Lab values are so difficult to understand for the average person... they just see a sheet and see that something or other is below normal or above normal and they panic. In this case, her low white count is exactly what we want to see. But unless the doctors explain that, people panic. And in the doc's defense, most of them don't understand the lab values as much as the lab people do. They have maybe 3 months of training on it where I went thru 2 years of training on it. Most of the time the Lab is telling the Doc what's going on with the patient. I was originally in nursing school and changed over to Lab, it was more time but I was diagnosing for the docs. They have

no clue what's going on til they see the lab work! But yea, I can explain most of it pretty easily so anyone can understand it. Especially when it comes to this environment. I have no issues helping somebody understand their lab work. It's one of the few things I remember well! Thanks for the details on Gloria.... I'm sure the blanks will get filled in. Have a great one!Teri From: "schandler21@..." <schandler21@...> Sent: Wed, April 14, 2010 10:29:55 AMSubject: [ ] Teri - about Gloria

Teri,I'm a little hazy on the details myself, Don probably will have a more complete answer later today.Anyway, if I remember right she went through treatment and had her challenges but came out the other side clear. However, she's contacted other malady's, probably due to being weakened during treatment, so now has issues with other organs etc. I think rheumatoid arthritis was in there somewhere too.Anyway, just after I joined the group she had to go in for some tests, which ended up with her being admitted to the hospital for treatment right around the time you joined the group. A friend of hers, , is being messenger for us to her while she's in the hospital. As an aside, way to be there for le! All I could give her was my layman answers, I didn't realize you were so knowledgeable re: blood counts etc.

I'll just hush my keyboard on those type questions until I see your answer, then wisely say "Yeah, my experience agrees with Teri, that's the same thing I've seen..." while stroking the beard I don't have and can't grow... how do you like me NOW?!No really, thanks for being there, it's good to have the experience and knowledge pool we do, we're blessed in ways we don't even recognize.SteveLife is much more fun when thought of as a scavenger hunt as opposed to a surprise party. Can somebody fill me in please.... Since I'm sorta new to the group I don't know Gloria or what she's going thru... just that it sounds difficult and that she is in the hospital.... what's happening with her?Teri from Chicago
