Don,

Thanks for your reply and your concern.

You mentioned you take Walmart’s mens one a day multi? Check the

ingredients, and you will see propylene glycol. That may be part of the cause of

your not feeling so well. Have a look into the side effects of that, including

liver abnormalities, kidney damage, digestive problems, heart problems, etc. It

makes my legs go numb and a horrid stomach ache if I take it.

Perhaps it is that we are coming from two different perspectives

(traditional medicine and alternative) that we have such different views of

things. Our discussion is exactly the same one that science has been debating

for a long time about doses needed. If the supplements you are taking are

getting you the results you need, then keep doing it.  One multi every other

day does not work for me.

Megadoses of vitamins in some situations and disorders is

necessary according to nutritional medicine. The RDA is waaaay to low for even

healthy people, then there is quality of the vitamin and additives, and the

ability to absorb and assimilate the vitamins. There are certain conditions

that impair the body’s use of vitamins/minerals to the extent that high doses

become necessary. In a normal healthy person they are generally not needed, as

you say. Other people can’t function without a dose that would be toxic to someone

else. It is very individualized, which is why things like the RDA don’t work.

While many mainstream docs agree with what you said of 1000mg Vitamin

C maximum, there are a lot of studies since the 60’s on vitamin C taken to

bowel tolerance. The research studies just don’t support that theory endorsed

by the NIH that low dose is best. The amount needed by any person is individual,

and also varies according to the persons health at any given time. Linus

ing, considered the ‘father of vitamin c’ has the original research http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/12154.php

http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/vitamin-c.htm

for information about excretion of excess C.

Vitamin C is currently use in IV form for treating cardiovascular

disease, cancer, and is now being formally studied for Hep C, (http://www.healthinnov.org/current-studies.php).

I question the media’s portrayal of deaths attributed to

supplements. The link to the article gives no data on the woman’s age, health

or lifestyle issues, drugs taken, possible contamination of herbs, and no names

of herbs given other than lecithin. The article itself says the cause of liver failure

is unknown and “assumed†to be from supplements.

But having said all that, I have experienced very bad side

effects of one vitamin so I know they can be dangerous. All I can say is what

you are saying, research and know what you are getting into. And when people

like me mess up and end up being studied in a world class teaching hospital,

more research articles come out with new info that you can use J lol

But if that one doc was not too caught up in his ego to notice how sick I was getting

it never would have happened.

My doc did also say that it is because of all these supplements

that I am functioning as well as I am.

Hi

Thank you for this info.

I will research these things that you listed, and try to

find out critical info for you, and for everyone else too.

It may take me some time, I am very busy, but I will get

to it.

Right off the bat, I have a comment.

The amount of Vitamin C that you are taking may

be too much, and your wasting it.

Our bodies can only absorb so much Vit-C, somthing like

500-1000 MG p day.

The rest, your body throws off via your kidneys.

20,000 MG puts a horrible strain on your kidneys and your

liver.

You may be asking for trouble there, I think, not to

mention wasting money.

I take one pill each of my sups, no matter what

the pill dose or RDA is.

I take sups one day, and vitamins the next day.

Back and forth like that.

This way I am avoiding adverse drug interactions, mega

doses that might harm my body, and still getting the possible benefits from

them.

I am not interested in using the sups to try to cure me,

only to better my diet, thus my body as a whole.

Too much is as bad, as too little. Maybe worse.

, folks die from over-using suppliments.

The sups that we take can also interact adversely in our

bodies.

There is little clinical research done on many sups.

Here is just one example of this. Click this link.

Woman dies from eating supplements she sells

http://news.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Asia/Story/A1Story20100614-222009.html

You may want to cut back on dosage in some of your sups.

You may want to alternate them also like I do too,

to avoid adverse drug interactions.

I cannot tell you what you should do.

All I can do is suggest the things that I feel might be

helpful.

Please be careful, and do lots of research before you jump

on any wagon.

You said this yourself -

I take soo many supps even my doc can’t keep track.

Please think about this statement.

Hi

Don,

So

glad all this got through to you – and even better that you are feeling

better from it.

Listen

to your dad – maybe just this once and try the enzymes/HCL.

The

ox bile I take I can only get from the doc, not stores that I have found yet,

but there must be others similar http://www.professionalhealthproducts.com/products/productdetail.jsp?st= & id=LIPOZYME

What

it does for me is allows me to eat fats/fried foods and not get sick, bloat,

belch, swell up, run to the bathroom,, or have liver pain. I don’t eat a lot

of fried foods, but even simple things like cooking oil, or fish is too fatty

for me otherwise. I will admit to a more than occasional French fry

indulgence J

That

is a wonderful idea about researching each supplement. Can’t wait to see what

happens there.

I

take soo many supps even my doc can’t keep track. I also am on the edge of

kidney failure and have mercury poisoning, so not all supps are only for

liver.

B1

(400mg), B2 (400mg), mercury affects metabolism of them

B3

(1000mg), I get too speeded up otherwise – too much, too fast, can’t sleep –

part of liver detox thing, lowers cholesterol

B5 (1000mg)

adrenals/stress, B12 (min. 10,000iu) , folic acid, biotin – can’t take B6 so

take them all separately

Beta

Care all – betacarotine/vit A antioxidant 2/day

Vit C

– near bowel tolerance 20,000mg antioxidant, removes plaque throughout

body (skin, eyes, teeth, arteries), rebuilds collagen, High doses may get rid

of hep c virus, helps kidney function

D in

winter. 1000iu a day and still very deficient

E –

Total E one capsule, antioxidant

Calcium

– can’t seem to get enough

Mag –

to bowel tolerance? Combining several forms – about 500mg?

Selenium

– antioxidant, clears detox pathways 2 brazil nuts/day 600mg or so

Fish

oil omega 3

Phosphotidyl

choline – fats, liver support

Homeopathic

thyroid/adrenal – both low

DHEA

– hormones low, energy

Serrapeptase

– systemic enzyme, removes dead tissue, scar tissue, inflammation

Assorted

natural antibacterials – taheebo tea, oil of oregano, neem oil,

Alpha

Lipoic Acid – 1mg for mercury chelation

Baking

soda – stop formation of ammonia, balance pH, some evidence it can restore

kidney function

Apple

Cider Vinegar - balance pH, antibacterial, many health benefits

Digestive

enzymes, HCL, fat enzymes

Chromium/vanadium

– blood sugar

Probably

something I forgot……..
