Guest guest
Hello Henry, I don't know how long you've had HCV. If they think you may have just contracted it, they may want to wait 6 months to see if it clears itself as it will sometimes. See http://www.healthyhepper.com/hcvspontaneousclearance.htm Otherwise, it seems to me like they would want to treat you. They are always saying that treatment early after detection and treating lower viral loads is more successful. Then again, if you are almost non detectable, they may just not want to put you through all the side effects of chemo which is basically what the treatment is. Especially when they are expecting more effective, less side effect drugs to be released in a year. If you haven't done so already, feel free to ask your docs for their reasoning... Guest guest
Why would you want treatment if you have an almost non-detectable viral load??Treatment is definitely no picnic in the sun and could cause side affects that are a lot worse than having you viral load watched for changes. I know, I'm on my second treatment. Guest guest
Hello, Here is my situation... I have had HCV for almost 10 years since 2002 that is the only time I was a bit wild. I was diagnosed with HCV approximately six months ago. I am a avid runner, workout and love to enjoy life. …obviously this was not a good time in my life. I had a liver biopsy done and the doctor said the viral load was 216,540 is the exact count. I find this hard to believe, I suspect they are giving me a low count to keep me pacified. I too think it is a good time for treatment because the count is so low!! But the doctor is saying it is chronic because it has been almost 10 years. Please what do you think? Also what is your viral load and why did you have to go for a second treatment? I am very curious about that, I hope I am not being to personal just please share your experiences with the group. I am sure it is no walk in the park like you said, but why would you go again then. I think it is a good thing it is the only treatment available I want it too I helped pioneer interferon genetic growth at Genentech many years ago. Little did I know I was going to need it. > > Why would you want treatment if you have an almost non-detectable viral load?? > > Treatment is definitely no picnic in the sun and could cause side affects that are a lot worse than having you viral load watched for changes. I have had HCV for almost 10 years, I think since 2002 that is the only time I was a bit wild to say the least, going thru a bad divorce. Guest guest
HenryI don't know how your doctor managed to get such an exact figure for a viral load; but, believe it or not - it is low. How are your ALT and AST readings??? By the way, the viral count has very little to do with the amount of damage that may have already happened to your liver plus the viral count can change even within the day. What else did the biopsy say? Like are you at Stage 1, 2, 3 or 4? What genotype are you?You honestly need to think about treatment !!! I'm 36 weeks through my second treatment and can tell you that neither one have been a picnic in the park. My emotional control is absolutely NIL!!! If it weren't for this site, I wonder if I would have stayed on the treatment this long. Then there are the hidden side affects of treatment. There is simply no way that any Dr. could tell you what side affects you might go through or how long they can last. For me, my whole life entirely changed with the first treatment. I'm simply not the same person I was and eventually had to come to accept that it was simply the facts. My very first suggestion, is do not let your insurance company stress you. Even here in Canada, we have to have a good 3 bad counts on the ALT and AST's before they'll even begin the next process. The stress is worse for your health than the fact you don't meet the criteria for treatment yet. Again, I only say that because I've learned this personally. There are lots of people here on this site, that would welcome an opportunity to share with you, diet changes etc. that would be extremely important to add to your already healthy lifestyle.Gloria Here is my situation... I don't know?? genotype 1B no stage...at least I do not remember any... what do you think. does are the three readings above ...that I received this last year. we have to have a good 3 bad counts on the ALT and AST's before they'll even begin the next process....does are all bad above... what do you think...??? > > > > > > From: henry_moreno01 <henry_moreno01@ ...> > > Subject: [ ] Kaiser Hospital and Hep C > > > > Date: Sunday, October 18, 2009, 11:51 PM > > > > > > Anyone have Kaiser Insurance that has been diagnosed with HCV and almost nondeductible viral load I recently was and have had an uphill battle trying to get treatment…Any ideas..Please help. > > > > > > > > ------------ --------- --------- ------ > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Henry Ive only had one lab since I was diagnosed last year [7/08]. I dont know diagnosis stats except GENO 1B, VL 86,000. In 9/09 was my last lab. Im still in the 'normal' range so far, so my body is fighting hard. VL 515,000 [so about 6x higher in one year.] AST [sGOT] 23 U/L - normal <10-42> ALT [sGPT] 29 U/L - normal <10-42> My GLUCOSE and ANION GAP were just a bit high....not much. My BUN/CREAT RATIO and CO2 were just a bit low...not much. Everything else was within the normal range. My Hdoc told me 2 weeks ago that I can wait on biopsy and TX until next year, or longer, depending on my labs. I go back for 2nd labs in march 2010. I dont know what stage I am either, and possibly wont until a biopsy is done. I will let others comment on your stats, as I dont really know. I think that your ok though for a bit as your ALT/AST dont seem to be moving very fast upwards....but I repeat, I dont know. It would be great if you could wait long enough to do the 3D TX next year. I do think that you should be minding your diet. Its important. Dont drink alcohol or smoke either......I say as I smoke my cig. lol http://health.dir./group/ /links/HEP_C_DIET_INFO_001245398019/ love don in ks From: henry_moreno01 <henry_moreno01@...>Subject: [ ] Re: Kaiser Hospital and Hep C Date: Saturday, October 24, 2009, 12:46 AM AST 2/09 56 6/09 74 8/09 78ALT 81 121 126HEP C RNA, bDNA/TMA quantitative (216540(H) suppose to be most accurate viral load test available.I don't know?? genotype 1B no stage...at least I do not remember any... what do you think.does are the three readings above ...that I received this last year.we have to have a good 3 bad counts on the ALT and AST's before they'll even begin the next process....does are all bad above...what do you think...???> > > > > > From: henry_moreno01 <henry_moreno01@ ...>> > Subject: [ ] Kaiser Hospital and Hep C> > > > Date: Sunday, October 18, 2009, 11:51 PM> > > > > > Anyone have Kaiser Insurance that has been diagnosed with HCV and almost nondeductible viral load I recently was and have had an uphill battle trying to get treatment…Any ideas..Please help.> > > > > > > > ------------ --------- --------- ------> > > >
