Guest guest
I just replied to what Carlene said, but I do have something to ask you. I don't know about you, but my diarrhea gets extremely bad when I consume cream and oil based foods. Example, if I go out to eat, I've got to be very careful on not only what base is in the foods, but what it's also cooked in, such as what type of fat, if any. I could never make it home if I went out to eat, ever and it was very embarassing if I was out on a date. After seeing the Gastro doc and passing all tests for any bacteria etc, he diagnosed me with IBS, except at that time I had the diarrhea, the exact opposite of what I have now. I could eat something that has fat in it like ice cream or a shake ro even regular salad dressing and it'll go right thru, except the pain is horrible. I finally realized what it was when this continued to happen any time I ate out and even at home depending on what I was eating.. So now I've got to figure out what to do to relieve the constipation as this is also very painful. Do you think it could possibly be some foods you're eating? It's possible, not saying it is, just a thought. Anyway, just some food for thought, no pun intended. Good luck in your journey. Guest guest
G'day , you have all of my sympathy because this condition is horrible. I'm just being really open now...I said to my husband yesterday that if I hadn't found a way to fix this...I couldn't keep going. He said, " you'd have to. " He doesn't understand the suffering. It's the burning I get throughout my system that is like torture! But, I'm very lucky I found something to help me. I only hope it can help someone else, too. I know we were discussing the Blackcurrant Mixture, recently. But I need memory pills to remind me why I was telling you about it. Remember, I suggested you get advice on the flaxseed with your meds. (Heidi suggested you consult with your Pharmacist) This is a Fibro Funny...isn't it?! The Blackcurrant Recipe is in Dom's Oct.20 newsletter. And there's a follow-up to the recipe in the November 1 (or November 11) newsletter. I can't remember which one? Plus you know you could e-mail me if anything's confusing. Just so I could confuse you, some more! hugs Carlene > > Carlene, I have the exact problem you have and just yesterday called my pharmacist to see what they could recommend that I take. Guest guest
Thank god for this group or I'd go out of my mind! Yes I did forget and yes I have been getting confused so thank you for understanding, which I understand why, because we're all going through the same things. I have so many notes all over the place with web sites to look up, certain omega 3's to look for, the beverage to help me sleep, and so on. I'm writing so many notes that I'm forgetting where I'm putting the notes. It's crazy. I feel like I respond to everything that people have because I have so much going on. My boyfriend said he never knew a person could have so much conditions and diagnoses. Well he met it and can't even pronounce alot of them. He doesn't understand how bad this is, because he's so regular. To me this is a funny, he came to me and said I can't go to the bathroom and I'm miserable. I asked him how long it had been and he said yesterday! I just looked at him and simply said, "give it time". I just laughed. Men, I'll tell ya. Anyway I think I remember reading the recipe but didn't understand something about it, and of course can't remember what that something was. I'll have to go over the recipe again and email you. Does this have to be made everyday, or is it a recipe that last a few days? I remember several things in the recipe and couldn't imagine making this daily. I have to grab whatever I eat or drink because I cannot stand in the kitchen long at all. Thanks for the info and thanks for the understanding. Guest guest
When the bloating and constipation was about, I took my mom's advice and began taking 1/4 teaspoon of Epsom Salts in a large glass of water each morning. Believe it or not, it did help with both symptoms. It is supposed to be a good colan cleanser. But, this is on the advice of the "wisdom of my elders" passed on from generation to generation, and not on any doctor's advice. Just like take an eight tsp of baking soda in a large glass of warm water when I feel a kidney or bladder infection coming on. Doctor's don't like to see you do that, and advise against it, as it can be harmful if you take too much. But, it does the trick if you catch it early, and follow that with lots of cranberry juice and water. I've also been advised that my joints won't hurt so much if I drink a tablespoon of apple-cider vinegar and one teaspoon of honey each day. Has this been tried by anyone? I'm not fond of either, so am not brave enough to try it yet. Guest guest
Hi , I make it fresh every day. It's a real chore but I've got no choice. It makes me feel alive, again. I haven't tried stretching it over several days. I imagine it would go all gooey etc., because of the flaxseed. You can experiment, though. It takes me at least a 1/2 hr to prepare. I just tell myself it's exercise...ha ha! For you, maybe you could place all the ingredients on the table. And prepare the mixture there. Once or twice a week, I'll make up the mixture without the apple, and carrot. Saves grating. Then I'll just eat an apple during the day. But your CFS/Fibro body-makeup may be different to mine. You might eventually find that you only have to eat it every other day. If this works well for you, you may find that you'll feel a bit stronger. Then you might be able to stand, longer. Did you notice this is getting POETIC!!! LOL Good luck hugs Carlene Anyway I think I remember reading the recipe but didn't understand something about it, and of course can't remember what that something was. Guest guest
