Guest guest
News Release Here's our latest news release (New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation). I'm attaching a copy also because sometimes e-mail garbles things up. It went out over PRNewswire, to a limited amount of outlets (because of cost constraints) this morning. If you want, you can distribute this to weekly newspapers, and any other media you think may respond. Some people have used our releases as letters to the editor with their names below (this usually works best if it ties in with a published story or if your area is in a fluoridation battle). You can either add your own contacts at the bottom, replace ours with yours (and replace Beeber's quote with one from a member of your group you like better or change his name to someone from your group)or leave it as is. We know that some of us "average" people can be fluoride experts (about the literature anyway), the press is more impressed with professionals and are more apt to pay attention to our releases and print what they say. I didn't make it this way; it's just the way it is. So since our goal is to get our information out to as many people as we can, and the media is our vehicle, we play the game they understand. We only request that Beeber's and Connett's phone numbers be removed before any release is posted on a website, message board or newsgroup. I know this happens anyway despite our best intentions. We only want their phone numbers used for the traditional media to contact and verify information in the release. I know this release won't totally reflect the belief of some people receiving this message but sometimes we have to trade perfection for progress. (And, by the way, we're not happy with PR Newswire; Any suggestions?) Happy today, Carol When Fluoridation Ends - So Do Cavities Cavity rates declined in several cities that stopped water fluoridation, new studies report, contradicting American Dental Association (ADA) predictions. Fluoride added to over 62% of US water supplies is supposed to reduce tooth decay but these six studies from dental journals show it hasn’t and, in fact, may have increased the likelihood of rotten choppers. "No increase in caries (cavities) was found in Kuopio (Finland) 3 years after the discontinuation of water fluoridation," according to Caries Research (1). In fact, when Kuopio was compared to a similar never-fluoridated Finnish town, cavity rates in both towns either remained the same or decreased six years after fluoridation was stopped in Kuopio. Seven years after fluoridation ended in LaSalud, Cuba, cavities remained low in 6 to 9 year olds, decreased in 10 to 11 year-olds, significantly decreased in 12 to 13 year olds, while caries-free children increased dramatically, reports Caries Research (2). East German scientists report, "following the cessation of water fluoridation in the cities Chemnitz (formerly Karl-Marx-Stadt) and Plauen, a significant fall in caries prevalence was observed," according to Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology (3). Additional surveys in the formerly-fluoridated towns of Spremberg and Zittau found. "Caries levels for the 12-year-olds of both towns significantly decreased... following the cessation of water fluoridation." Not only did decay rates remain stable during an 11-month fluoridation break in Durham, NC, between September, 1990, and August, 1991 but dental fluorosis declined in children born during that period, according to the Journal of Dental Research (4) In British Columbia, Canada, "the prevalence of caries decreased over time in the fluoridation-ended community while remaining unchanged in the fluoridated community," reported in Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology. (5) In 1973, the Dutch town of Tiel stopped fluoridation. Researchers counted drilled, missing, and filled tooth surfaces (DMFS) of Tiel’s 15-year olds, then collected identical data from never-fluoridated Culemborg. DMFS initially increased in Tiel then dipped to 11% of baseline from 1968/69 to 1987/88 while never-fluoridated Culemborg’s 15-year-olds had 72% less cavities over the same period, reports Caries Research. (6) A recently released government report out of Canada (7) shows similar negative results and offers a reason. Fluoridation was launched in the 1940’s when dentists believed fluoride’s beneficial effects were achieved internally, through the bloodstream then absorbed inside the teeth. The Canadians report that "this effect is likely to be minor... The evidence for a post-eruptive (topical) effect,... is much stronger." Therefore, swallowing fluoride doesn’t reduce tooth decay but does cause dental fluorosis - white spotted, yellow or brown stained and sometimes pitted teeth. According to the ADA’s website "Dental decay can be expected to increase if water fluoridation in a community is discontinued for one year or more, even if topical products such as fluoride toothpaste and fluoride rinses are widely used." http://www.ada.org/public/topics/fluoride/facts-benefit.html#5 "Well, science proves the ADA is wrong about the claimed benefits of water fluoridation and they are wrong about the safety of water fluoridation, too" says lawyer Beeber, President, New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation. "Studies have linked fluoridation chemicals to increased blood lead levels, neurological defects, brittle bones, thyroid cancer and more," says Beeber. "It’s time for the media to challenge the science that supports water fluoridation and present the truth to the public. We’ve made it easy for the media to access the medline abstracts via the links below. No more excuses." Other US government studies and statistics support the findings of these six studies and the Canadian government report. For example, children in fluoridated-since-1945 Newburgh, New York, have no less tooth decay but significantly more dental fluorosis than children from never-fluoridated Kingston, New York, according to Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology June 1999. Hawaii and California, the least fluoridated US cities (13.0% and 15.7%, respectively) also produce residents least likely to be toothless, according to the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Yet Kentucky and West Virginia, 100% and 82.1% fluoridated, have the most toothless residents. Guest guest
