.

You have to get used to the dry air here. It has a huge effect on your body.

I would be extremely surprised if the hair loss and dry skin is related

to aspirin. I can't think of any mechanism for that at all.

If you're on prednisone, that will do it. Again, loss of estrogen will

do it. Let us know how your thyroid tests go if you have them done.

good luck!

Hi Alison

Sorry you feel so low.

what did the dr say he would do regarding thyroid? Did he tell you what your

(thyroid) results were? Do you have any other results you can post?

If you look at http://www.tpa-uk.org.uk/hypothyroidism.php and go to symptoms,

do these symptoms fit what you're experiencing?

Also, what do you score on: http://www.tpa-uk.org.uk/adrenals1.php ?

has anything stressful (apart from feeling like this) happened in the last 18

months to trigger this? (I'm wondering if a stressful event affected your

adrenal glands, which in turn might affect your thyroid possibly)

You are not alone! lots of people on this board will try to help you as best

they can.

Chris

Thanks to the people that answered my email , , ,

I was told by my doctor that my levels are going down, but are still with in reference limits.

I am trying to obtain my T3/4 so I can try get help, my doctor said I have put weight on because im depressed, Im sick of been fobbed off. I have not only gained weight , but my ankles knees and neck swell. I read all the symptoms in the book Stop the Thyriod Madness ... and discovered that I have nearly all the symptoms for hypothyroidism. I also did the adrenal stress questionnaire from the TPA web site and scored very highly ( 62/159/2.56/13). Oh and I will try the vitamin D and see if it helps....

Does anyone have any guidance on how to tackle adrenal fatigue.....many thanks Alison