, You had me laughing here, although I know it's not so funny to be the one having to run into the woods. But, you remind me of my sister who had the same problem, and she began carrying a bucket in the car in case there was no where to pull over. We both had tears rolling down from laughing so hard as her husband told how she had to use that bucket one day, while he was driving on the interstate. As she puts it ... "it stripped me of all my pride!" Desperate times call for desperate measures. ") On the more serious side, my sister-in-law has a serious case of IBS and has changed her diet, tried every med known to mankind, and they are now talking about removing her colon, or clamping it off and using a temporary colostomy to see if she gets any relief. She has actually passed out on the toilet one day, due to the extreme amount of pain during elimination. They are now wondering if she has Chrohn's disease, instead of IBS. I think they just have run out of things to tell her she has, and this is just a shot in the dark. Six weeks later I was fine. Which showed I had the overgrowth of the rare bad bacteria in my gut. Type of thing you get when you go away to a third world country. How it happened to me. Who knows. But it is not a uncommon with Fibro people. My doctor then delivered the news that the good thing was it worked and the bad thing was that it worked. Trouble is you cannot keep using the antibiotic because the bacteria gets smart and just get resistant. And you have to keep taking it every three months since the antibiotic does not kill all the millions of little bugs just a few million. It really helped did help. Now I take it only occasionally while I get it under control permanently homeopathicly. I now have a very special diet so the bacteria has nothing to feed on. I still have trouble {diarrhea happens a lot} but I am not pulling my car over anymore. Guest guest
,Oh, It was really funny when mosquito's where swarming me. Or when I was on a busy roadway and I would pretend like I was looking around picking wildflowers before I did what I had to. My family always laughed as well. They might want to look for this research paper about this bacteria and the antibiotic. I am telling you I was the same. I was checked for Crohns. Even did a Biopsy for Crohns.I was checked for everything. I could call my doctor to find out what the paper is if she wants. It is worth a try. No side effects from the antibiotic either. Guest guest
Hi Jeannie, My IBS was diagnosed much the same way, by ruling out everything else. I have gotten it under pretty good control with diet. Bear in mind that some of the triggers are different for different people, but these are the rules I follow. My diet rules for managing IBS: No Dairy, period No tomato, beans, cabbage, peppers or any gas producing veggies High protein diet, with low fat protein three meals a day No fatty meats or other fatty foods (for me this means no pork) Avoid meds for diarrhea if possible, they screw up the system No MSG!!!! Limited glutens No raw veggies, tho I can have some salad if symptom-free No caffeinated or carbonated drinks (this means no coffee or tea) Four things that never hurt me: Eggs Baked chicken or chicken broth Gatorade and Tang Rice and potatoes When I eat bad stuff, things get out of control for weeks, not just days, unless I spend about three days eating almost nothing but the above list. That clears things up for me quickly now. This disease totally changed the way I eat. I'm not thrilled about it, but I am thinner and healthier. Good luck,
Guest guest
LOL! I weigh less now than I did in high school! I had to change my diet literally 100% to control the IBS. I spent months eating nothing but eggs, baked chicken, rice, potatoes and PBJ sandwiches. Anything else would leave me doubled over in the bathroom for hours at a time! I'm currently in a flare, because I was foolish enough to eat some raw carrots at work one night about two weeks ago! Back I go to chicken, eggs, and rice! I still have dreams of salads and especially bell peppers!! My symptoms go back and forth from one extreme to the next. I have learned to avoid the constipation pain tho, I take colace any day I go more than 24hrs without a stool. I SOOO agree with you about the toxins in our world! Between the estrogens pumped into our meats, fruits, and veggies to the poisons that are now in our soil, water and air, we are killing ourselves slowly! Women and children always go first, IMO! I now avoid anything toxic in my home, especially cleaning chemicals. I buy organic fruit and veggies as much as possible, from a local co-op, and get my meat from a local free-range farm. There is so much food I miss! I've gotten over the milk, but gosh, I miss the cheese!! > > - > > Wow! You could be writing about me. I have had to change my diet so >
Guest guest
Does your friend know what her 'triggers' are for her IBS? are there certain foods, fruits, dairy, beverages, chemicals, medications that set her off, so to speak? Has she done any diet restrictions to see if there is a trigger, such as fructose, gluten etc? What tests have her doctors performed for her? When I get hit bad - in the gut - I make up the following using half bunch fresh celery 1 pound string green beans 3 medium sized zucchini's 2 cups home made chicken or beef broth dice all vegetables, cook in broth until done blend the entire lot to a pulp eat for breakfast lunch dinner and anytime in between for a few days, this will settle the gut. May need to make up another batch to consume until her gut settles. I find it very important to make own stock with NO added processed chemicals. IF your friend feels starved by just eating this green soup, then a slice of plain bread, toasted is ok to have with it. Gluten Free if needed. Then reintroduce foods gradually. It can be of benefit to keep a supply of this in the freezer in individual servings, for emergencies. Clare in Tassie

Guest guest
WOW and no doctor would ever suggest that you go and have allergy testing!!! Isn't that sad?? When my son was still an infant, it was obvious that he had allergies. Eventually, I just wanted to know what they could be so that I could get them out of our lives. Well, he was too young to be tested and so they tested me. Unfortunately, I obviously did not suffer the same allergies he did. We eventually moved out of the city, even though it was not classified as a place with high pollution and he grew out of most of them. Then, a few years ago, I knew this RN that also did work for a Naturopath. She did this painless allergy test and oh boy, you should have seen what was coming up!! I well understood that I was allergic to chocolate (I don't like it), or to mollusks (hard shell fish, which I don't like). I even could understand the milk allergy since I was born lacking a tolerance for milk. However, what I didn't get, was this brand new allergy to my dog!!! This RN had been by my home several times and knew our little dog. So when it got down to that - she says, let's get your body better balanced and the dog can stay! LOL That is what happened in the end too.Gloria for 30 years ive had severe stomach problems in one day i would take 4-5 imodium. i just found out i have gluten intolerence. . i have never felt so good in 30 years and all this time they said i had IBS. what a 360 deg. change in my life its been 2 weeks and i fill so great. threasa in texas Make your browsing faster, safer, and easier with the new Internet Explorer® 8.