News Release Another news release about poisons (arsenic, lead and Easley). Send it anywhere you want as it is, change the contact information if you'd like and/or put Beeber's words in your own mouths (or change them). We had to keep this to 500 words. So we took out some "the's" and made other short-cuts. I think your local environmental and child advocacy groups should get this as well as local newspapers and legislators. If you want to see a pretty copy, go to http://www.prnewswire.com and type in "fluoridation" DENTISTS UNKNOWINGLY ENDORSE ARSENIC AND LEAD INTO OUR DRINKING WATER Without residents’ consent, dentists in little towns, big cities and some states convince trusting legislators to add fluoride, claimed to reduce tooth decay, into water supplies. However, the fluoride treatment chemicals used are contaminated with lead, arsenic and other toxic industrial by-products. According to the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), the only three chemicals certified for fluoridation are: Hydrofluosilicic or Fluosilicic acid, Sodium Fluoride, and Sodium Silicofluoride (1) "...the most common contaminant detected in these products is Arsenic...," reports NSF. "The other significant contaminant found...is Lead," they report. "All of the fluoride chemicals used in the U.S. for water fluoridation, sodium fluoride, sodium fluorosilicate, and fluorosilicic acid, are byproducts of the phosphate fertilizer industry" wrote Tom Reeves, National Fluoridation Engineer, U.S. Centers for Disease Control CDC). "Arsenic...had an average of 0.43... parts per billion (ppb) in the drinking water attributable to the fluoride chemical," he reports.(2) Also, CDC’s "Water Fluoridation A Manual for Engineers and Technicians," (Reprinted 1991) reads, "sodium silicofluoride is widely used as a chemical for water fluoridation. As with most silicofluorides, it is generally obtained as a by product from the manufacture of phosphorus fertilizers." (page 15) But dentists don’t seem to know or admit this. In a newspaper interview, American Dental Association fluoridation spokesman, Easley, DDS, who promotes fluoridation via his National Center for Fluoridation Policy and Research website at the University of Buffalo, NY, was quoted as saying, "... there are the contrived arguments that claim fluoride ... is a chemical pollutant, a toxic byproduct... There is no scientific basis for any of these claims." (3) "It’s shameful for dentists to endanger the public and mislead the media," says lawyer, Beeber, President, New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation. The American Water Works Association is worried about arsenic-contaminated fluoride chemicals. If arsenic’s maximum contaminant level is reduced to 5 ppb, "90 percent of the arsenic that would be contributed by treatment chemicals is attributable to fluoride addition," according to their journal, "Opflow." "We understand the considerable expense it takes for communities to remove naturally occurring arsenic from water supplies; but it is unconscionable that water engineers are allowed to purposely add lead- and arsenic-contaminated fluoride into water supplies without consumers’ knowledge or informed consent, at the urging of misinformed dentists," says Beeber. Arsenic in drinking water causes bladder, lung and skin cancer, and may cause kidney and liver cancer. Lead poisoning can cause learning disabilities, behavioral problems, and at high levels, seizures, coma and even death. Some experts say safe levels for arsenic or lead don’t exist. Arsenic levels as high as 1.66 ppb have been found in hydrofluosilicic treated drinking water (1), which, according to the National Academy of Sciences, is a cancer risk (4). 1)http://www.fluoridealert.org/NSF-letter.pdf 2)http://www.fluoridealert.org/ifin-230.htm 3)http://www.buffalo.edu/reporter/vol30/vol30n17/n5.html 4)http://www.nrdc.org/water/drinking/arsenic/chap1.asp Contact: Beeber, NYS Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation, 516-433-8882, nyscof@..., http://www.orgsites.com/ny/nyscof Connett, Ph.D., Professor of Chemistry, St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY, 315-379-9200,ggvideo@... (3) "It’s shameful for dentists to endanger the public and mislead the media," says lawyer, Beeber, President, New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation. Guest guest
Aethlon Medical Announces Data Supported Strategy to Increase Hepatitis-C (HCV) Cure Rates SAN DIEGO, March 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aethlon Medical, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: AEMD) today announced clinical data that supports the advancement of the Aethlon Hemopurifier® as an adjunct therapy to increase Hepatitis-C (HCV) cure rates. The Hemopurifier® is a first-in-class medical device that assists the immune response in combating infectious disease through real-time therapeutic filtration of infectious viruses and immunosuppressive proteins. In HCV care, the device inhibits viral replication through selective elimination of HCV in circulation and assists to preserve immune cells by removing toxic proteins shed from the surface of HCV. Aethlon disclosed that data resulting from over 20 HCV treatments indicates an average viral load reduction of 41% during each four-hour Hemopurifier® treatment. In the studies, average pre-treatment viral load of 22,868,000 HCV virus copies/ml blood (cpm) was reduced on average