25% Yemeni people are infected with Hepatitis B virus

[15 December 2007] SANA'A, Dec. 15 (Saba) - Head of the Liver Unit at the Republican Hospital in Sana'a Mohammed Salem No'aman said that over five million Yemeni people are infected with Hepatitis B virus, the Saba-run al-Syasiah daily said on Saturday. No'aman said that most significant reason behind the spread of the Hepatitis B virus among Yemenis is the pollutants in agricultural products, drug, food preserving substances and from factories. He said that during the past twenty years many chemical materials have extended into Qat and vegetable farms, pointing out farmers mix various kinds of the chemicals to make Qat and vegetable trees growing faster.
