Well now, I do indeed believe we all should contribute " The Truth " in

response to this show. I will also copy Rosie O'Donnell, Montel &

Oprah Winfrey with my message!

Thanks for the Info, Lany,

Subject: Livid With Anger! Re: Ricki Lake Show 12-28-00

>Dear Ladies,

>Tonight, as I was writing a letter to answer a lady's questions about

>her poor health due to her breast implants, I was flipping through the

>TV channels, as I usually do while online, and I came across The Ricki

>Lake Show. I seldom ever watch her show because her topics are usually

>quite shallow: " I was a Nerd in Highschool...Look at me Now!, " " You're

>the Father of my Baby and I'll Prove it, " and and other subjects that

>usually appeal to a younger age group which is exactly why I am so upset

>right now.

>

>The title to her show today was, " I Hate the Size of My Breasts. " It

>was an update from a previous program and was showing results from the

>augmentation surgeries of some very young girls...I would guess in their

>late teens to very early twenties. Her guest speaker was Dr. Alan

>Engler, plastic surgeon and author of the book, " Body Sculpture. "

>The show sickened me. Here I was writing to a lady who was terrified

>about losing her health from the effects of her breast implants, and

>Ricki Lake was praising the wonderful work Dr. Engler had done by

>implantng these young girls with the very same kind of implants.

>

>She made statements such as:

>(To one of the young girls who had augmentation surgery:) " WOW!, you

>look so FANTASTIC, NOW!! Do you notice guys looking at you differently

>now? "

>

>When a female audience member asked the panel why they would have an

>unnecessary surgery since they had augmentation for cosmetic reasons,

>and not to replace a lost breast, Ricki Lake interjected: " They had it

>done for the same reasons someone would wear braces or have a mole

>removed. "

>

>When another audience member asked the panel if they were concerned

>about the side-effects she had heard of, like infection...one of the

>girls on the panel, said she was a little concerned about getting a

>leak, Ricki interrupted and said, let's ask the doctor what he

>thinks....and, the doctor said: " rupture or leaks these days is VERY

>RARE. It was more common THIRTY years ago, but now is a very rare

>occurrence. If they were to leak or rupture, the saline water would

>simply be absorbed by the body and an new implant would be used as a

>replacement. "

>No mention of algae, mold, fungi, bacteria, or toxic chemicals.

>Absolutely no mention was made of any of the health risks involved,

>either.

>

>When one mother saw her daughter's results after her augmentation for

>the first time...she jumped up and hugged her daughter, saying, " oh, you

>look so wonderful. " She was choked up and was crying with happiness.

>Obviously, she was very pleased with her daughter's new ample bustline.

>

>What really got to me was when Ricki Lake plugged the doctor's book, and

>told him: " What a great line of work you're in! You can sleep well at

>night, because you've done a great thing for these girls. I nearly

>choked.

>

>They showed an augmentation surgery being performed on one of the girls

>on the panel by Dr. Engler, with the breasts blurred by the camera.

>When Ricki asked the young girl how the surgery was, the girl told her

>that she had no regrets at all, she had researched breast implants, and

>was completely pleased with her results. She told the audience that

>they surgery was a very easy process and she only required a Tylenol

>afterward...she said she was vomiting after the surgery, and Ricki

>quickly said, " oh, that was just from the anesthesia, right? " The girl

>shook her head in agreement.

>

>I could not believe that this show was being aired in this day and age

>after all of the adverse reports that have been made from women who have

>had implants, and with all of the work all of us have done trying to get

>the truth out over the past several years. It appalled me that the show

>had such a positive attitude about breast implants. I could not count

>all of the wonderful adjectives that were used to describe them.

>Absolutely nothing negative was brought up, and when the audience

>members did mention a few things, Ricki quickly defended the implants.