by 9,300,000 cpm during the course of each treatment. Based on this data, Aethlon predicts that short-term continuous Hemopurifier® treatment can reduce viral load to low to undetectable levels, thus improving the likelihood that HCV patients achieve a sustained virological response (SVR) from the current interferon-ribavirin standard of care and other candidate therapies. HCV infection is considered cured when SVR extends beyond six months. At present, less than 50% of HCV patients respond to interferon-ribavirin therapy. Additionally, there is a direct correlation between low viral load at onset of interferon-ribavirin therapy and increased cure rates. Based on data analyzed from each four-hour Hemopurifier® treatment, Aethlon projects that a patient with a high viral load of 7 million iu/ml would be reduced to undetectable HCV levels after approximately three days of continuous Hemopurifier® treatment. This corresponds to a 4.06 log reduction or an 11,000-fold decrease in viral load. An HCV patient with a moderate viral load of 2 million iu/ml would be projected to reach undetectable levels in approximately 2.5 days of continuous treatment. All of the studies were conducted in highly health compromised HCV infected patients who suffer from end-stage renal disease (ESRD) requiring regular kidney dialysis treatment. In these treatment studies, the Hemopurifier® inhibited the progression of HCV infection in ESRD patients when included during dialysis treatment administered thrice weekly for four-hours. The studies were conducted at the Fortis Hospital in Delhi, India. About Hepatitis-C Virus HCV is a leading cause of chronic liver disease and liver transplants. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that nearly 180 million people worldwide, or approximately 3% of the world's population, are infected with HCV. 130 million of these individuals are chronic HCV carriers who are at increased risk of developing liver cirrhosis or liver cancer, approximately 15 million of whom are in the United States, Europe and Japan. The CDC has reported that almost four million people in the United States have been infected with HCV, of whom 2.7 million were chronically infected. Approximately 2.6%, or 71,000, of these HCV patients are treated each year. Although chronic HCV infection varies greatly in its course and outcomes, 70% of chronically infected patients develop some form of chronic liver disease, including, in some cases, cirrhosis or liver cancer. In the United States, the current standard of care for the treatment of HCV is a combination of pegylated interferon and a nucleoside analog named ribavirin. According to WHO, treatment with interferon in combination with ribavirin is effective in 30% to 50% of patients, while interferon alone is effective in approximately 10% to 20% of patients. In HCV genotypes 1a and 1b, which account for over 70% of HCV infections in the US, less than 50% of these patients respond to standard therapy consisting of pegylated interferon plus ribavirin. In addition, these therapies have serious side effects that include fatigue, bone marrow suppression, anemia and neuropsychiatric effects. As a result of the limited benefits and serious side effects of existing therapies, significant value is placed on promising antiviral strategies to fight HCV. The Aethlon Hemopurifier® is positioned to improve the benefit of the current interferon-ribavirin standard of care, as well as other candidate HCV drug therapies demonstrating promise in clinical studies. About Aethlon Medical Aethlon Medical creates diagnostic and therapeutic filtration devices to improve the health of individuals afflicted with infectious disease and cancer. Aethlon's lead product, the Hemopurifier®, is a first-in-class artificial adjunct to the immune system proven to capture infectious viruses and immunosuppressive particles from the human circulatory system. The device targets to inhibit disease progression of Hepatitis-C Virus (HCV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and serves as a broad-spectrum treatment countermeasure against bioterror and emerging pandemic threats. The Hemopurifier® also holds promise in cancer care, as research studies verify the Hemopurifier® effectively captures immunosuppressive exosomes that are secreted by tumors to kill-off immune cells. At present, over sixty-five (65) Hemopurifier® treatments (representing approximately 260 hours of treatment time) have been conducted in multi-site studies at the Apollo Hospital, Fortis Hospital, and Sigma New-Life Hospital in India. The studies enrolled end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients infected with either HCV or HIV. In addition to establishing treatment safety, robust viral load reductions have been reported in both HCV and HIV infected individuals. Research studies have also demonstrated the Hemopurifier® is effective in capturing a broad-spectrum of viruses untreatable with drug therapy, including several of world's deadliest bioterror and pandemic threats. These include: Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF), Lassa hemorrhagic fever (LHF), H5N1 avian influenza (Bird Flu), the reconstructed 1918 influenza virus (r1918), West Nile virus (WNV), and Vaccinia and Monkeypox (MPV), which both serve as models for human smallpox infection. The studies were conducted with the assistance of researchers representing: The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID); The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); The National Institute of Virology (NIV); The Battelle Biomedical Research Center (BBRC); and The Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research (SFBR). Beyond therapeutic market opportunities, Aethlon is leveraging principles underlying the Hemopurifier® technology platform to establish a pipeline of clinical and research diagnostic products and services.
