Guest guest Posted May 5, 2001 Report Share Posted May 5, 2001 Lil, We'll suffer through it together. :-) I'm in perimenopause & I have to say that the Luvox I'm on must be doing it's stuff, because I never felt as grounded before I began on the Luvox. It helps with the perimenopause hormonal stuff, the depression *and* the OCD. The psychiatrist said that's one way they can be certain that my depression/OCD is genetic - that I noticed a difference right away after I began the medicine. Although I'm tremendously grateful for the therapy I've had throughout the years. One very wonderful woman - a social worker - Mabel Bostwick, helped me tremendously during the worst of my depression. She was like an angel! -Jean P.S. Guest guest Posted July 29, 2001 Report Share Posted July 29, 2001 The other night my husband and I sat down to watch a movie. I wanted him to see " The Sixth Sense " . Before we got started a family friend stopped by and also sat down to watch. After the movie was over, my husband got up and left the room crying. I followed him of course to see what was going on. He was upset because the boy in the movie reminded him of our son. The social alienation, the teasing and the kid's desperation in trying to find someone who understood him and would love him anyway. I sat and cryed with him for awhile and then went back into the room to our friend who was confused because we had both left the room crying. I told her that the movie reminded Tony too much about the troubles our son has. She actually said, " You mean he sees ghosts now? " My God lady...! My husband and I had a long talk about who actually KNOWS what Tom has to deal with. We figured it was us two, my sister who lives with us and my best friend. That's it. And we have a huge extended family and lots of friends! No one really knows unless they spend a lot of time with him. Stand back in your life and decide who really knows. Then tune out the opinions of everybody else. They simply dont see all of the picture! I haven't seen it and now I think I might steer clear of it. I already feel bad enough for Micahel and all of the other kids on this list. Sounds like your husband is a real keeper. That's great htat you were able to talk about it so well and be such a good support to each other. When I married Tom, I sort-of liked that he was laid back, quiet, responsible, funny, etc. I still like those traits about him, although those same traits also upset me sometime in that he is not in touch with his emotions and doesn't know how to express his emotions (or much emotional support) to me. I think what happened is that I left my 8-yr. nowhere relationship with a guy like my dad and married my mother! LOL Actually, Tom's a little better than my mom, but - just like her - he doesn't know how to express his feelings very well. I'm still better off, though, so I can't complain much. I don't have a problem telling people has OCD -- I try to make it common (as it is, even though people don't know it is) so he doesn't feel he is SOOO different. Miram Alter has been a thorn in the side of all groups trying to reach Congress for more funding for the past 5 years that I have been involved in this stuff and probably longer. If the CDC tells them it's so...they take them at their word and leave the issue behind plain and simple. Look how many years it took for the CDC to do anything at all about HIV. We are considered drug users/junkies and low lifes so the CDC doesn't do diddly about this. They refuse to do public awareness announcements about the risk factors, and Dr. Harold Margolis, who is the HEAD of the Hepatitis C program at the CDC, told us in a meeting in Washington DC in 2000, that it's up to US - the Heppers - to get the word out! His excuse...money. He wouldn't stick around for questions after the seminar either. The CDC controls Congress by telling them what to give funding for and what not to give funding for. They wouldn't even TALK about HepC up until about 6 yrs ago. Their reaason was that there wasn't a good enough treatment so why scare people. Our government simply doesn't care enough about our Veterans to give them what they deserve for serving our country. Thanks for posting both of these. Do the neurologists think they can get them back under control? Do you have someone with you? I'm not surprised that one disease getting worse would throw the other into greater activity. The people I've know with a seizure disorder usually got worse when they were extrememly worn out. I believe there is someone here who has a seizure disorder but I can't remember who. I had 2 tears in my meniscus he repaired them and had some cartilage that he cleaned up (I have not talked to the Dr but this is what my husband told me) I had a slight reaction to the pain meds it made me very lightheaded so been laying down most the day. I Will post the pictures this weekend once my husband scans them. Amazing, you don't have the same benefits when you're on SSD as a regular senior who is drawing SS. I feel that a little unfair, once you go on SSD, I feel you should be allowed access to other, if not all, "senior" benefits. But that's just my opinion.