>

>I thought that this surely had to be a rerun from several years ago, but

>when I went to her site: www.ricki.com I found that it was, indeed,

>today's show. I felt both discouraged and angry at the same time. I

>felt that all the hours I have spent trying to educate other ladies, and

>all of the letters I have written about the horrors of implants had done

>nothing and that it was going to be impossible to ever get the truth out

>to the public, especially when shows like this continue to

>air...especially ones aimed at a younger viewing audience. I felt like

>giving up...for a second. Then, I got angry, and realized I had to

>fight this, too. That's why I am writing to all of you. We need to

>write to her show and let her know how she has made a poisonous, toxic

>medical device seem very appealing and safe to her viewers, and that she

>is now responsible for the girls/women who will now be implanted from

>being swayed by all of her bragging and gushing about how beautiful the

>girls looked now that they had implants. I guess they weren't beautiful

>before they had their breasts enlarged.

>

>I watched for her advertisers, but I had only caught the last half of

>the show, and there were some of those lusty " call me " phone girls

>advertising phone sex. I didn't catch any major advertisers, but I will

>next time, and plan to boycott their products. I'm sure my meager

>boycott will not even be noticed, but if everyone boycotted them and let

>the show and advertisers know this, it would make them take notice...if

>enough of us did it. We can't just remain silent about programs like

>this...just like with Stossel and all of the others, we have to let them

>know that they are just as guilty of murder as the manufacturers and

>plastic surgeons if they continue to support this type of programming.

>

>We should insist that they produce programs that tell what has happened

>to us (and our children), reveal the truths we know, like the chemical

>composition of the gel and shells, and the diseases caused from breast

>implants be aired in all fairness to the women of their viewing audience

>who are being influenced by their programs.

>

>Ricki Lake's web site has a place on it entitled: " Give a shout to the

>show, " where you can write to the show and tell her (or her producers)

>what you think of their programs. I think everyone should write to her

>and let her know just what implants do to the human body and that her

>programming should be aimed at the dangers of implants...not how

>wonderful they are...if she is truly trying to do a service to her

>viewers. I seriously doubt she is because it's all about money, and I

>guess our reality is not a money-making proposition...especially when it

>comes to her advertisers that support her show.

>

>Here is part of what the link from today's show said:

>UPDATE: I HATE MY BREAST SIZE! YOU SAY YOU'LL LEAVE ME IF I HAVE SURGERY

>. . . WELL, THERE'S THE DOOR!

>On today's instant update, the breast augmentations are unveiled. For

>those women who went through with the surgery, we'll find out whether or

>not their mates are out looking for new dates. Ricki gets the low down

>on how the post-op girls feel about their new images.

>Watch a clip of this show!

>Select speed: 56K | 100K | 300K

>

>www.ricki.com Look for the small-printed box, " Give a shout to the

>show, " and give them a SHOUT!

>

>Some of us were just talking about contacting everyone we could think of

>and blasting the airwaves with our stories and with the truth in an

>effort to receive the justice we deserve and to protect future implant

>candidates from becoming the manufacturers' and plastic surgeons' prey.

>

>Dr. Alan Engler, who Ricki Lake could not praise enough, has a web site,

>too. It's

>www.bodysculpture.com . I think he could use a few letters from us,

>too.

>

>I'm going to write a generic letter that summarizes what has happened to

>me and how I feel about implants and send it to every single address I

>can find in an effort to do what good I can, no matter how little of a

>difference it may make. If we all do this, just maybe, we might be able

>to make a difference. If we continue to remain silent, or start

> " slacking " and turning a deaf ear to these programs...they are going to

>further convince more of the public and members of the medical community

>that implants are fantastic looking, appealing, and completely safe with

>virtually no complications or side-effects.

>

>Please include The Ricki Lake Show when you send out your letters. And,

> isn't any better!!

>

>I would really love to hear what all of you think about this and whether

>or not you agree with me. Please let me know.

>Do you think we have a chance of defeating them at all? Do you think

>our voices will be heard? Or, are we up against something so much

>larger than we are that we don't stand a chance of making a difference?

>

>I must close, as I still have many more ladies to write, updates that

>need to be made to my web site, and lots of research to do. And,

>somewhere in there I have to try to get some rest.

>

>I love you all dearly and hope you are staying warm and avoiding

>flare-ups in this cold weather.

>

>I look forward to hearing your opinions about this and whether or not

>you think we should start another letter-writing campaign.

>

>God bless each of you,
