Guest guest
Well My daughter has been tested 2x and she is absolutely positive Hep c . Now she has to get a cat scan and a liver biopsy. Then she goes back to her Gastro Doc and with all the result they will come up with her treatment. I am I to understand that you lose your hair with these treatments? Could this Hep c cause mental imbalances?  Right now she is off the wall and I can’t seem to penetrate the crazyness. She does not live with me and she is not to my belief on any drugs other than her prescribed Subutex (buprenorphine) and clonazepam. Her moods jump from totally sedate to off the wall incoherent. I am watching and investigating from a distance hoping that I can help her when her treatment starts. I appreciate all help and words of encouragement and prayers. Thanks you! It is no joke, and not fun. I am not a medical professional, but I will try to help you with info. First let me say that I have collected a ton of info websites for everyones HCV research in the links library: http://health.dir./group/ /links <--- click here You may also access the links by going to the group homepage, and click on LINKS in the left side menu: http://health.dir./group/ / <--- click here It will require some time on your part to do research, but this links library has many very informative websites. I am not quite sure if you are saying that your daughter does, or does not, have Hepatitis C. She needs to have bloodwork lab tests. If she has antibodies but no viral load, she was exposed, but her body was able to fight the HCV off. If she does have a viral load [VL], she may be chronic, and may need treatment [TX]. If she is chronic, she may need a liver biopsy to find the extent of her liver damage. She may also have Hep A or B, or HIV, [co-infection]. She needs to get to a doctor and get checked out. Then she will know how to proceed. - First, she needs to STOP USING ALL ILLEGAL DRUGS and ALCOHOL, [if she can]. IV transmission is the most common way to catch Hepatitis C, but not the only way. [HCV is passed blood to blood, IE: blood on a needle that is used by another person.] - Next, she needs to do labwork. - Thirdly, a healthy lifestyle is very important. Diet, maybe sups/vitamins, exercise, rest. etc. I dont think HCV lies dormate very long, but it progresses slowly, [most times]. UNLESS Alcohol and some other things accelerate HCV progression and liver damage. It also depends on each persons body. We are all different. Tina, there is always HOPE. There is a 'so called' cure through treatment for most people. Treatment works on, and affects everyone differently. There ARE side effects to treatment. If she does treatment she will need help, and support. Milk Thistle is helpful. So are other sups/vitamins. I stress a healthy lifestyle. The good news is that Medical Science is working on, and comming up with, new ways to combat diseases every day. Every day there is more hope for a final solution. Even now, a great many folks reach SVR [sustained viral responce]. Besides the links library, here are some very good website links to start with. Just click on them. http://www.healthyhepper.com/ http://www.hcvadvocate.org/hepatitis/factsheets_pdf/HCV%20Guide%2009.pdf http://janis7hepc.com/index.htm http://www.hepatitis-central.com/ Please feel free to ask any questions, or to comment. No question is too big, or small, or stupid, or TABOO. We will all try to help. love don in ks From: christine collier <christine1951@...> Subject: RE: [ ] Welcome New Member Date: Thursday, January 28, 2010, 8:44 PM Hello. All, I am a Mom and my daughter was just diagnosed with hep c. We are waiting 4 weeks until all test are completed. I guess what I am looking for is ideas of what I can do for her. I used to be able to fix her or to help her now I can only watch. Yes, she did this to herself; we tried to warn her that her body would rebel but she was not hearing us. She had her own agenda. I have tried to read up on this but I am no not medical savy. She is on Subutex for an addiction probem and has been for two years now but I found the syringes here and there. Finally we insisted she could not live here. Now we can only watch her suffering from afar. Are there any suggestions anyone can give me so that I might pass them along. Perhaps some hope. There are so many things that are going on with her…hair falling out, scaly dry skin, her hand blew up 3 times its size. They say all this could have been from the hep c. I thought she was tested a year ago and tested negative…could it lie dormant? She is also in college but will this take her away from that? I am unsure about her resolve to beat this. She has a problem with her own identity. So all in all we have both medical and mental issues. I ordered milk thistle because they say it heals the liver. Will she ever heal? How about the treatment…is there side effects? Or does the treatment affect everyone in a different way. So many questions so little knowledge. Can anyone help me with some answers? Guest guest
Hi Tina I personally, have not undergone treatment yet. From my research and listening to others, I have heard of many 'possible' side effects to both HCV itself, and to treatment. It all depends on the person. Others here who have undergone TX can tell you what they have experianced, physically and mentally. I have noticed quite a few health issues just having HCV in myself. In the links library, [folders 011], I address quite a few of the related health issues possibly caused by HCV and/or TX. http://health.dir./group/ /links/ <--- click here A persons Psychological problems can be caused by many things that upset our balance. Genetics, abuse, a hard life and/or trama, drug use, diet, meds, diseases, misunderstandings, to just name a few. Its anybodys guess which thing, or combo of things result in mental/physical problems. When I was using drugs, I would sometimes be sedate, sometimes irrational, or anything in between. I quit drug and alcohol use decades ago, but I still find that the 'swings' continue, although not as bad. [flashbacks? damage?] When a person is sick, this also contributes to mood swings, as you well know. I too, took headmeds for awhile, but quit because I didnt like who I had become. I would rather fight my problems unmedicated. The only things I can tell you for sure, is to give your daughter lotsa love, support, and patience. She is struggling. She is welcome to join us all, and maybe she will be inclined to discuss her problems with the group. She could learn from us, and we could learn from her. Everybody wins. love don in ks From: christine collier <christine1951@...>Subject: RE: [ ] Welcome New Member Date: Thursday, January 28, 2010, 8:44 PM Hello.
