Starting a Support Group

Hey All, I have been on that wagon (trying to start a support group) for a few months now and it is extremely difficult to get people together to begin with. I do belong to a really good support group, the Tampa Bay Hepatitis and Liver Disease Support Group which actually has four meeting locations. The group has been around awhile so it would be a good example. I believe what makes this group attractive is that we offer screening, blood work, and treatment for uninsured. So, you can see we have the ability to attract people with a "product." But, in reality , the support is not so much the talking and sharing of stuff like you would see in an "AA" group, so I can understand the "AA" idea. However, my idea would be to have a

much more personal one on one group, discussing issues much like we do here. I know myself that I needed to talk with people who had been through what I was going through at the time. So I have tried to use a web site venue to get people to show interest and then hope to move into a location at some point. I have already gained access to a site, which is coincidentally in the same church that I go to AA meetings at. The truth being is that a lot of AA's have HepC so imitating them is not a bad idea. That's my take. Randy O Website-- SuncoastHepCFriends.OrgForum -- Suncoast HepC Friends Forum
