Guest guest
I had one about 3 years ago. They are not a picnic as the doctor must keep you awake so you can give input as to what is hurting. And when they push the dye into the bad discs, it does hurt as they are trying to recreate the pain. You will probably be mildly sedated during the procedure, then get good pain meds afterwards. Which I disagree with as while they are pushing dye into the suspected discs, they can see which ones have collapsed or are abnormal by the way the dye goes in, or not goes in, whatever the case may be...they don't need me telling them, so I would rather be totally knocked out. When I was first told I would be having a discogram, I also went to the email boards and asked what it was like. And most responses were that " it was uncomfortable " . Afterwards, people told me it hurt like hell but were afraid to sat anything. I would rather have known the truth at the begining so I could prepare for it. Finding the truth in the middle of an OR room as the pain cut thru the Versed and Valium sedation was not a good time to know the truth. Of course, at the same time, I heard the doctor tell the intern " This is how we find out who the fakers are " and that did not help my disposition either. I got lots of morphine afterwards. I don't know if I just had a bad doctor and experience or if that is the norm...but I do know that there are more people who did not like it then those that thought it was uncomfortable. Regardless, I refuse to go back to my previous surgeon for allowing it to happen, and also his demeaning attitude. maddy643 <maddy643@...> wrote: Hello, I just got back from my doc and I am scheduled to have a dicogram done next week. Has anyone had one and what should I expect. I am a little nervous. Is there any advice anyone can give me. Guest guest
I have a friend who had one in annapolis, md and said it wasn't bad at all. I really think it depends on two things: the doctor/facility and whether the disc is bad (and how bad) Vivian Harkness wrote: >I had one about 3 years ago.
